    I'm a game dev and I'm not sure if the public is ready for what a prototype is like. This might be a shit show on the reaction front, especially since it's replacing ranked. I hope anet is ready for a lot of malding and can sift through it without getting discouraged. It seems like a great idea for a mode and I want to see it happen.

    I fully agree on the map not being one straight line. it could use a choke point like a tunnel, and the push object shouldn't be floating. it should be an obstructive object along the ground.

    I imagine they want to make sure people are interested before they invest time into developing it, hence they're releasing the test version in a bare-bones way for now.

    "gently introducing the mechanics and strategies of Conquest": if beginners are still grouped against skilled PvPers, their introduction will definitely NOT be "gentle" lol. And they still won't learn much if they are obliterated in seconds like with any other mode.

    The problem is people want a new gamemode as an alternative, not to be an in-between season mode. Conquest shouldn't still be the only sPvP main per season (specially with how bad the matchmaking is and the lack of maps), we should have 3v3/2v2 AND conquest, not just one or the other and hopefully new modes as well in rotation, but not JUST conquest.

      That's a lot of game modes to split the already tiny PvP player base. Unranked, Ranked, and a seasonal mode is probably the limit if players don't want que times that last longer than matches.

    This is kinda unprecedented btw. I have never seen a game release a feature that's still in ALPHA to their players. Even a PTR is testing beta features. I'm very worried about this.

    Yay for a new mode.
    Nay for it to be a 'learning curve' into understanding Conquest. Conquest isn't really.. hard to learn? And somethings you just can't teach or 'get someone used to' learning by using something like this as it takes away what you're supposed to be learning. Ideally you'd just want a Conquest map with A.I and tutorial mode for the player to get whats going on. Separate and away.
    A new map still won't solve the exhausting issues of MMR that was thoughtfully listed in Muk's previous PvP vid. Unfortunately it feels like they're afraid to touch the old code and trying to add a bandaid mode and hope people play it more regardless. I got no hate for them, I appreciate the team effort, but one day they're going to need to get into that sghetti with a big fork and a lotta parmasean and get it done.

    Good approach. Given past efforts, it makes a lot more sense to put in 50 hours for a "barebones prototype" beta than 500 hours for a "hopefully no bugs and everyone says it is perfect" beta.

    I can understand them wanting to test the concept before putting too many man-hours into the project. If players fundamentally hate the idea of a cart push game mode, then it's best for them to find out now rather than spend 6 months developing it.

    It's definitely a very early release, but I can see their reasoning. pVp is very complex set of items to balance, and there's a certain amount of intertia with development. It's hard to change later on, so by getting player feedback in early, they can change early.

    I agree that this probably doesn't really fix things that keep players out of PvP (or at least doesn't fix things that keep me out of PvP). I think a simple option for that would be just 1v1 deathmatch: No chance to ruin someone else's experience, no chance for someone else to ruin your experience, easier matchmaking, and it provides a no-frills environment to just figure out how combat works against a player instead of an NPC.

      I see where you're coming from, but a 1v1 mode would instantly be be dominated by unkillable bunkers stalling those matches to eternity (or until the timer runs out, whatever happens then). You can deal with those by outnumbering or outright ignoring them in conquest and to an extent even in deathmatch, but if it's just a duel all you will learn is that you're in a matchup that you probably won't ever win.

    Another thought: They say that this is a way to ease people into the more complex aspects of conquest mode. But they also say that it would be for new and experienced players. So an experienced player is going to go into a much simpler game mode? What would be their motivation except pwning noobs. Not the sort of gamers I would want to be doing the outreach to player timid to enter full conquest mode.

    Ok.. now commenting after seeing the video. I would do so theres 2 extra capture points in the map. And pve fodder in between (like leage jungle) the payload moves acording the ammount of players near it, each player giving a +1 to the move speed of the payload and capping at +2 (enemy team counts as -1 again capping at -2) the 2 extra contest points will simply count as an extra player near the payload BUT if a team has both points it will prevent the payload to move against them.
    what do you think?

