Nice review, thanks Chappers for showing us the neck differences in the "neck off". There is quite a difference, and visually seeing this was very interesting. Thanks!
Bence Varga it does at least have reveal binding. …i just don't like the color of the pick guards or the lack of gold hardware. if they made this with the wine red finish and gold hardware, i'd buy it immediately.
not sure if anyone has already said this, but if the pickup starts buzzing when you pull the knob then it is a split not a tap. a tap makes a pickup lower output (by cutting into the coil about halfway) and a split actually eliminates one coil from the circuit, making it a single-coil. that's a basic explanation, but it's enough to tell you that this guitar has a split, not a tap
I love the maple neck on those 120th studios and the standards. The one your playing cap is the best in my opinion. My uncle has the same one. Rock on!!
That Satin Cherry LP will be mine oh yes. I thought only Zakk Wyldes LP had a maple neck, so now the studio is a ZW style Les Paul, but for the fraction of the cost!
as much as i love captain for playing fendery single coils when everyone else would play humbuckers which adds a great dynamic to the videos (and you playing a strat in your videos is helpful to me as i play a tele) man, that LP suits you!! you make it sound extra doomy and crunchy. cool stuff dude, well played! crack that thing out on some future vids!
Best studio ever, my ML-2 has warmed me to maple necks. I agree with Rob on the scratch plate and honestly in this video the Blackstar doesn't sound too great cranked... :/
hey guys when you showing the guitar sounds please put the sound in the center then split it for the jams. having it in mostly one ear is really annoying at times. keep up the good work
+embermarrow I've only seen the faded T and the Studio T models? Is that them or is the "T" a different version? I'm confused haha, I'm looking to buy my first Gibson soon too!
did you buy it? I am thinking about getting one in wine red. I am not sure yet, can you help me? lol. I am between the Epiphany Les Paul 1960 Tribute and the Gibson Les Paul Studio, both in wine red. Thanks
id personally go with the prs but that doesn't make the epiphone any less of a good guitar i just think for the value and quality the prs is great and you really cant tell much of a difference between the expensive models except the obvious differences. So pretty much i say good for the prs but make sure you look at it more to know you really like it and or go to a shop and play it
After reading your review I’d thought I’d tell you I have a Studio 2014 anniversary dessert burst. Still unsure tho if it’s a good guitar. Everyone seems to buy a standard not the studio’s and why? It’s a naked les Paul and it hasn’t got all the bells and whistles as they say and a lot of people are negative about the studio’s. Apparently doesn’t sound like the raw genuine les Paul sound I saw on other reviews. But surely that’s down to the pickups and slash doesn’t use stock pickups he uses Seymour Duncan pickups. Overall I think it’s a good guitar but wish someone could advice me on what to do as I am thinking of looking for a standard and trading in my studio. But price wish standards are through the roof. Should I keep the studio or trade off for a standard. Please can you or anyone advise me sensibly on what to do!!!!
Is there anyway you can bring back the Circadian Chronicle sort of idea you had this time last year? I learnt a lot from those videos and its a great way to get an insight into your preferred tones, guitars and your pedal board etc.
I wish gibson would make more guitars with a maple neck and maple fret board :( I know they did on a couple guitar guitars in AT LEAST 1975. maybe other years in the 70's idk. and they did a custom shop version recently with a maple board but I wish the could make one for like say $1000 in U.S. money. maybe like a studio maple or something like that maybe for a short run of say 1000 guitars or something idk I just know I want a les paul with a maple board haha love the videos guys keep up the great work! Cheers!
But I honestly plan on buying this guitar soon, in the Manhattan midnight color which is delicious, the pickups are wonderful, ive played one in my local geetar center and it was choice so im gonna have to snatch it up soon, because I lack les paul awesomeness in my arsenal
Have you played the Gibson B. B. King Lucille 65th anniversary guitar and the Gibson Les Paul Classic 7-string and the Gibson Les Paul Bill Kelliher "Halcyon" electric guitar, etc?
just got one of these in the mail. i have a question for those that already have one... are the volume/coil tap knobs kind of jiggle and loose feeling on yours? mine are. this is my first gibson with coil taps. my 30 year old sg has knobs that have to play or jiggle in them at all and have never been changed....
