  • To solve the world’s biggest environmental challenges, first you need the tools to understand them
The University of British Columbia’s Master of Geomatics for Environmental Management (MGEM) is an accelerated, 9-month, course-based master’s program that provides essential training in the use and application of geospatial tools used to plan, develop, manage, and evaluate programs to protect and regulate natural habitats and renewable natural resources.
    Why choose MGEM?
The use of geospatial data, tools, and technologies is crucial for making informed decisions that impact environmental management. This interdisciplinary professional degree program blends landscape ecology training and quantitative spatial skills development to prepare graduates to tackle pressing environmental issues across multiple sectors.
    What will you learn?
As an MGEM student, you will spend 9 months studying full-time on UBC’s Vancouver campus, beginning with a 1-week welcome retreat. The program’s curriculum is a mix of theory and hands-on experience.

      Hello Eugene,
      Thank you for your question.
Absolutely, MGEM is designed for students without prior programming knowledge and will help you build career-ready programming skills. You do not need to be proficient in programming languages prior to applying. Throughout the MGEM program you will learn coding.
