محرم اسلامی کیلنڈر کا پہلا مہینہ ہے۔ یہ سال کے چار مقدس مہینوں میں سے ایک ہے جب جنگ پر پابندی ہے۔ یہ صفر کے مہینے سے پہلے ہے۔ دسویں محرم کو عاشورہ کے نام سے جانا جاتا ہے، جو اسلام میں یادگاری کا ایک اہم دن ہے۔
محرم کے نویں دن، جسے طاسع بھی کہا جاتا ہے، یزید کی فوجوں نے امام حسین کے ساتھیوں کے خیموں کا محاصرہ کیا۔ عاشورہ کے دن ایک سخت معرکہ یا نبارد ہوا جس میں امام حسین اور ان کے ساتھیوں کو ناحق شہید کر دیا گیا۔

یوم عاشورہ 10 محرم الحرام کو منایا جاتا ہے جو اسلامی سال کے افضل ترین دنوں میں سے ایک ہے۔
یوم عاشورہ وہ دن ہے جس میں کربلا کی جنگ میں امام حسین علیہ السلام کی شہادت ہوئی۔
یہ اس وقت کی یاد بھی مناتی ہے جب حضرت موسیٰ (ع) اور بنی اسرائیل کو اللہ تعالیٰ نے فرعون اور اس کے لشکر سے آزاد کرایا تھا۔
9ویں محرم عاشورہ کے دن کا ایک اضافی مستحب روزہ ہے، جبکہ 11ویں محرم ایک ایسا دن ہے جس میں اگر کوئی 9ویں کا روزہ چھوڑ دے تو اضافی مستحب روزہ رکھ سکتا ہے۔
