I freeze dry my garlic scapes as well to make homemade garlic salt & garlic scape powder. I also made a garlic scape hummus that was out of this world delicious!!! They are good in stir fry’s too.
Even though I am not as large a gardener, you have given me ideas on how and what to do with garlic scrapes and herbs. How to kill off bugs as naturally as possible. And possible veggies to grow after garlic harvesting. I also have garlic chives that may work to freeze dry also. It's a long video but learned a LOT! Thank you.
Hey Bre :) pretty sure the main goal of blanching is to denature any living enzyme inside the veggie that would contribute to their decay in storage (typically in the freezer). Most green and root veggies need it, as opposed to onions and peppers that dont. Don’t know that its necessary before freeze-drying though, but I don’t have any experience with the freeze-dryer. Wouldnt micro-organisms be eliminated by the freeze drying process itself, if thats what you’re worried about?
I bought some “Great Lakes” lettuce today and the leaves are already quite big. Can I cut the bigger leaves off before I transplant them into a pot or should I transplant them first? I was going to cut them today then transplant them tomorrow. First time growing lettuce so I’m not sure.
loved the long video!!!! question for the garlic this is my first year growing it so I would love a video start to finish and how you know when it is ready to harvest and then how to dry it and store it. can you use garlic right away or does it need to cure first???
You can absolutely 💯 use garlic fresh from the garden, it's also my first year growing but I have watched like 100 garlic videos 😂 but the only reason for curing ANYTHING in the garden is for long term storage purposes 😊
What zone are you in? My garden isnt doing as well as i wished. This is my first year, & i am a little disappointed, however, like i said this my first year. Im trying my best to not be envious of others, but it's hard. Not sure what ive done, but some things seem stunted. It could be the loads of rain we've had. Your info on chickens is so helpful. My city may let us have chickens! Cant wait as surrounding areas allow chickens within their coty limits. Love your garden. Its beautiful
Im zone 7. Dont give up! Im in year 7 now. I honestly didn't feel comfortable with gardening until year 4. The first few years are challenging trying to learn and figure out routines. Ive had countless things over the years do terrible lol its all trial and error! YOU GOT IT!!
Love your videos!! Love how you explain all that you do and why. You are such a joy to watch and you get so excited over the progress. I have Irises but I’m having a problem right now with what they call Brown Blotch so I am treating them for that. Well thank you for sharing your garden with us, I really enjoy your videos. ❤
You garden Looks beautiful, what I see in your videos, your weather is crazy like mine and I think you do magic in your garden :). this year my weather got even crazier, and my plants stop growing .( raining almost everyday and temps at night getting back to lows 45`s) but not much I can do , some years are good other no so much.
Thank you! I experienced a year like that, the spring was terrible and nothing got going until june! So crazy how every year is so different from the next!
Been having the same issue with roley poleys eating my seedlings ☹️ barely have any zinnias this year. Sprinkling DE around the base of plants helps but you have to keep doing it because it washes away with the rain or watering. Had to do this with all my green bean seedlings this year as well.
Have garlic? Throw some out in your garden. As it warms up, it stinks, keeps a lot away. I’ve also had success using diced garlic and letting it ferment. Then I spray it on my plants. That REALLY stinks!
Your backyard is so pretty,so calming, I think I would just sit out there and relax, probably sleep! Everything looks great! Can't wait til fall and Christmas to see some of those herbs as gifts!
Are you saving those big garbage bags of chicken coop clean out til you have your new compost area set up? No need to throw those out- they’ll start the composting process in the bag!
My garlic just got harvested today! It seems so early!!! I had multiple that have cloves splitting off. Never had that before. Guess now I know. So crazy. I usually harvest garlic in June!
Thank you for sharing!!! Last year I was a week earlier than normal and this year may be even sooner! We had a warm start to the spring and never really fully cooled back down. Glad to know I havnt been the only one experiencing this!
Just a tip on the lilac placement. Don’t plant it ANYWHERE NEAR sewer or water lines. The roots will seek, find and destroy them. Our neighbor has a hedge of them near where our sewer line runs and it had caused major issues throughout the years we have lived there.
Hello, hi, I really liked your comment about planting of lilacs, so sorry about the damage you got but how does one know where there are water lines? Thank you❤
Typically this time of year Im almost filming daily. Filming everything keeps me on top of things as well, so its not hard to do both. Just a bit more time consuming at times.
Loved it no matter if it was long but I have many requests, please, can you tell us more of like when you removed the leads from lettuce the center part did u mean to say youll be replanting? And the liquid you were mixing, would have liked to know what it was and if its sprayed on roots n soil or tops of plants. And other stuff i needed or had questions...watched it 2 times😍
I really like your UA-cam channel, Bree👸🏼🥦🥬🥒🫑🌶🌽🥑🥕🍅👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏😍👌❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Is it Tap water is good for plants because of the chlorine and other toxic stuff inside ? Should you not have a rainwater tank, much better for plants ? And Hi from Paris, France 👋😍🇺🇸🇲🇫❤️
Thank you so much!! I actually have a filter for my hose that helps remove all of that! Rain water catching has been on my to do list for years, but the way Im wanting to do it is such a investment!
My husband and I were randomly talking about trying lettuce but we were both really unsure about it lol If you wanted a crunch I would think it wouldnt turn out, but otherwise I think it would do such fine! Maybe ill have to do a experiment!
Gm just stumble across ur video n I subscribe to ur channel....can u explain more about how u dry d sage n other herbs what d machine or equipment u use to dry step by step please..am from Caribbean
Hello bre I love your gardening and I garden too I growing some Lettuce as well . ❤ love the videos and I’ve liked every single one of your videos even the extra old ones 🎉 Wonderful garden and chicken ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Im going to try letting aome of my herbs go to seed so i can harvest my own aeeds! Just a thought for you. Are roly polys the same as grubs? Ive had to replant things twice, as young starts are getting eaten😢
I cant wait to have some land and some barn kitties!! My 2 cats are indoor, we live in a busy area and theres so many stray cats around I wouldn't trust them outside by themselves atm.
I planted them right at the surface where you can still feel them right under. Soil is barely covering if it is. The handful of videos I watched explained to do it that way vs deeper in the ground. Is that how you planted? Want to check since this is my first rodeo with iris! Appreciate the help!
This is a long one, but I hope you enjoy seeing a realistic week in my life in the garden!!
I love longer ones
we love and appreciate even longer ones more! there’s more to watch!
I noticed you put your lettuce in a glass dish with lid. If I use the towel, do you think plastic would work as well?
Yup! Should work just fine!
Herbs in the coop: Every once in a while I would trim some herbs and sprinkle them around the coop. Kept the air smelling fresh and flies away.
Why didn’t I think of that! Thanks for sharing, definitely doing this!!
Are there any herbs that are not good for them?
I love the long format videos and your joy in the harvest is wonderful to see.
Love to hear that! Thanks for watching!!
I freeze dry my garlic scapes as well to make homemade garlic salt & garlic scape powder. I also made a garlic scape hummus that was out of this world delicious!!! They are good in stir fry’s too.
Goodness such Goodness, would you mind sharing your how to's? Thank you and how fun to be learning so much❤❤❤
Herb salt is a fun gift! I can send you a recipe if you like :)
Thats a great idea!!! Ill have to do some of that! Thanks for the reminder on this!
@vietopia-san I just saw this video and your comment also, I too would love a shared copy of your herb salt if you please❤ Thank you ahead of time🎉
Oh my gosh, would you mind telling me the variety of romaine you planted? Mine never gets that big. 😳

