One of the best stage performances of all time IMO. That is how you rock a joint! The only other peformance that comes close is Queen's Live Aid performance. Freddie Mercury was unbelievable in it.

I have watched this performance many times. I am always left with the impression that Prince is feeling like he is losing control of the situation or is, at least, uncomfortable with all these people invading his stage and the chaos that is taking place. He continues his performance, but he is being squeezed out of the space that he normally occupies. He gets up from the piano, jumps off the stage, and moves stage-right around the crowd, out in front and straining to communicate with his band using hand signals as to how they should proceed. He is also squeezed out of the spotlight. But he takes charge of how his performance is going to end, and not going to allow himself to be lost in the morass on stage. He moves stage left to find an open spot and removes his shirt to regain the attention of the cameras and his audience. He exits center stage like a victorious prizefighter, with Big Chick in tow. "Somebody radio that limo around the front and get me the hell up outta here!!" That's Rock 'n' Roll.
I get the opposite impression. He’s letting the world know….and the Grammy’s…..he’s a star. He turned the performance into a mini concert. Got the front row folks up on stage and dancing when usually they are mannequin stiff……came to the front to give the band the final cues…..moved stage left just to give himself more stepping space to leave the stage while everything is going on. Sort of I came. I saw. I conquered. Now deal with it. Lol😎💜🎼