Are you skipping the new Les Paul Futura? It is priced between the Studio and the Studio Pro, and looks quite interesting -- P90 neck pickup, bridge humbucker, built-in 15 dB boost (via push-pull pot) Min-ETune, and some new (non-traditional) colors. www2.gibson.com/Products/Electric-Guitars/2014/Les-Paul-Futura.aspx
CooCooAwesome Then don't use it. Although I can't imagine why someone wouldn't like the automatic tuning. Even if for whatever reason you don't trust it to be accurate (it is though), there is nothing stopping you from only using it as a "starting point" and fine-tuning as needed, or not even using it at all.
The way I see it I can get a new 2013 Studio with a higher gloss finish, the same electronics, a proper color pick guard, a mahogany neck and a hard case. Why would I want the 2014? Certainly not for the 120th anniversary inlay.
Captain, I was watching the Epiphone Nighthawk review and in that video you have a tattoo sleeve on your right arm. That was the first time I noticed it so I can to this one and you don't have it. I would like some answers, because you're blowing my mind right now.
I know you guys have heard this a million times before but I am new guitar player and know very little about playing but know the sounds I like. I can't pick between the new epiphone les paul tribute plus and the 2014 gbson studio. I am also thinking about the blackstart ht-5r amp. What do you guys think or anyone else? I guess the biggest concern is the 490r/t vs the 57 classics. I grew up on motley crue, ozzy, ratt, Cinderella type music but love all kinds of music. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!
Hi Sean, I am having the same problem between those two guitars. Epiphany Les Paul 1960 Tribute ($699) vs. Gibson Les Paul Studio ($980) both in Wine Red Color. I was also thinking about the same Amp, I have 3 or 4 amps on my list. Tell me, which one did you buy?
I love watching these vids but I think you should try out all the guitars through the same amp people buy guitars and keep the amps we are comfortable with
"Mustardy", Captain? If you're changing diapers, you know what color it is. ;-) Also, I'd think it's a coil split -- I'd expect a coil tap to still be somewhat hum-cancelling?
Nice review, thanks Chappers for showing us the neck differences in the "neck off". There is quite a difference, and visually seeing this was very interesting. Thanks!
The official name for the scratchplate colour is "hearing-aid beige".
I love those camo pics!
They're a bitch to find though when you drop them in the woods.
i just want to tell you guy's that your doing a great job for us gear hounds and keep the demos coming
I just ordered a 2014 in Manhattan Blue! I can't wait!
love the john mayer jam towards the end. "I'm gonna find another you"
The Studio is my favorite new LP so far. I really like the unfinished maple neck. Damn you for making me want a Les Paul again!
I really miss the binding though, it looks so naked without it :c
Bence Varga it does at least have reveal binding. …i just don't like the color of the pick guards or the lack of gold hardware. if they made this with the wine red finish and gold hardware, i'd buy it immediately.
I realized that even on the Les Paul the maple neck sounds great
The new Gibson lp studio 2014 IS AMAZING specially in desertburst colour it rocks
WOW Captain. Nailed it.
Could imagine your solo in John Mayer's "I'm Gonna Find Another You". Amazing piece of solo.
love the jam at the end sounds like i need your love so bad
I'm enjoying your 2014 Les Paul reviews. Looking forward to the next one. Cheers.
not sure if anyone has already said this, but if the pickup starts buzzing when you pull the knob then it is a split not a tap. a tap makes a pickup lower output (by cutting into the coil about halfway) and a split actually eliminates one coil from the circuit, making it a single-coil. that's a basic explanation, but it's enough to tell you that this guitar has a split, not a tap
Awesome blues playing
Awesome blues improv Lee.
I love the maple neck on those 120th studios and the standards. The one your playing cap is the best in my opinion. My uncle has the same one. Rock on!!
That Satin Cherry LP will be mine oh yes.
I thought only Zakk Wyldes LP had a maple neck, so now the studio is a ZW style Les Paul, but for the fraction of the cost!
been waiting for this
In that last lead The Captain went into some very Claptonish territory. It was sweet
8:25 I love that bit onwards!
I hope you cover the new ESP 2014 line up. Esp did an amazing job, in my honest opinion.
