- "The uproar in the stadium was such that nobody could be heard at all."
An authentic, firsthand account of St. Polycarp’s martyrdom on February 22, 156.
Among other things, the account attests to the veneration of saintly relics by early Christians. The letter puts forth a clear defense of the veneration of saints as distinct from the worship rendered solely to God.
The account is as moving now as it was when the Christians at Smyrna first wrote it.

Almost brings me to tear every time I listen to this. St. Polycarp pray for us!
Amen.
Today is the memorial of St. Polycarp, martyr & bishop. Feb 23, 2024. St. Polycarp, pray for us.🙏❤️
It is amazing. Most of all how our Lord strengthened St.Polycarp, of course. Praise be to God, but also how much things remain the same despite so much time and changes otherwise occuring. The details also allow for a rather accurate and specific dating.
I also find it remarkable that not only did the Lord lead St.Polycarp to martyrdom in such a way as a model to shepherds and teachers in the Christ`s Church, but revealed St.Iraneus now a Doctor of the Church and also sent a vision to a man generations later to keep the account from being lost.
One can definitely see the Hand of God at work in this work. I sm certain there somewhere is some scholar who wrote up a report on how this is pious legend and embellished, but often such interpretations hinge on the assumption that the supernatural is not real. Obviously, challenging this presupposition changes the nature of what is plausible to be a true account. That said, there are embellishments clearly in some works, but these are discernable espescially if one knows God and uses reason or if needed, close scrutiny. This one, I trust its veracity, it shares many things with many accounts of martyrs, even in the modern day. We must always aim for the truth, for the love of He Who is Truth.
All that rambling said,
St.Polycarp, pray for us.
Praise and glory be all to God! Amen.
Lord Jesus, I trust in You. Amen.
Well said.
May the blood of the martrys descend upon us and grant us a blessing from our Lord and his holy Catholic Church✝️
Awesome
Amen
What books do you recommend for refuting atheism and non christian religions 😊
I don’t know of any particular books, but I listen to Catholic and Christian apologists on UA-cam, and they’ve taught me alot. If you’re interested, look up Sam Shamoun, Godlogic, Inspiring Philosophy, Nabeel Qureshi, Brother Rashid… there m’s so many learned people on UA-cam ❤
... and for refuting Protestantism. A whole branch of Christianity is heretical. American Evangelism is horrific heresy.
