The MWRY uncoupler is provided specically for uncoupling passenger cars that have diaphrams prototypically positioned above the couplers. The plain side of the uncoupler slips in from the side between the top of the couplers and the bottom of the diaphrams. The round end of the tool can be used to open knuckles in preparation for coupling.
Precision Cast EC87K Assembly Fixture - EC87K kits, you'll want an AFC Assembly Fixture. This fixture is used to hold the coupler together as it is assembled. The AFC is also very handy for holding the coupler if it becomes necessary to thin the shank of the coupler for certain installations. Note that this fixture works for EC87 and SBEC87 couplers, but not double shelf or tightlock couplers
For the money, they should be assembled already.
Sadly Sergent Engineering Couplers is no more. Frank left and shut down the website in the summer of 2022. There is talk of Inventive Models making a similar type of coupler (likely starting out in brass). Thanks to Frank for his efforts and amazing product; luckily I have enough to run my layout.
Those couplers are fantastic they look so realistic
I believe Athearn used plastic couplers because they use a metal frame that conducts electricity. If the couplers were both metal, and the units were back to back...the polarity would be reversed on each frame, and since the couplers would conduct electrity, a short could happen.
I haven't had any problems with those couples. Everyone has different experiences with them. I enjoy using them because it looks & acts like the prototype In my opinion.
cool music. assembly demonstration was top notch.
I’ve been using them for about a year now.... love them, look great and strong as hell.!!
Makes running dpu session all that more interesting.... no slack to make it a little easier everyone has to be on their game..
Great video
Love em best looking ever!!
Sergent, Kadee, ScaleTrains all have metal couplers. Athearn bought out Mchenry's which have the 3 prototypical styles but they are still plastic. Why? They say they are considering making them in metal. Only time will tell.
". . .friction spring is not intended to center coupler. . ." Huh? What does???
nice video, thanks for sharing! :)
Thanks for watching!
Great video EH, my Pop was right, no matter how old ya get ya learn something new everyday if you just pay attention
👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️ Cary

I don't remember but I sent you the link where I get my music from
Where did you get the Jig?
I bought the jig From the manufacturer's website At that time.
I love these couplers. Nothing can beat the look of exact scale. I held off a few years ago from switching to them because I was concerned about log term availability. Have they found anyone to manufacture them since Sergent is closing down?
Hey I've been ordering off their website I have about 4 of the kits I'm using them on locomotives because they look prototypical they also couple up to other manufacturers couplers.
@@engineerhall5887 They were discussing Sergent couplers on Model Railroading Live about 3d printing Sergent couplers because of availability issues. Frank Sergent did release the design to public domain and that is stated on the website. If you go to the FAQ tab and see compatibility, it says they dont work with other knuckle couplers so that is where I base that from. I built a pair of the couplers about 20 years ago to see if I liked them but never tried to use it with others. It is nice to know you were able to get them to work with some other brands. They are by far the best looking couplers in the hobby and have been for many years. Cheers Rob
Did I miss the fitting of the tiny springs?
That will be in another video there I'll show the information in a locomotive. The spring almost the same size as a kadee spring but it doesn't take long to install
i would get those, and then know I really am blind..lol but might be worth the try
they are not compatible with any other couplers because they are exact scale size. Sergent is also going to be closing so i dont know what the future holds for them