Just found you!!! Where are you located? This is the first video I've seen. Can't wait to watch more. YOU are an inspiration!

Yes, everyone I watch who constantly uses the freeze dryer never blanch anything 😊 I would love to have a freeze dryer ❤
do you have a website? do you offer garden design?
Do you ever get mould growing in the inside of the wrapped Sage? OR do you dry it a bit before you wrap up the rolls?
I bought some “Great Lakes” lettuce today and the leaves are already quite big. Can I cut the bigger leaves off before I transplant them into a pot or should I transplant them first? I was going to cut them today then transplant them tomorrow. First time growing lettuce so I’m not sure.

I 💚 garlic scapes so much! But I've never tried them freeze dried. What sorts of dishes do you usually use them in?
tossed into stir fry, soup, mashed potatoes!
It’s remarkable how much you are accomplishing in your garden. You’re doing a great job!!
Did you get a new camera?! Something looks different! In a good way 😊
I didnt, but ill take it!!
The Garlic splitting is no good? Is it edible
Did you try your lime to control the rolls Polly’s as they are wood lice and you said the lime controls lice just a thought
It would probably work great! I honestly haven't thought of that until you mentioned it!
Your garden is blooming! I love all your gardening videos! ❤ Thank you so much for sharing it with us! ❤
Thanks for watching!!

Thank you so much!! Ill have to look up that issue with iris so im aware of what to look for!

