One of the big Advantages that Tesla and BYD have in China is that the Swiss Consortium that owns the patent for LFP batteries for the past decade has allowed companies in China to utilize the patent royalty free, as long as the cars are manufactured in China for local consumption. That Patent ends in 2022, in Europe around Jan or Feb and in the United States around March or May (too lazy to look it up right now). At any rate, what this means is that Tesla can begin to utilize the LFP Chemistry in their 4680 cells very shortly in Europe and within just a few months in the USA. This will help them IMMENSELY in the ramp up of production in both the USA and Europe. Just like in China, they will be able to offer the SR Model Y which should help to dramatically increase sales in the USA. Byd ability to build factories and grow is so much easier than Tesla. I’m invested in both companies but Byd has less headwinds regarding growth due to the political structure in China
Yes. I am not agree 'people are not interesting PHEV' . The true is people would rather to wait at least 4 months in order to get the new BYD DM-i PHEV. The percentage car ownership in China is low, and the private garage/carpark space are even lower. Pure EV heavily rely on public charger. Pure EV will not replace PHEV until installing chargers on every street parking space. One thing this channel did not mention is that you cannot get a new register plate in major big cities of China unless it is new energy car. That means for first car buyers, buying the new energy car is the only one option.
I agree with you but I think people give Volkswagen too much credit. How can VW compete if it has partial government ownership, unions and a legacy dealership network? Also 95% of it's sales are not EV's. I'm not convinced that VW can survive without going through a bankruptcy/big restructuring over the next decade or two. In fact the CEO recently warned about potential massive layoffs in the future if they can't get EV's right. I would much rather own BYD/Tesla stock rather than VW.
Tesla stock is already at a level that is valued 10 years into the future. They have a steep cliff to climb in terms of batteries and electronics manufacture to catch up with BYD. They don't have product range. They don't build affordable cars. Tesla needs China whereas BYD doesn't need the USA to succeed. It's no contest, Tesla cannot catch up with BYD. The dependence on suppliers for Tesla will be its Achilles heel. Reselling solar cells, batteries for their energy segment cannot compete with OEM's.
Most of BYD's claims are just that. I would love to see some kind of in depth review first before taking anything on their specs seriously. The 1k+ km range is NEDC so more like 400-500 real world.
I have been 'name dropping' Electric Viking in comments in other videos. I get ENDLESS "Tesla" hype . The American market will absolutely eat up the NIO swap- off battery and swap-off stations... at $20 -30k for a Tesla equivalent (with slightly lower acceleration... 4.3 to 60) which is more than most people want. SWAP OFF BATTERIES: IMHO, The Viking should take a hard, cold look at the immensity of the United States auto market is still heavily "ICE". Look up the stats, they are astounding after a decade of EV hype. It is almost negligible right now...sure it is changing but the masses need a $20k NIO

