CITIZEN PLANET | How Mandera green revolution is giving residents the much needed relief

- A tree planting project started by the county government of Mandera nearly 8 years ago in Mandera Municipality has completely changed the landscape in the area, giving residents much needed relief in a place that receives little or no rainfall. These efforts that have also helped combat the effects of climate change are due to the dedication of over 1000 women who care for and nurture these trees. And as Jamila Mohamed now reports, these efforts are getting international recognition as the Mandera Greening Programme is a finalist at the World Green City Awards organised by the International Association of Horticultural Producers, AIPH.
This is great. Keep it up the people of Mandera. Remember this only you can make your home better. No one else.
With trees comes water and with water comes farming and prosperity

This is so beautiful.
Mandera is making a good progress and we can clearly see a bright future ahead for them with this collective work they're doing. We can make everything out of nothing and yes we can.

Amazing mashaallah, welldone Mandera County.
Best news piece yet!
Imagine if more counties in asal regions did the same and increased coverage. We would improve the local climate and definitely the much needed food production.
True
Good job 👏👏 nothing like a dry area. A place is what you make it # Grass is greener where you water it most 👌
Finally something beautiful from north eastern
This such a noble project something that speaks towards placing more resources to devolved units. The ministry in charge of water resources should pick this and ensure funds flow to the northern counties to ensure we green Kenya. In fact the place to undertake massive afforestation should be these counties but that means the Ministry of environment needs to step up support in research for tree varieties that can thrive well and are fast growing, plus in consultation with the local counties development of water pans for ease of water harvesting and use for the afforestation program. The Carbon credits cash should be channeled here.
Beautiful women, God bless them
Thats is my Town and thanks to the womens who nature our trees

GREAT AND SUCCESS STORY FOR THE PEOPLE OF MANDERA AND KENYA AT LARGE
CONGRATULATION THE COUNTY GVT OF MANDERA
This is great.
Great initiative! I hope that it would be possible for them to get funding through biodiversity credits, if they get to be established. In this way, they can put more resources and then, they can make some parts of the green area to be a park, which can be rented to someone who can create a children's park where the income can be used for long-term self funding/sustainability. Or they can create a new park and convert it into an ecotourism facility for sustainability.

Our Northern Counties are competing for survival with a region that produced 3 president. The Economy Mt. Kenya boasts of is a result of selective government policy that favoured them. 1Man 1KM, 1Sh
Equalization funds need to be increased as we undertake One Man One shilling, you should understand areas like Central Kenya have benefited in infrastructure development for years when other area's were left out. Now there need is other issues but we cannot have one and others left out
Kiambu county uses it's budget for sipends to elderly and sick in hospitals because everything was developed be devolution. While has no sewage service for 50 plus years of independence.Rigi G has to understand the difference.
Now add fruit trees.
