When a patient has no pulse, no breathing, and shows a flat line on the ECG monitor, asystole is present. CPR needs to be initiated first. Asystole is not a shockable rhythm and treatment for Asystole involves high quality CPR, airway management, IV or IO therapy, and medication therapy which is 1mg epinephrine 1:10,000 every 3-5 minutes rapid IV or IO push. Remember, CPR should not be stopped for the delivery of medications. Unless there are special circumstances like hypothermia or drug overdose, prolonged resuscitative efforts beyond 20 minutes are usually unnecessary and futile. The team leader may consider stopping resuscitation if ETCo2 is less than 10 after 20 minutes of high quality CPR and all treatments have been exhausted.

Can asystole cause permanent damage to the heart in any way after the person is brought back? If so, does this always happen or does it depend on the circumstances?

Yes,, mainly it ,vl cause Neurological damage,, seizure, and paralysis,, Bcz ,Asystole is most fatal form of cardiac arrest,, bcz in Aystole,, Heart stop pumping at all, and survival rate of Asystole is less than 2 %, if he survivr also neurological damage is orphan

@@udaybiradar357 yeah from my understanding it mainly pertains to the fact that there is literally 0 electrical activity if any in the heart that pertains to attempts to perfuse. from my understanding, it would be pretty damaging to your nervous system.

This is wrong. Asystole is a non-shockable rhythm therefore, no attempts at defibrillation should be made. Defibrillation would actually make it harder to restart the heart. There is absolutely no electrical activity in the heart so delivering a shock is a waste of time. Simply continue with uninterrupted CPR and administer medications and ventilation simultaneously.

I don't think the video mentions that asystole should be shocked? but merely that the rhythm should be monitored with all hands off before knowing it is asystole just in case there is something shockable