This comes from a Gibson fanboy
Gibson Les Paul Studio > plus.google.com/115964035415115783223/posts/RjgQigLWEUo Save $819
What about the 2014 studio HOT ROD I just bought. Has full sized body and ceramic 500t and 496r pickups.
Will you do the SG line? I hope so. :D
You my friend, should read the description.. ;)
Haha sorry bout that
Hey captain, what a beautiful blues tone you get from that LP in the last song. I know that this video its old but is the first time that i listen.
Woah the captain playing slither i like it
I may have to treat myself to a new traditional now! They sound so much better with the new p'ups
as much as i love captain for playing fendery single coils when everyone else would play humbuckers which adds a great dynamic to the videos (and you playing a strat in your videos is helpful to me as i play a tele) man, that LP suits you!!
you make it sound extra doomy and crunchy. cool stuff dude, well played! crack that thing out on some future vids!
Best compromise is to get a Traditional (50's necked). I own 2 and have no regrets
I do agree!
Best studio ever, my ML-2 has warmed me to maple necks. I agree with Rob on the scratch plate and honestly in this video the Blackstar doesn't sound too great cranked... :/
i love the scratch plate color actually
Cappy......your Blues playing has really gotten tasteful Very Nice!
awesome stuff! thanks for all the hard work
Can you do the new Prs models to??
always was a fender man, but because of your video I ordered a les paul "studio"...by the way I enjoy all your videos...great job !
got mine...finally ,great guitar - although the edges of the frets are a little sharp
hey guys when you showing the guitar sounds please put the sound in the center then split it for the jams. having it in mostly one ear is really annoying at times. keep up the good work
Amazing you have these and my so cal GC probably never will!
love Gibson so much! and you chappers :D
Captain, I love your playing style! You should do some videos and give us some tips.
John Mayer's "I'm gonna find a better you" at the 8 min mark riff?
Need your love so bad - Fleetwood Mac
Never really liked the studios but, I can now say that is one awesome guitar
I agree with you Raphy, it looks and sound kinda descent.
The 2016 Studios just dropped - would LOVE to see a review from you guys! Trying to get my first gibson
+embermarrow I've only seen the faded T and the Studio T models? Is that them or is the "T" a different version? I'm confused haha, I'm looking to buy my first Gibson soon too!
+embermarrow Just bought my first Gibson, the 2014 Studio and it's a magical tone, the coil tapping give it some versatility.
+Simon Tripp congrats man! I've got my eye on the '50s tribute, almost there!!
Hopefully you get it, heard it's fantastic. 2016 models should have a '50 and '60 tribute I believe. Can't beat a '50's with the the replica pick-ups.
+embermarrow I have a studio 2010 and its great
captains one looks cool at the beginning
this vid was the decider for me buying this guitar... anyone else thinking of getting it i would extremely recommend it!
did you buy it? I am thinking about getting one in wine red. I am not sure yet, can you help me? lol. I am between the Epiphany Les Paul 1960 Tribute and the Gibson Les Paul Studio, both in wine red. Thanks

I got a 2013 LP Studio, that guitar has coil split to and a proper mahogany body.
I love the Gibsons. Great review!
Lee is getting pretty good on the guitar
Is there anyway you can bring back the Circadian Chronicle sort of idea you had this time last year? I learnt a lot from those videos and its a great way to get an insight into your preferred tones, guitars and your pedal board etc.
this was uploaded on my bday!!!!!!
First part of the first jam was very Peter Green - Need Your Love So Bad-esque
5:05 nice slither riff what effect did you use? is that a fuzz?
This is awesome :D
Your the best Rob and Lee!! \M/
Wish I had an accent like that, I live in Northern Minnesota. envious!! Lol
Cool Demo, would of liked to of seen Rob play the studio though!
Awesome vid, was wondering if you guys could do a review on the Ibanez AR 420? Not sure if you guys have done in yet.
I got this riff at 09:08 stuck in my head but I can't figure out what song it is from. Someone help me!
Have you played the Gibson B. B. King Lucille 65th anniversary guitar and the Gibson Les Paul Classic 7-string and the Gibson Les Paul Bill Kelliher "Halcyon" electric guitar, etc?
