I remember Joe Pyne from this interview, that I watched in the early 70's. Joe's transgression was not letting his guest expand on his thoughts, and as a host trying to play up the absurdity of his guest. Joe couldn't have done better because he didn't understand the assignment. Also, sadly and quite depressingly Anton had another mainstream interview later on. He looked miserable and defeated. I believe he actually took what he did seriously and his followers did what they wanted, making a mockery out of him and crushing his spirit. I can only imagine how many children suffered, I believe Anton's son did, vaguely remember him talking about his father, and not in a good way.

The Joe Pyne show was all about how well his guests ( all with non-mainstream beliefs) could stand up to the ridicule of Pyne and his audience. I saw many of the shows, but never saw the one with LaVey. LaVey gets and A-plus, and makes Pyne look like the jerk he was.

I'm not a Satanist but the Satanic Bible (which is about honesty, hedonism and individuality) is well worth a read as LaVey was a highly perceptive man who, more than anything, understood the true nature of man. This is the first time I've ever seen LaVey and to me he came over as a very pleasant and intelligent man.

Personally I do not use electrical lighting at home and on my Satanic Altar or in the studio when I record vocals, only black candles as electrical lighting drives away the spirits and I love having them near me. People who see Satanism from the Christian view point are not treating these powers with respect and that is very dangerous. I once actually summoned a spirit in order to prove they are real to a girl who doubted and Satan came. My wife will not look in our mirror in fear something will come out.
In Satanism you are your own God. LaVey felt and I agree that we are all individuals born with different needs and views and so he felt everyone should make up their own mind about what to believe in spiritually if anything at all which is why he left a huge void in the Satanic Bible when it came to spirituality or any kind of religious beliefs and so within the Satanic Philosophy a person can still be a Christian if that fulfills their spiritual needs. Satan also means the Opposite, Inverted, Reversed which is why we wear the Satanic crosses and pentagrams. Satan means the opposite of religion. Satanism is living out your feelings and instincts without feeling it is a sin, enjoy yourself while you are here now while you can and have your own individual beliefs. One thing I consider almost mandatory though is believing there are powers around us. And you can use these powers to help yourself or those you care about. Or throw these powers at people in a negative way. I am not religious at all but you can say I am spiritual due to my experiences and beliefs. The Satanic bible is not really a bible because a bible is for religion so it should be called a book of philosophy instead. Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law.
When people see the word ‘Satan’ they see only negative. Satan is not only bad, to me. It represents both sides of everything. I don’t believe in the Christian devil.

If you actually read the Church of Satan's manifesto/ propaganda/ whatever you want to call it, you can see that most of the idealism that it lends itself to creates more of a 'tongue in cheek' title. They don't really believe in a God, and that any devout theist is essentially worshipping the idea of humanity by projecting themselves onto a higher being. This ignorant interviewer (the legend that he is) ultimately projects the opposite view onto this cornered interviewee, and doesn't even give him a fair chance to explain himself. I'm not a satanist, nor do I follow a religion, as I am a true agnostic, refusing to believe in any form of theism, (anthropocentric or spiritual) but in terms of all things informative, entertaining, or even just for the sake of it, this is poor form. Shame on you Joe Pyne.
I'm a Christian personally, but as a human being observing human beings, the interviewer was kind of a dick to Anton on the air. No matter what you believe in, respect is respect.
