@@invisibleman4827 Savile was an out and out monster. However in his warped narcissistic mind he likely genuinely believed wholeheartedly that his charity work DID somehow atone for his sins. I agree. From what I've read about sex offenders in general, and Savile in particular, it would seem that they have no regrets for what they have done, and invariably blame their victims. Savile seemed to be totally unrepentant about his behaviour, and for whatever legacy he might leave behind him.

Please, please BBC let us in Australia see this show. I always find it amusing that the forgiving of sins in the Catholic Church is so easy. A few Hail Marys and they’re gone. Its so convenient for criminals.
Because salvation is through grace. You cannot earn Heaven as no human can even approach perfection. That being said, I’ve been told a priest has the option of refusing forgiveness until they confess to law enforcement if the offense is serious enough.
I'm not Catholic, but the Church does not consider itself a court. Traditionally, Christians do not oppose worldly punishments, but that not why you go to confession. Confession is an act of coming clean before God. Not before worldly authorities. If you are on a criminal or sexual rampage, pastoral care will usually include to turn yourself in or seek some sort of help for your situation. But primarily, the kind of penance a priest will give you has some sort of goal to bring you back into a state of repentance before God. The penance itself isn't what redeems you, because God redeems by grace. You can't "earn" it. Clerical discipline in the Roman Church has suffered a lot, so penances from what I gather aren't what they used to be, but in Orthodox Churches, sexual immorality or continuous abusive behavior will have you excluded from communion for a certain period of time, or until you show signs of repentance. Note that nobody forces you to go to confession. Everybody who turns up does so because he wants to come clean.
The 1000s of priest that raped little boys and that's reported it is most likely 10000s priest, got a pope that hides these pedos at the Vatican. All that
@@VahanNisanian "And Atheists are never capable of child molestation?" Yes. Because if artists don’t humanise these “monsters” people will continue to assume only “monsters” not men are capable of these acts and people in power will continue to get away with it because the truth seems too theatrical to be true.

Catechism of the catholic church calls for works based salvation and is what I think you've mistaken for the Bible The actual Bible condemns all sexual immorality (sex outside marriage) and urges repentance and for people to flee from it (1 Corninthians 6:18). It also said those who continue to sin having known God would be subject to judgment and eternal condemnation (Hebrews 10:26-27) Saville might have used his faith to balance and justify his behavior but he didn't obey the Bible clearly, and while he escaped justice on earth I can guarantee that he got served eternal justice when he died
This has to be artistic licence for the sake of drama. NO WAY would Savile engage in confession. He would have considered it beneath him.