They always find a way to brings slash into their videos like in 5:09 he plays slither by velvet revolver
just got one of these in the mail. i have a question for those that already have one... are the volume/coil tap knobs kind of jiggle and loose feeling on yours? mine are. this is my first gibson with coil taps. my 30 year old sg has knobs that have to play or jiggle in them at all and have never been changed....
Does anyone know what song the Capt was playing at 9:07
ROCK ON
saw one of those at a guitar shop 500 flat, pickups were changed though lol
rob is da man, as is captn
luv my studio 2014 xD
What is that riff at 09:07?
If I get the studio would it be a good idea to replace the Stock pickups with Alnico Pro II's? Would the coil tap be affected?
Captain likes that David Gilmour solo style
Are you skipping the new Les Paul Futura? It is priced between the Studio and the Studio Pro, and looks quite interesting -- P90 neck pickup, bridge humbucker, built-in 15 dB boost (via push-pull pot) Min-ETune, and some new (non-traditional) colors.
www2.gibson.com/Products/Electric-Guitars/2014/Les-Paul-Futura.aspx
That's what I want to know.
Agreed!! The Futura looks really cool. I'm not vibing the MinETune stuff though.
9:16 what is that song??
Slither by velvet revolver! nice
What is the song at 9:08
Hey are you guys going to do the Recording model???
Got the Les Paul Studio recently... Immediately got rid of the scratchplate haha. It does look bad. Looks perfect without it.
Depends on the finish imo. Any traditional wood finish shouldn't have one
Can't believe I forgot the riff at 5:05
Any help?
The way I see it I can get a new 2013 Studio with a higher gloss finish, the same electronics, a proper color pick guard, a mahogany neck and a hard case. Why would I want the 2014? Certainly not for the 120th anniversary inlay.
OOMMGMGGGG AWESOMEEEEE
Captain, I was watching the Epiphone Nighthawk review and in that video you have a tattoo sleeve on your right arm. That was the first time I noticed it so I can to this one and you don't have it. I would like some answers, because you're blowing my mind right now.
Hi Guys, can you tell me what the red one is behind Rob???
Are you guys going to demo the new gibson SG range ? :)
will you do a review on the latest les paul recording?
You guys have got to review the futura.
I've been trying to decide between this one or the Epiphone Custom Pro. Any advice?
I know you guys have heard this a million times before but I am new guitar player and know very little about playing but know the sounds I like. I can't pick between the new epiphone les paul tribute plus and the 2014 gbson studio. I am also thinking about the blackstart ht-5r amp. What do you guys think or anyone else? ***** qc on the 15s are gonna be a bitch tho. I say get a 13 or 14. Which still suck on quality control but if u dont mind gambling go for it
Hi Sean, I am having the same problem between those two guitars. Epiphany Les Paul 1960 Tribute ($699) vs. Gibson Les Paul Studio ($980) both in Wine Red Color. I was also thinking about the same Amp, I have 3 or 4 amps on my list. Tell me, which one did you buy?
I bought the studio and Blackstar HT5R
nice! Would you recommend it? I've been doing a lot of research, and I am still undecided. its killing me! Which color did you pick?
studio all the way...played both a week ago walked out with a 2014 studio in ebony...loving it alot!!!...
Hello, can you tell me if is worth it to buy the studio pro vs those nie regular studio or the 2016 studio? thanks
If I do go to uni in surrey; I'd like to know where you get all this fruit from. There's always like. Strawberries or raspberries or.. Guava.
Need a more upbeat jam. The jazz-jam is a bit weary. Thanks for the videos...love em.
+Rob Chapman
"LEE! Would you like to try my camouflage plectrum?"
"Wheres it gone...?"
You guys. You guys.....
YEAH!
The headstock angle to the neck is...a lot... how does that affect things? (if indeed it does)
nice vid guys
Why no Victory amp head for that Victory cab? I like Marshall and all, but I like the Victory better.
They OK... but I think the LPJ is right there with these and beats them on value.
Weird, i was just playing the song slither before i watched this video and then captain lee played it!!
Speaking of humming p-90 pups. Why don't gibson install a "dummy coil" to cancel the p-90 hum??
Whats the name of the song at 5:10 i cant remember the name.
slither - velvet revolver.
Did you guys skip the Les Paul Futura for a reason?? Im re-watching the Gibson 2014 vids but see no mention of them.
7:33 "Made by Germans or something." LOL too funny xD
