How to make a volcano - fun science experiment

  • The kids enjoyed doing this fun science experiment and I'll admit so did I :)! We experimented a few times with different proportions to yield different "lava" texture and speed at which it flows out from the volcano.
    The "lava" forms as a result of a chemical reaction between the baking soda and the vinegar. Carbon dioxide gas is produced through the reaction which is also present in real volcanoes. How it works is when the carbon dioxide gas is produced, pressured builds up inside the container, until the gas bubbles (which is assisted by the dish washing detergent) get pushed out from the "volcano".
