Absolutely, as an Indian I believe pakistani air force has taken a better route. They inducted FC-1 Xiaolong (JF-17) then China upgraded it and Pakistani air force continued to imbibe those upgrades while inducting more and more FC-1s.
On the other hand, IAF never wanted to induct a initial model, they continued to request upgrades over upgrades over upgrades without inducting any aircrafts. That's a foolish approach I guess.
Pakistani Air force did a better job here as compared to Indian Air Force in this regard.
Hope IAF will take lessons from PAF in this regard. Good video....from across the border 👍

India has developed tejas and learnt a lot during its development process and can now Improve tejas jet further without any help and hence tejas mk1A and mk 2 is getting developed and AMCA is also getting developed. while major design and system development of jf17 was done by china and hence pakistan even after near 20 years of jf17 development is still forced to look to turkey and china for future jets

Tejas mark 2 and mark 1 are completely different aircrafts and they will be flying simultaneously and be doing different roles. Mark 2 is a f-16 class fighter jet which is medium weight and mark 1A is a light fighter jet .

Tejas mk1 is a decent plane, but India is a huge country and they have to replace so many aircrafts including mirage and that is why the panned mk2 will be a preferred choice over mk1 or mk1a. But mk1 has given us learning, confidence and is being used to meet urgent requirement of depleting fleet.

well there is some missunderstanding! first off all tejas mk1, mk1a and tejas mk2 will replace mig-21 , mirag 2000 and mig-29 in near future , and next year all mig-21 will be faced out, so tejas mk1a and mk2 will help indian air force to help decreasing fighter jet squadrons strenght!!!
IAF never wanted mk1 or mk1a, it's just a stop gap measure so it be never be happy till it gets mk2.
Who said that India doesn't get anything from tejas, first of all it India first supersonic jet. Unlike Pakistan we choose to develop our industry, our supply chain , which of course will take time to develop every thing from scratch. One correction 83+97
A good analysis but it ignores some facts:
1. IAF knew from day one that Tejas was a superior jet in comparison to MiG-21 but at the time Tejas was to be inducted, the Indian Air Force was running the MRFA programme.
2. The Indian Air Force wanted to purchase a medium category jet under the MRFA program but they were afraid that if they included Tejas in large numbers in IAF, the MRFA program might get cancelled.
3. That is why they deliberately kept the Tejas program involved in testing for a long time so that the MRFA program is not be affected.
4. When the BJP government came to power in 2014, they took the Tejas program forward. 50 Tejas in operational and 83+97 =180 Tejas MK1a on order.
5. JF-17 was never the first choice of Pakistani Air Force, when America refused to give F-16 to Pakistan and Pakistan's economy was so weak that they could not afford any new jet from Western countries, then they joined the JF-17 program. They included the JF-17 with its shortcomings because there was no other option and the program improved over time.

J10A,B was complete shithole back then, Europe was not ready to sell any aircraft and neither they were affordable, Russia was neither ready to sell mig29M, and twin engine was never an choice so they could have brought j11Bs or even j15s (naval Variant were Russia has no right as it was brought from Ukraine)
the only option Pakistan had was to develop a LCA aircraft to complement f16s..
So they brought it in big numbers as you guys already had a big fleet of mirages & j7 which were useless..
So it was Pakistan's neccesity to make & buy them in huge numbers .

100 Mig29s, 55 mirage 2000 upgrade ones..
So indian airforce was never desperate to get Tejas inducted like jf17..