Hi Sam, avid UK supporter of yours here :) ..........I cant help thinking that separating out the commercial aspects into a sub vlog, eg Stock, would make the main channel more palatable for those who support 'going green' and EVs. For us 'make the world a better place for all' folk, Stock varies between 'no interest (no pun intended!) and borderline offensive / divisive...... I for one am not looking to get rich off the back of converting the planet to renewables / non polluting power but only have interest in the Real benefits Ranging from personal / driving pleasure to more affordable & non polluting all types of transport & heating Yes, clearly I am aware that investment is a key element to this success, however as a non participant I would prefer not to be continually reminded of those profiteering from this wonderful global evolution that will go down in history as a key turning point for mankind You can accuse me of hypocrisy as in not wanting to be reminded that we kill animals in order to feed ourselves, by re-packing into more palatable forms such as burgers....however that is just the way we are - I dont need reminding that people are looking to get rich on the back of this evolution...as a consumer, it taints my interest and support for this noble venture. I would prefer that commerce be separated out from 'green endeavours' from a consumer prospective Just my humble opinion
BYD’s growth is impressive, but I don’t see Tesla as a car company. The most exciting thing for me is A(G)I. I have no idea what BYD is doing on that front. Since it is China based, it’s not easy to have serious insight into the company.
BYD sold 272k EVs up until November. 1.2 million are probably the total amount of passenger vehicles that they expect to sell. This doesn't mean it will be 1.2 million EVs
@@Sam_BS_Electric That's great information you're providing there, Paul. Here is a question for you. With the URGENT need to STOP emissions, will anything but BEVs put less or MORE ICEs on the roads (for the next 10 to 20 years for EVERY year they are produced)? THAT is what we are facing. Research.
the chip shortage is FUD, the OEMs use old. 28nm chips which are in short supply cos not one wants to invest in making them. BYD and TSLA use newer chips.... 16nm or below
It's the "$1" chips which were (are?) in short supply. Tesla simply didn't cancel their orders, so had a stockpile, then as some production came back, they were seen as the good customer and given (rightly) preferential treatment. Not to mention they are agile, anticipating and adapting before the problem. BYD? Make THEIR OWN chips.
@@Sam_BS_Electric 120 kms is a very short range. There are already EV's with 1000 km or more of range and that will only be increasing as R&D continues into the future with new battery designs.
@@donjohnstone3707 You miss my point; BYD PHEV go 120 kms, so not ideal but in developing countries which China still is, there is still not enough chargers and most people can't charge from a garage because they live in apartment blocks. So they are a short term fix. BYD have BEV they can now travel 1000kms, but for that range you pay a premium, and if you live in a tower block and you don't want to sit in line for hours, the cheaper PHEV are why there is a 200,000 backlog for the DMi range. Also, in Laos, or the Philippines or Thailand, Cambodia, Russi, Ukraine, Uzbekistan - where BYDs NEVS are all on sale now - there is little to no infrastructure, but people still want access to more efficient cars, why can't they have them until the infrastructure catches up. And anyway, 55% of BYD's NEV sales were BEV, still more than Tels sold in November in China and as demand decrease for PHEV, with infrastructure build out they will change the mix as they did every month last year.
@@Sam_BS_Electric Your facts are outdated. As of now, in all Chinese cities, charge stations are everywhere including parking spots underneath apartment blocks, shopping malls, public parking, designated charging areas. People living in cities require driving no more than 5km from convenient and cheap charging 24hrs/day. I own a Tesla in Shenzhen and have driven across southern China, including Hainan and Xiamen, so I would know.
@@treg9492 I know China leads the world in charging stations, but i also know that on holidays for example there are queues for hours. Also, the government have said they need more; they have 1 for every 3 cars. They want 1 for every car. I am not just talking about China; what the Philippines, or Thailand, ot cambodia? What they to wait for the infrastructure????
Anyone can build an electric car! The battery is whats most important! 90+% of people wont buy an electric car until range and charging locations double!
Tesla will become bigger than Apple. Tesla is an autonomous robotics company, of which the S3XY EVs are just first products. Think about where a Tesla bot can be applied. At any place. So yeah Tesla over BYD.
Tesla may produce 1.8 million, but judging on the TSLA china numbers they are only going to be around 80-100k/mo. BYD will out produce TSLA in the China market.
They are designing their own chips. Making them is pointless as they will never make them better or cheaper than the already established players except if there isn't some kind of a chip revolution coming out of Tesla which is highly unlikely (impossible)
BD are profitable but not as much as Tesla, about 11-13%, however it took Tesla years to be profitable, BYD have been for years. As BYD release GPM, Tesla will have to bring theirs down.
I think your title is asked and answered. However, I think BYD have better looking cars and they change their designs more often. Have to be careful of the CCP though. They don't like company monopolies in China. Look at Didi, Alibaba, Tencent, Ant Group who have had their volumes clipped. If BYD continue their dominance.... who knows.
BYD will be the next Toyota, and will eat Toyotas lunch, who has been focused on Foolcells, what a fool Akio Toyoda has been ,and his Japanese Gov't, only followed by Hyundai and its Gov't .
But both companies will not be producing equal numbers of EQUIVALENT cars. BYD will be producing a substantial number of vehicles that are not comparable to Tesla. This would be like saying GM is producing more vehicles than Tesla so they are competitive with Tesla. Don’t get me wrong, I own BYD stock so more cars the better for me. However, this is a flawed comparison.
If you are doing an Apple to Apples comparison, then you need to exclude all BYD types that are not pure EVs (IMO). Unless of course Tesla starts making hybrids ;-)
lol, he made comments in that moment... he didnt say they wouldnt be successful in the future! For reference, their cars where extremely ugly and primitive back then
Of course, currently, Tesla is better. Can BYD catch up (in the RHD markets)? Currently, it can't. In many RHD markets, BYD has just the e6 model and a commercial van model. Very fewer models than in the LHD markets. Can BYD catch up (in the LHD markets)? Very few European testers are tested/reviewed the BYD Tang EV. Need some more results/models to answer that question. I think BYD think some testers are Pro-Tesla (especially testers with their stage names started with "Tesla", of course, they pro-Tesla :-) so BYD did not yet allow them to test the cars.
Depend on what the definition of better is. Much like beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so this can vary like ice crystals. Then there is power/performance/ range. Kinda hard to compare the latter if it dont exist on the ground. Many claims can be made," say like the bolt. many where saying how good it was....until they were not. Or the 3 wheel Ev that claims 1000 miles and is faster then a Tesla. I will bet you it wont do ether. Sun kills things here in AZ where its say 120 most the summer. most people to save the paint and inside and tires park in a garage. The whole thing about fire with the exception of the Bolt, pinto and others of days gone by is Fallacy. Its like Vaccine in many many ways. ICE cars burn down every year at rate that is 100x more. You dont hear about it, since its more PC to harp on EV< Tesla is punching bag most the times if one goes up in flames they scream bloody murder, in that same day many MANY ICE went up in smoke. The Vac is said to be safe and causes no harm, like ICE they just dont talk about it.........dont even try to by the way. Quality is more an issue and only time will tell. since most these new Evs have zero track record. I have trucks that are 20-25 year on the road with one on its way back from the Moon in miles and the other near there. 20 years on any Ev will be stretch at best. caveat emptor.....
Tesla is closing in on having an EV that has been on the road for 20 years and they have cars in different countries and weathers that have already done more than 500K miles as well as the earliest Tesla Taxis that are still on their original battery.