    It would be pretty cool that instead of pausing the payload if there are enemies on the circle. The circle moved faster depending on the quantity of players.
    So that 5 players on circle no enemies = swiftness speed
    1 player no enemies = walking
    And the respective math (Example: 3 blues and 2 reds = walking speed advancing to blue favor)

      Not a great idea. Your suggestion would make it so tanky melee and supports is the only real choice. I think it's perfectly acceptable to have 1 or 2 inside the circle, and your ranged team mates work from a distance.

    the matchmaking is the problem in conquest,nothing else,and it s not because there is not enough players,it s cause the 50%winratio algorythm anet implemented few years ago to show a nice 50% winratiostats at esl,so what happens is the game ll put your gold1 ass vs plat players so you lose or put you with plat players so you win but you ll get insulted and trashtalked when making misstakes,so anet is not only responsible for the ridiculous and sad matches with 50-500 scores but also responsible for the toxicity those lower lv players ve to endure...fix the matchmaking and we don t need a new mode..

    I'm not sure about this. In my experience these types of "Push the objective" game modes suffer from the fact that people like to fight and pushing a slow cart or whatever it's going to be is boring and you end up alone at the objective while the rest of the lobby is off fighting in front of one of the spawns.

    With the amount of bugs in the game, it'd be interesting to see arenanet unleash their full buggy potential lmao.
    But no srsly, they probably shouldn't replace ranked with this... Make it a custom map you can pick in a private room, maybe, I dont think the public is ready for this sorta thing. Coz see, not everyone is gonna read this blog post and will be hella confused and angry, thinking this is the final product.

    But if we can’t earn ascended shards of glory or chest progression like I’m ranked…… No one’s gonna play it.

    My initial concerns are snowballing (and how respawns work) and downstates.
    Peepos dont cleave, we are going to see a lot of big team revives.

    Lmao talk about a bold move, but says a lot about the non-existent state of spvp to replace ranked entirely with an alpha map that is using grey boxes as textures. Any other live service game would never.
    Also you're so right about the lanes, this game loves to push content that favours ranged combat meanwhile not all ranged in classes is equal.

    Due to personal navigation techniques, I find getting around in Game maps very difficult. This map looks simple enough even for me. I don't know if the objective is interesting enough to attract active PvP players; I am doubtful. I do note that none of your concerns are at all being addressed with this. In fact, it seems likely that with far fewer places to hide, or cover, deaths will be even quicker and less satisfying.

    I don't like it being a single objective unless the payload moves even when both party are near it.. if not and its like overwatch where you can "contest" the payload as long as you are near it then why shouldnt everyone be as durable as posible making the payload impossible to move. Why not have the payload and also have different objectives to contest for points or to allow for comeback mechanics

    I want to go on record, I did not want this, I would have much prefered 10v10 GVG into the game, the game needs a middle ground, we got 5v5, 2v2, 3v3, and like 70 v 70 v 70, give us Guild Wars in Guild Wars 2.

    These developers dont fight enuff try hards in ranked pvp and it shows, they would probably be way more inclined to enact changes to builds that 1 shot if they were getting destroyed constantly like muk when he blinks and ends up insta dead

      You're referring to stronghold. But the npc was just an option to break down enemies gates, could also use skritt bombers. Main goal of stronghold was to defeat enemy lord.

    I don't know who would consider payload a more relaxed gamemode comoared to conquest since pretty much every payload usually ends in an endless teamfight around the single objective which is what I'd consider the most problematic with randon assortment of players and professions.

    Could be neat, but I'm kind of dreading it possibly turning in to Bunkers On Parade, where it's just ten players slap-fighting in the middle for fifteen minutes with the payload not moving an inch either way.

    Problem with pvp for me are all the elitists that GG's when they fail and blame the team. Even had someone going strait into afk after the team been .5 sec behind on the first cap. There needs to be hard punish for afk/trolling/rage.

    "Beta" is definitely a misnomer. Very annoying.
    edit @8:30 - I dunno if making the map more complicated would help anything. Unless I'm missing something, it's going to just be everyone piling into the center until one side thoroughly destroys the other so that they can move it. Maybe if they'd gone for TF2's Payload Race format (each side has their own payload and they have to get it to the other base first, but have to compromise between moving their payload and stopping the other team from moving THEIR payload).

