I just didn't like how the school nurse gave you a cough medicine right away without asking the school doctor. Nurses in the US can not prescribe medicines even over-the-counter medications. School nurses can only give medications that's already prescribed by the doctor. That being said, the student bring his medication to the nurse to dispense it for him or the family brings in the medication to the nurse's office. Also, I would prefer to see and hear that all the staff at SMEAG are also conversant with the English language and not just the teachers so they are able to interact with the stufents as well. Provide them with the same language acquisition training for them to serve the students well.
Juvet Dakay You don’t need any prescriptions for over the counter medicines here in New York. Maybe in your state. But yes you are right nurses are not licensed to give any kind of prescription.
Theres a lot of over the counter medicines here thats illegal in other countries to buy without doctor's prescription. Cough med, fever, pain reliever, some antibiotics and some sleeping pills etc
@@bertlacatan1620I agree that cough medicines are over-the- counter (OTC) and do not a prescription when it is for personal use. In California, if its a minor, the family has to bring the medicine and give it to the school nurse. In his case, as a foreign student, he has no family around, maybe he consented from the start. In the clinical setting, all OTCs are prescribed by primary care practitioner before it is dispensed.