@@jasonc6194 actually, delisting is a political headwind. Same can be said for Tesla being a US company in China
BYD is better.
The worry I have with BYD, or any large Chinese company, is you may not be able to take your money back if the CCP decides to change market access.
I don't count ANYTHING with an ICE as an EV. It is an insult to what Tesla and other all EV companies are doing..
BYD is better
They are better in what is the question
What about the "market leader?" I am sure tha Mary Barra is going to pump out 2 million. No....?
Who says that US manufacturers are independent, all US policies affecting auto manufacture depend on federal (neo-con influenced) decisions.
Invest in BYD. Just 1/10 the market cap of Tesla
All Chinese stocks trade at 90% of western stocks so it is actually correctly priced.

Where are they ahead of Tesla? Tesla is selling more vehicles and Tesla has better tech inside how is BYD ahead of Tesla?
According to simply wall street,BYD electronics is severely undervalalued about 64%.

Hell no, it will be in trouble by the US govt with many accusations.
Amurika govt is the most unreliable for foreign businesses in US.
Buy in Bangkok? No, I can't. It is not available.
What do you mean BYD not on the stock exchange? is BYDDY a different company? It has been a flat line several months now…
Just wait…. Tesla was flat for many years up to 2020.
The answer is because of NYSE listings.
I never hear much about NIO and Xpeng ??
Because there sales ar so small, they are good growth stocks, but niche companies in China.
SWAP OFF BATTERIES:
IMHO, The Viking should take a hard, cold look at the immensity of the United States auto market is still heavily "ICE". Look up the stats, they are astounding after a decade of EV hype. It is almost negligible right now...sure it is changing but the masses need a $20k NIO

