Super cool to see the corresponding Dusty Betty video as well. Everyone pushed themselves, I will NEVER get a KOM either. 60+ miles on a single speed, very inspirational and hard work. The organization and cooperation from the support vehicles was also impressive. Thanks for the great content.
Well done Steve and Betty. I really enjoy all your videos, but I especially enjoyed this one as its the reason why we have a bike in the first place. Getting out there in the beautiful world and pushing ourselves. Love to see more content like this as its beautiful part of the world that you live in. Keep up the good work.
I also tried Stages computers and experienced the same app issues. I was totally frustrated and ended up returning it and provided them with feedback. I was gifted a Garmin 830 and had it synced and working within 5 min. Great video!
Thank you, I feel extremely fortunate. Riding with someone you love is simply the best. She didn't mountain bike when we got married, but she loves it now. So there's hope out there for everyone else. Now our first world problems are agreeing on who gets to ride each day, since we both want to ride every day. With a toddler it's tough to find a babysitter, so we don't get to ride together as much as we'd like, so it's really special when we do get to ride together.
Ayyyy, nothing like a good all day ride on a single speed. I’ve loved pretty much all your content since I found your channel a few months back but I especially like anything single speed related! 🤘🏼
Content is sooo good!! Loved Tess video awhile back and this one too!!! Great mental toughness shown by everyone, set a goal, go for it and complete the goal!!! Single speed for the win 💪💪💪💪👍👍👍🤘🤘🤘🤘
Great job Tess! I know how Steve feels. When I ride with my wife on great trails I've done before that she hasn't, it takes on a whole new level of stoke. Congrats guys!
Great job you guys love it you did that on a Singlespeed 👊💪Dusty Betty is a beast my wife loved her effort and especially your reference to the chamois change😂😂the little things that matter. One day Steve we will ride Brother!!
Missed you out in St. George earlier, I was down with the "Rona". So pretty much stuck home watching your vids again. The BCT looks like a rad challenge!
Man this looks like blast. Tessa has gotten so much better since she started. Looks like we will be in Phoenix area next winter so this is on my to do list.
This is on my bucket list, but not on a singlespeed! Kudos to you bro! The Prescott NF is going to make another extension to the BCT from Cottonwood soon. When that is done, you could ride from Sedona to Cottonwood via Lime Kiln, Cottonwood to Phx via BCT. Could make for some epic and brutal long rides!
@@hardtailparty Its going to happen in phase 3 of the Blowout Wash Trail System. They have a conservation crew working on the system right now! The extension will be called Copper Chief Trail and is fosho gonna happen, which is huge for that area. Ill send you the map of it on your Instagram. And yeah that climb would be brutal
Great video! Would love to head west and ride this stuff. I recently converted my Honzo ST to single speed this past weekend. One ride in and it’s fun. Definitely not easy though. Especially on techy climbs.
Its been a while but spring is around the corner. The skis are packed away and the hardtail is in the shop. Soon enough i'll be killing myself working up my endurance all over again.
@@hardtailparty Only reason I know that for sure, well two, I have two girls and it was always awesome to get those little moments. They're 17 and 20 now, but every now and then I get some of those moments that bring back the memories of when they were little.
Great vid, I'd love to have some trails like that here in New England. You can piece together sections of single track, 'paper roads' etc... but you're going to be on and off of blacktop trying to connect them all together.
@@hardtailparty People have mapped routes that go top to bottom and side to side in NH and VT, but they use a lot of rail trails and gravel roads rather than single track. In NH we have class VI roads, in VT they are class IV roads, they are unmaintained town roads that are still rights of way but many are actually too rough to ride because they were cut straight along the fall line and they just become rivers when it rains. This summer I might try to make a couple of them near my home passable so I can string together a reasonable XC loop. We do have some nice trail networks that are maintained by the local clubs/chapters. Often they are on private land and not posted on sites like Trailforks, but they provide some great riding.
Beast-Mode Steve. I *just this weekend* rode from Emery-Henderson, north to do the Little Pan/Williams Mesa loop and back to EH on my SS; 33 miles. my legs were *blasted* when I was done. That's crazy strong work essentially doing that twice in one day.
I noticed you drinking the skunky river water. To improve it before filtering, see if you can dig a 'coyote well'. Basically, it's about a 5-6" diameter hole about the length of your forearm, about 3 feet from the edge of the stream. It takes 20 minutes, but it uses the sand and soil to filter the water that seeps into it. It makes a big difference.
Can you discuss ECCENTRIC BOTTOM BRACKETS? The nuances about them and the pros vs cons. I am an avid SSer but I have always used a sliding dropout. I am currently running a 2020 Giant XTC advanced+ with the sliding adjustable dropout. You should see about reviewing that.
I’m def getting this or the new nukeproof. I’m on a coin toss between the two and am new to mtn bike riding. I want a good do it all bike but this spot rock reminds me of my old haro when I was a teenager and me and my friends hit the gravel pits.
I think tou would benefit from by mike consultation service over on Patreon. This and the nukeproof are entirely different bikes and ride completely different from each other.
I remember getting to the top of that climb on my Remedy....I was so glad we were almost done. We had 10 riders in a group on that ride a couple years back. We only did the 35 mile ride. I was tired....60 is crazy on SS. That takes intestinal fortitude. I've only done a few tougher rides...Whiskey 50, Dawn to Dusk race The Prickley Pedal and the long slick rock loop in Moab when my legs were already smoked.
We got rained out of a Sedona trip (I live in the bay area) so we came down the mountain to do this point to point ride with support vehicles. It was epic! We finished in Black Rock City at the Saloon thing, I forget the name. Did you stop your ride there in Black Rock City? It looked like there was another loop that could be added to extend the ride.
Cody must be extra super fit, seeing as he'll hop over any little rise over such a long and tiring ride...lol Also, well done to Tess/DB. She slaughtered it.
Genuine awesome vibes on the video! I forgot but what is the clearance on the Spot? I take similar tires but in a wider model would be better on some of the chunk here?
Man, such an awesome video! makes me want to do a similar type of ride out here in California! Quick question on your tires - Heard you mentioned that you were running 2.3 tires... aren't those a bit narrow for a hardtail? I thought for hardtails, you want to be riding something a bit wider so you can run them at a lower psi and soften the ride a little bit. I'm running 2.8's on my hardtail, at 150lbs, I run them at 14 and 16 psi (front and back, with inserts), and find that they have great traction in dirt, but feel a bit bouncy going over rock gardens like the ones you ride on in Sedona. How do i get rid of that bouncy-ness, do I need to run my tires at even lower psi?
Stock fear ratio form Spot (i forgot the exact tooth profile, you can look it up). I walked 100 feet of it. The jagged section near black canyon city was too tough to ride.
I send 99% of these back to the companies after I review them. Patrons get to see behind the scene stuff though, where o showcase what bikes I have at a given time way before they hit UA-cam..
I ride this as a 50 mile loop from Rock Springs to the top of Antelope Creek and back down... I need to get a shuttle to the far north to do it in one day like this. The gravel section doing it as a loop is not very fun.
I’ve heard about single speed but don’t really know much about them. What would be the mountain bike gear setting equivalent of a single speed on a 3x drivetrain? 2x6 or 2x7?
Are you going to do a video on the GPS once you've had some time with it? Might be interesting to hear your thoughts on it. Anyway, this makes me want to do a longer ride. My longest so far is only 26 miles so I think I'll set a goal for a 40 mile ride this year.
For this challenge it was a demo bike for review, and i didn't have any extra cogs, so i had to run it in the stock config. Fortunately it turned out to be the perfect gear.
