- This is a video of my 1971 Jeep CJ5 that was for sale. It has undergone an extensive restoration and is practically a BRAND NEW 43 year old Jeep.
This 1971 Jeep CJ5 is an excellent example of the instantly recognizable American classic. Although it is not in stock trim, the complete frame off restoration completed in 2012 was well thought out in design and execution. This is a practically BRAND NEW 43 year old Jeep. Every component is new or rebuilt. This was one of the last units built by Kaiser Jeep Corporation in 1970 just before AMC’s purchase in January 1971.

I put a 383 stroker in my 87 yj
That sound is unique to the Odd Fire 3.7L from 65 - 71. It is not due to the firing order as this guy said, it is due to the 90 degree configuration with only three crank journals at 120 degree spacing. this leaves two cylinders firing out of place making the unique sound.
Some time ago I owned 1985 cj 7 I put a 400 hp amc 401 and GM turbo hydra madic in it very good combinatiom

What is the backspacing and offset of your rims? I have a narrow trac cj7 and need rims that don't make the tires rub.
Sorry, but I sold his Jeep three years ago and I do not have the wheel specs anymore.

The original purpose of this video was for the sale of this Jeep. I sold it just last month.
I've always wondered if sellers really get what their asking for it.. My other question is how do guys part with these beautiful rides. Do guys just build them to sell or just get tired of them.
Thanks for watching, Jay. We didn't quite get what we were asking for this Jeep, but we were able to break even. Doing the majority of the work yourself has benefits.
It sort of breaks your heart to put so much time and effort into something and then send it off to some stranger on the other side of the country; but it's not all bad. We kept it for a couple of years and really enjoyed it. We used it often and shared it with people who could appreciate it.
I have my old Mustang from high school to work on for now. My father and I have also been making top secret plans for our next project together... That will start in 2018.
+Brian Haase , Oh man I feel your pain, but as you said, you got to have a lot of fun with it before letting it go. You mentioned Mustang, that was my first love. I had a 70' & a 69' Mach one in my day. What memories I have of them. A nice classic jeep is now on my bucket list LOL.

Check out the CJ2a/3a market. Way better buy in than CJ5/7.
Added bonus you get the Jeep design that won a world war instead of a bloated imposter.

Thanks! This Jeep had 15" x 12.5" polished aluminum wheels with 35" BFG Mud Terrain T/A KM2 tires.
Think I'd go with 4.56 gears for a 35" tire.
We wanted to use it as a street cruiser and with the 3-speed box, it made more sense to use 3.73 gears to match what was already in the swapped wide-track front axle.

Frame has been stretched
I can promise you that it has not been stretched. Wouldn't make any sense with a stock body CJ5 anyways...

Not going to do another Jeep for a while. I've been working on a 1926 Chevrolet and a 1968 Mustang.

This CJ5 is fitted with the original Dana Spicer T14A 3-speed manual transmission.
In 1966, Jeep started putting the automatic TH400 in the pickup trucks and SUVs, but not the CJ.
