Requiem: Avenging Angel is a first-person shooter developed by Cyclone Studios and published by 3DO and Ubisoft in April 1999. On April 14, 2016, it was re-released on GOG.com and in July 7, 2016 on Steam.
The game begins in the realm of Chaos, a limbo world between Heaven and Earth. Without the use of weapons, the player must resort to his angelic powers to defend himself. These angelic powers work similarly to the Force powers of Star Wars Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II. The game has a bullet time feature, slowing down time to allow the player to dodge bullets and kill multiple enemies.
The weaponry features many "stock" weapons found in other games, such as the pistol, the rocket launcher, and the railgun. One of the player's powers is to possess enemies. This allows access to various other weapons which cannot be used via the player character.
Like Half-Life, Requiem has no distinct levels, and instead places the player within a seamless interlinked world. The majority of the game is set in mid-21st century Earth, and thus many of the locations are stylised versions of everyday locales, including a bar, a hospital, and a power plant.

This game really deserved a remake
What remake im sick of remakes make new game idiots its called Requiem 2
Some of those levels remind me of Boneswork a VR game on Steam.
I'd be glad if it at least would get a Remaster.
That you could resurrect dead enemies and have them fight on your side is an unsurpassed bit of fun in first person shooters.
and that you can posses one, even the big ones, I loved to do that xD
I wanted to play this game when i was kid in mid 2000s, i had a magazine with the story of the game and the CD but the game woudn't work on the old yellow pc of my house so i ended playing Doom, Duke Nukem, Quake, Heretic, Witchaven, Alien and all the other FPS games, now i remembered about this game again and came to this video

The beginning of this game is legendary and is stuck in my memory forever.
I knew when I saw Scorn that I had seen something similar back in the day. That 1st fleshy level of Requiem was what Scorn reminded me of.
i know your comment is 3 years old but yes i had the same thought. it was literally a Requiem ripoff. had this game when i was around 12 years old or so my dad bought it for me. but the disc became damaged so i couldnt play it anymore. glad they finally put it on GOG.

Keep in mind this is a game from 1999 and there was, so called by todays standards, bullet time implemented. It is activated with a spell, but still a remarkable achievement.
I was quite shocked to find out that Max Payne was not the origin of this feature, which came out 2 years later in 2001.
A brilliant game and somehow it slipped under the radar and didn't get the deserved attention if you ask me.
Im 1999 I've been 19. And I still own this game. To be clear: I didn't bought it on GOG, I still own the game I bought back in 1999.
This game didn't get the recognition it deserved - I feel it was overshadowed by Quake 2, Half-Life and Unreal too much.
Requiem: Avenging Angel has a genuine creepy vibe to it and the divine powers were just awesome! I loved turning my enemies into salt! 😂

@@hater2764 I have played games my entire life, since I was 6 pretty much. This is the best FPS game ever made. Nothing beats the atmosphere, the grittiness and the weirdness of Requiem.
one of the best games in 1990s i played this then when i finished it i used god all weapons powers. i would fly around and be the true angel i was ment to be.

I finished the game, rock solid at 4K (Only 2 crashes fighting against Lilith, but after disabling the steam overlay in that fight everything was just perfect)"
just grabbed this gem off GOG for free, loving the Quake 2 engine vibes fact has ingame cutscene moments and spells i'm sold! 😀👍

GOG version works great for me. Just need to tweak the glide wrapper a bit. But that’s got a nice front end so no big problem. (Edited for spelling)

This game looks and plays so much like quake II...same boring brown colors...every corridor looks about the same and makes it frustrating af to find your way around...every opponent is deadeye dick and a bullet sponge...no wonder GOG has it up for free today 9-8-2023....if you're one of those die hard fan boys who find these low quality cash grabs fun better jump on over there and grab a copy of it:)
let me guess you are a Genz that never grew up with games like this. so you cry about it because its not 4K photo realistic graphics. you should learn to appreciate real games. not that crap you are being forced to play now. this game is from the 90s. back then we had way less options to create video games and way less options to make the game look more realistic or look better. its just what they had to deal with. but ofc people like you have to cry about it. Quake was one of the best selling games of 1997. that should tell you something. and now with the enhanced update you can get on Steam and GOG the game is even more popular. Why do you think indi developers go back to the old root of FPS games? because thats what people want and like. Simple basic shooters. Not that crap you Genz people are forced with. full of bugs and glitches