And what?
TSLA is still the biggest single stock of ARK across 3 of their ETF funds.
For the moment, but Cathy is offloading TSLA left right and center. (Which is a DUMB move IMO)
Hi Sam, avid UK supporter of yours here :)
..........I cant help thinking that separating out the commercial aspects into a sub vlog, eg Stock, would make the main channel more palatable for those who support 'going green' and EVs.
For us 'make the world a better place for all' folk, Stock varies between 'no interest (no pun intended!) and borderline offensive / divisive......
I for one am not looking to get rich off the back of converting the planet to renewables / non polluting power but only have interest in the Real benefits Ranging from personal / driving pleasure to more affordable & non polluting all types of transport & heating
Yes, clearly I am aware that investment is a key element to this success, however as a non participant I would prefer not to be continually reminded of those profiteering from this wonderful global evolution that will go down in history as a key turning point for mankind
You can accuse me of hypocrisy as in not wanting to be reminded that we kill animals in order to feed ourselves, by re-packing into more palatable forms such as burgers....however that is just the way we are - I dont need reminding that people are looking to get rich on the back of this evolution...as a consumer, it taints my interest and support for this noble venture.
I would prefer that commerce be separated out from 'green endeavours' from a consumer prospective
Just my humble opinion
BYD’s growth is impressive, but I don’t see Tesla as a car company. The most exciting thing for me is A(G)I. I have no idea what BYD is doing on that front. Since it is China based, it’s not easy to have serious insight into the company.
Research more.
BYD does not need to catch Tesla...Not with their battery manufacture levels.
BYD sold 272k EVs up until November. 1.2 million are probably the total amount of passenger vehicles that they expect to sell. This doesn't mean it will be 1.2 million EVs
BYD has lower margin due to huge capital outlay for new factories.
Not to mention that MOST of BYD vehicles has ICE in them (defeating the purpose of EVs).
@@AscendedSaiyan3 Rubbish.
@@Sam_BS_Electric Great argument.
@@AscendedSaiyan3 Its not true what you are saying, so yes it's rubbish until you know the facts.
@@rogerstarkey5390 No BYD is not making their own chips
Margins are the key to value not sales or volumes

I don't think plug in hybrids should count as an electric vehicle. Really, they are ICE vehicle that happens to have a tiny battery.
that can travel over 120 kms on a charge??? I'd call that E.
"can BYD catch up" inferred that BUD is still inferior to Tesla!
BYD is already ahead, watch them take market share , with Tesla equivalent cars for 5 to 10k less per vehicle.
Blade batteries.
BYD is pretty much behind the Tesla in tech
byd来欧洲上市吧,市值肯定能涨,欧洲人注重环保的,但是可惜没有本土的什么电动车。。。
They need more models and a backflippin humanoid robot 😁
U said a mouthful there “Tesla issa global ev giant “ aaagreed urda best shout out ta Cal an Jack
When will Tesla start making its own chips?
They are designing their own chips. Making them is pointless as they will never make them better or cheaper than the already established players except if there isn't some kind of a chip revolution coming out of Tesla which is highly unlikely (impossible)
@@davout5775 Thanks Dave, good to know.
BD are profitable but not as much as Tesla, about 11-13%, however it took Tesla years to be profitable, BYD have been for years. As BYD release GPM, Tesla will have to bring theirs down.

Tesla is still the best EV stock to buy. Its huge capitalization means the value of the Tesla stock won’t vaporize - you can sleep better at night.
Thats exactly the problem with Tesla, its valuation!!!
For BYD to catch up they would need to 4x those numbers. BYD is falling further behind Tesla every day.
Pace of innovation with extreme urgency leads to th best selling vehicle 2.5 years after becoming profitable
If Tesla is like Apple, BYD is like Samsung? Samsung may sell lots of mobile phones, but most of the earnings goes to Apple.
The bill will not pass. We, working class people want EV's too, but the US government still serves
fossil fuel industry.
I think your title is asked and answered. However, I think BYD have better looking cars and they change their designs more often.
Have to be careful of the CCP though. They don't like company monopolies in China. Look at Didi, Alibaba, Tencent, Ant Group who have had their volumes clipped. If BYD continue their dominance.... who knows.
I know that the design is a subjective thing but you can't say that BYD has better desing dude xD
March or April Tesla produced 70,000 byd produced 93,000 playin catch up quick
Lol who's better? Still wondering??
Tesla will probably end this year with 2 million vehicles if we think about all the factories ramping up...
Next year. Yes, i think BYD will be around the same though.
I love BYD han
Won't it be ironic if BYD overtakes Tesla, after Musk made a condescending remark about BYD in an interview?
lol, he made comments in that moment... he didnt say they wouldnt be successful in the future! For reference, their cars where extremely ugly and primitive back then
Their cars looked like toys back then. Nowadays it is different but still Tesla to this very day is ahead of BYD
BYD is one of a few Chinese companies likely to produce over 1M EVs in 2022..
150-200 ~
Solar panels on a vehicle is a gimmick at best since anyone can do the math. and remember "usable Sun hours its not 24/7.
Jai Hinduja. BYD can work on spaceships and 6G satellites.
