      Agreed.
Having high IQ is no bad thing in itself but it guarantees nothing in life. You still need other mental skills, as well as the drive to succeed. Of course, different people have different perceptions on what defines success.

As he said himself, it's not about your level of intelligence but about how you apply it. Working as a barrister, you need to make sure everything is 100% correct before you proceed at every single point. If he wasn't so worried about being right, his score would have been higher. This is affected by his life experience and how he views being correct far more than being quick.

He doesn't... he just went far too slowly.
I did a very similar test as a child and scored in the 130s and am nowhere near as smart as him.
Had he rushed it, he'd have scored much higher. He probably got every answer correct, but because he answered so few, it took his score down massively, probably only answering 60% of the questions.
The test I did was by a child psychologist which had 5 stages:
A similar word test, a similar block pattern test, a very basic time strict maths test, a words test and a children's level general knowledge test. Granted it was definitely for children so may have been much easier, but the patterns that I saw did look very similar, even after over 20 years

I don't think Shaun really has an IQ of 96. It'll be at least 120. At the very least. He's just played the game completely wrong.

I literally adore Shaun, he was supposed to be the panto villain when it started and over the years his personality has shone through, he's such a consummate gentleman, never has a tantrum, keeps his private life private, always congratulates the other teams, on this trip he was always so good with helping Anne, didn't get upset when he was outdone by the child.
This is the moment for me though, told he has a below average IQ because he would not do things how they wanted him to, they pester him to speed up and he just won't and when they say 'fine in that case you have below average IQ' he just shrugs it off and says I guess so then.

That's a bit of an odd takeaway from this considering Shaun's job is literally to run a case so obviously you'd pick him?? Literally everyone would choose Shaun even without knowing any of the Chaser's IQs. It's like saying "Who would you want on your team in a football penalty shootout, Lionel Messi or Michael Jordan?" - one of them is incredibly experienced in that specific thing, but it doesn't change the fact that the other is one of the best basketball players of all time.

    • @brontewcat

@@xonaclan7317 That is precisely the point I was making. In most jobs you do not need to be a genius. You do not need a genius in court, just a trained lawyer who knows her or his stuff and is prepared to put the work in. So Shaun’s approach makes him successful, and he doesn’t need to be a genius.

its kinda as he said as well, hes far from dumb, not even slightly deserving of being dubbed unintelligent, but hes a perfectionist, he works slowly to make sure he gets things absolutely right, and usually the idea of high iq or gifted is being able to get things right quickly, hes an insanely hard worker and insanely smart, just not "gifted" per se

    • @hoixthegreat8359
      @hoixthegreat8359 5 місяців тому +4

Part of the test is the time pressure. I'm also not convinced that Shaun could not have done the problems faster, he was just more concerned with being 100% on them.

Anyone who watches the chase knows that Shaun's issue is that he is very slow when it comes to answering questions. He was always very knowledgeable, that was never an issue.
It is not shocking at all to me he would rate low on a test where accuracy and speed are almost just equally important.
96 IQ with his knowledge and what he has achieved would be insane.
