Jingle Bells and Sleigh Ride are great winter songs, not just for Christmas! Check out Holiday Songs and Winter Adventures for wonderful January and Feb Songs!
Technically, this is a song about riding in a sleigh during the snowfall. It is usually categorized as a Christmas song, even though that isn't the intent.
You have all the power! You start by learning how to pass. No bells! just moving the right arm from touching your own left hand that is palm up on the left knee, to the person to the right - touching their left hand. Say "Me - You" to the beat. It takes practice with that until its to the beat and all can do it. Then introduce ONE bell and see if you can pass it all the way around the circle. This can be done to Jingle Bells, Sleigh Ride (Holiday Songs and Winter Adventures or Kids Can Listen Kids Can Move recordings). Then if one bell can make it all the way around to the beat, introduce more bells. Finally, try with a bell for everyone to pass! if it turn to chaos, just start putting it behind your back as it comes to you in the circle! So much power! :)
The size of the circle depends on the size of the class. I've had 10, I've had 36. It stays in control since you can cut down on how many bells you are using.

Can kindergarteners handle this? Or, even 1st and 2nd grades?
A colleague of mine said she did it with her 2nd grade-5th grade students.