Roley Poleys can be such a nuisance lol

I’ve also had success using diced garlic and letting it ferment. Then I spray it on my plants. That REALLY stinks!
This was my first year growing garlic. I picked about half of mine this weekend. I also had a few that split 😢
Your backyard is so pretty,so calming, I think I would just sit out there and relax, probably sleep! Everything looks great! Can't wait til fall and Christmas to see some of those herbs as gifts!
Thank you so much!
Hope all is well after all the crazy storms that keep coming through KS and OK ❤️
Yes! Thank you so much for checking!! We just missed some serious hail yet again. Idk how we keep dodging all these bullets lol
Use sulfur to get rid of Rolly polies
ty
Where did the chicken coop come from please? Also, how many chickens do you have in it? Thanks
I have 6 chickens, My husband built it without plans. So unfortunately I have nowhere I can send you for a resource!
am I... a rolly polly?
Are you saving those big garbage bags of chicken coop clean out til you have your new compost area set up?
No need to throw those out- they’ll start the composting process in the bag!
I have a few on hand! I haven’t saved them all.
If I close my eyes, you sound like Megan Fox lol!! Love your gardening videos! Thank you for sharing!
If ai may ask, which zone are you in?
kansas zone 7
First time I see your channel and l love your garden. It's beautiful and healthy. Love the way you take care of it. ♥️🧓😘
I’ve had chickens going on 3 years and my girls dig such deep holes 🫠 have you found having the sand run helps?
100% anytime I let them in their expanded space they make the biggest holes. Never had a issue with the sand in the run!
Next year, use your garlic scape to make a pesto; sooo delicious!
What microphone are you use Bre? I'm really struggling to get good audio. Especially the wind and surrounding sounds

Hello, hi, I really liked your comment about planting of lilacs, so sorry about the damage you got but how does one know where there are water lines? Thank you❤
How do you balance making content and keeping up with your garden? Do you save up/hold off, or are you constantly filming/gardening every day?
Typically this time of year Im almost filming daily. Filming everything keeps me on top of things as well, so its not hard to do both. Just a bit more time consuming at times.

New to your channel! Love! Forgive me, but what is that amazing contraption you are sliding trays into to preserve??? I NEED!!! ❤
It is a freeze dryer 😊
I believe that it's a harvest right brand, but I know she has a link in the description to the freeze dryer ❤, I desperately want one soooooo much 😊
I really like your UA-cam channel, Bree👸🏼🥦🥬🥒🫑🌶🌽🥑🥕🍅👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏😍👌❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Can you freeze dry your lettuce for use in casseroles etc. I don’t have a clue

This video is so educational-loved it! Thank you!
Catching worms and feeding them to the chickens is reasonable. How long did you have to grow the garlic to get it like that?
Right now all I’m growing is herbs since we really don’t like winter vegis. Nice herb haul!
I just got chickens and was excited to hear about the lime. I popped over and ordered some! Garden is looking great!💕🌻
Hope you enjoy it! Its helped me so much! Thanks for watching!
I’ve found that the stink of arugula keeps everything off
My spinach. Mix it in!
Thanks for the tip!! I’ll have to give that a try!
Hello bre

Bri; i enjoyed your video, just found you. you do have a nice garden, you've put a lot of work into it. thanks for sharing . see you in your next vid.
Does anyone know what she fertilized with at 39:56? Is it just a foliar feed, and is that the only fertilizer she uses? Thanks.
❤❤❤
New here and getting inspired by you! What state are you growing in?
Fun video! You need a cat in your garden to chase away the birds that eat your berries. Works wonders!
I cant wait to have some land and some barn kitties!! My 2 cats are indoor, we live in a busy area and theres so many stray cats around I wouldn't trust them outside by themselves atm.
Don't bury the tubers on the iris...just the roots. I learned the hard way.❤
I planted them right at the surface where you can still feel them right under. Soil is barely
covering if it is. The handful of videos I watched explained to do it that way vs deeper in the ground. Is that how you planted? Want to check since this is my first rodeo with iris! Appreciate the help!
Think of the tuber like a strawberry crown. Dont bury it keep it's face in the sun so it doesn't rot
Can you suggest another type of organic fertilizer for herb plants that's not the Neptunes fish.
You could always check out Dr. Earth Organics, they have all kinds of stuff. I’ve used it in the past.
@@itsbreellis Thanks alot.
You need a blueberry harvester for your chamomile
Yes I do! lol
Wow where did you learn all of your skills!
You inspired me to clean my boot strap trays and seed starters. I need to rehome all my old ones... ty