      Terrain is going to be extremely important here to differentiate the fight over time.

      I agree payload race might have been a better move, but I can see why they wanted to avoid it if they wanted the focus to be on one objective. If they do stick with tug-of-war payload, or even try tf2-style linear 5CP, there are other lessons they could take from TF2 to make the gamemode avoid stalemates (forward spawns at checkpoints, synced respawn timers, etc)

    How can something that replaces "ranked" be casual? Isn't there a pvp game mode in one the festivals that we get once a year? If they're short on game resources why not just make that permanent. Anet's stupid. We don't need a new game mode half as much as they simply need to rework the pvp system. For instance pvp is one of the few places where account shared progress bites you in the ass.

    Also, can we get pay for testing this? Offloading QA department on the players is one thing, but recruiting them do basically be developers tinkering with internal alpha is next level. I get it that anet is trying to increase the speed of their "content" cadence by any means nessesary, but at this point it looks frankly embarrasing.

    I think the biggest mistake in this post is calling anything PvP "fun and casual". The doomer in me thinks this game mode will be very challenging to balance with other game modes.

    I think a lot of people having a hard time getting into pvp are f2p people and this game doesn't tell you at any moment even tho they say gear doesn't matter (not sure how true that is) elite specs sure as shit matter and can make it feel more p2w as a f2p person. As f2p you can't craft runes, sigils, and the other thing you put in gear so you have to max crafting but you can't buy 90% of the mats off the AH because 98% of it is locked to f2p people so most people jump into WvW with none of that dying in .2 sec or you can go spend almost a month maxing crafting and farming all the mats you need but even then you'll still get dumped on by elite spec people. This game just needs a face left they got 10 years of content that matters in some way spared over like 5 exp packs you have to drop over $100 on just to keep up with others on top of them trying to sell you bag space and other bs you should just get like it's some 2010 mobile game. It's 2024 get with the times fix some things up combined some things together to make it easier on people let f2p know what they're missing by trying to play f2p so you don't get all these people playing for 5 mins telling you pvp is bad then never coming back to the game even after updates like this. Pvp in this game is fun easy to understand easy to learn what spells look like and how to counter them but them leaving out how all these things you can get from the DLC's will make you better then anyone running a core build is what's getting them all the bad feed back and those same people are most likely not coming back. Why can't f2p buy runes and stuff off the AH to jump into WvW why keep f2p at a disadvantages in the hopes they buy dlc to be able to use those runes because they're sick of dying a lot. No just let people buy the damn runes so they can jump into WvW have a good time then buy dlc because they want a mount for WvW. This game creates a lot of problems for people just to sell them the answers when it shouldn't be like that. You have a good game just stop the petty things that push people to buy dlc and let them enjoy it more until they're ready to buy. This game really does feel like a mobile game from 2010 with all it's little dirty tricks. That stuff has really pushed me away and made me not want to buy dlc but it's a good game pvp is fun so I'm sticking it out until dlc goes on sale. But for so many others it just pushes them away to spend money on other games that don't feel like a mobile game.

      I really don't think it's important to cater to non-paid players in a competitive mode. I'm surprised they let non-paid play pvp at all.

      @@shimapanzer9930 If they didn't let f2p pvp you you'd be qing into the same 5 people all day long after waiting like 7+ hours a q lol pvp in this game is half dead and that's because of the paying people not wanting to do it. They don't have to cater to anyone just let people know how things are vs f2p and paid and stop running your game like some dated mobile game. Yes lets pay over $100 for all dlc just to learn you have to buy more bag space because we give you 100's of random things for taking 5 steps. f2p people still buy gems just because they don't have dlc doesn't mean they still don't spend money hell even I've spent like $20 in the shop so far and I have no dlc. If they gave f2p a mount I would have already spent 100's on mount skins but no they want to give you a mount for ten hours then take it away to push you to buy dlc.

    TF2 maps need to be looked at as there’s countless PL maps (steam workshop) unlike OW.
