Burning Sands takes you on a raw, voyeuristic journey of fraternity pledging through the eyes of one favored pledgee, who is torn between honoring a code of silence or standing up against the intensifying violence of underground hazing. Led by a breakthrough performance by Trevor Jackson, director Gerard McMurray's feature directorial debut brings an emotional honesty to the classic tale of "rites of passage" and the complicated bonds of brotherhood.
Burning Sands, which also stars Alfre Woodard, Steve Harris, Tosin Cole, DeRon Horton and Moonlight's Trevante Rhodes, was written by Christine Berg and Gerard McMurray and produced by Stephanie Allain, Jason Michael Berman, Reginald Hudlin and Mel Jones. I just saw this movie on Netflix... and its truly heartbreaking to see what so many young men and women have to endure just to belong to a frat or soro😔... Even though people dont want to admit it, but this stuff happens a lot. i know of people who have been branded, &have tattoos just to show allegiance to those frats and soros. Many college campuses have made hazing illegal but it still takes place....PARENTAL WARNING: Viewer Discretion is Advised.. it is filled with lewd cursing, sex scenes, acts of torture, and the use of the n word throughout

I pledged a graduate chapter (if that makes a difference) and my experience was dignified and sacred. My Sorors frowned upon hazing and reminded us several times throughout the process that we would not have to endure hazing.

People on here getting caught up in saying that's not how the process is are not the brightest. The thing is they weren't making the movie to show the pledging process. They were more trying to overly sensationalize the possibility because of the kid at FAMU. As someone from the greek life I saw a lot of flaws in the movie but for awareness purposes its okay. I'm not here to help GDIs gain insight but one of the craziest things that stuck out to me was there's no way in hell pledges could attend any party if they weren't there to work.

Shame. The thumbnail made it look like it was some vampire movie, maybe taking place in some arid and desert landscape. Burning Sands would be the name, because it would take place in a post-apocalyptic future where the vampire genome has destroyed the world. Instead of zombies, it would be an infestation of super fast vampires that overrun the free world. While a lone group of survivors roam around a deeply deserted landscape, looking for a cure to the disease. Being rumored that it takes origin somewhere where they are investigating, alluding to maybe ancient temples and some dark plague.
Dead Egyptian kings were secretly vampires, and scientists tried to clone them in a lab and they found out too late. When one escaped and started infecting people, the virus spread all across the globe. As these lone survivors plan to venture deep into the catacombs of the pyramid to find the cure, to find the solution to this deadly disease somewhere. After some research emerges that the pyramid is much deeper than anticipated, at least several miles deep. There they find other creatures, and an entire mystery and unfolds to them as they find technology, and evidence of an entire extraterrestrial civilization that built the pyramids. That took over humanity before they died from being overthrown. Hollywood is out of ideas.
It's funny , Alphas and Q's asked me to join without pledging so many times when I was in college. The only reason I didn't because I was a Loner and a contrarian.

Decent movie, however,,never climaxed for me...The "message" ,if it was to proclaim "don t give up under pressure", was clear at the half way point. Personally, I would focus more on physical/psychological endurance and take direct violence of the menu.I am perhaps biased since I feel the concept of "fraternities" promotes an elitist outlook...which is one of the main problems the world culture is dealing with. Still, as I said at the top..decent movie...kept my attention!

wow, I remember college. black frats are rough. the injuries. all so they can get laid. then the visiting brothers come into town and wreck even more havoc. it was strange to witness because considering black history it would seem like you would want the academic environment to be free of black on black violence. It wasn't just hazing, it got ugly. 10 on a line and after it was done 1 left for a a few of them. hope its not like that now. I know this movie won't cover the real brutality that goes on.....oh and the female black frats weren't any nice to each other.

The movie was too dark and not enough lighting to see what really was happening and it was brutal.. Overall I would give it a 5 but because of how dark the movie was I will give it a 3.. need more lighting to see all that happen.. you had to go by sound to figure out what was going on.

Dylan Jones Fraternities and Sororities are private organizations it's not like some breakfast club afterschool bs. This is why when some people graduate college they have the world at their hands because they have their frat brothers and sorority sisters of so many generations in all kinds of industries who open up many doors for them.
So the saying "It's not what you know, it's who" is true then. You don't need a sorority or fraternity for this, it already happens. I'm sure you get some minor advantage over others if your clan is in positions at places you apply for and definitely if they are the bosses.. but other networking communities do the same and they don't have to go through all that bullshit of becoming a brother or sister. Hell in Canada if you are good at hockey and the place that you apply to knows this, they'll get you in. Even if you are the dumbest human being to have ever lived, if you can play hockey you get the job.

What's with all these hazing movies coming out. Who wants to watch people be humiliated beaten and took through the ringer. Just looks to intense for me but to each his or her own.
I seen a hazing a couple of years ago when I use go around the fraternity. It's brutal but they do make miracles true and I'm talking about a line of over 150 beautiful girls to a fraternity of 6 dudes. girls of all race and model fitness. So if your fresh out of high school and never had that popularity status of having brothers for life that can help you make the world bend at your feet, then you probably wouldn't mind the hazing. But it Doesn't mean it's going to be easy.
