Hi Roberto, I bought a new WD My cloud Pro 32GB, it's amazing price of technology. Two things I couldn't work out is the admin login only works for me when I'm using the network in my office that I used to initial setup. If I get home I cannot login as an admin and create shares and users. The second issue I had was setting up the folder drives on my computer as you have done on yours. I think it's very neat, you go to my computer and the directories are already there. If you ever decide to make future video please cover those. I've had my cloud for two days now and I'm loving it.
Thanks for these thorough and very accessible videos! Enjoying them very much and they're very useful in filling in the areas I've not figured out for myself. Do you have any experience and opinions on using the EX4100 as a target device for computers on the same network? I'm still using a computer-connected Time Machine drive for my Macs, but need something to service 3-4 Windows computers in my household. I see that the EX4100 comes with a WD Smartware product. Is that useful and reliable? Thanks!
+Ric Bretschneider Hi Ric, thanks for the feedback!! Glad you found useful. Regarding Smart Ware works fine you can backup your PCs to the NAS, but i do prefer a software that i use for a long time that is Aomei Backuper. Its great in my opinion for backing up Pcs. So its just a matter of personal preference, Works great but if you dont like it by some reason you can always use any other software. RJ
Hi Roberto, love your videos, I have a mac system, with iMac 2009 and a MacBook Pro 2009, I use a 2 TB WD firewire 800 and a 3 TB WD usb 2 for my backups. Would like to go with a Thunderbolt 2 backups later in the year, WD or Lacie, like 6TB tb2 from the macs to be used as storage and then 6TB tb2 or usb 3 for backup. Not sure if I should go with a nas system or just stand alone harddrives! Any suggestions? Take care.
gryphongryph Hi, a NAS is a great investment in my opinion. Direct storage and NAS for me are very important but for diferent purposes. I use DAS for files that im constantly accessing and working like videos and projects but once i finish them i keep all on my NAS and then i backup the NAS to a USB 3.0 Drive. So my suggestion is think well how you will use your storage and then make a decision but it seems that you will need only a NAS. You can still use the drives that you have to acess files directly and use a NAS to store. All the Best. RJ
Thanks for the fast reply, mostly I work with photo libraries and at the last few years Apples Aperture! which I maybe have to change :-((( in the next year or two, If I buy the MacBookPro thats comes out later this year my storage will be on the small side, thinking working from the external via Thunderbolt when I come home, like a raid 5, then a backup disk to copy the thunderbolt drive. Let see what it ends up being, have a few months to decide, Love your channel. and again thanks for the swift reply.
gryphongryph Thats a great way of doing things, im the same :) a few months before i need something im already studying the best solution :) Thanks again for the feedback!! All the Best. RJ
hi Roberto, I want to buy ex4100 to sync it with my EX2 but you said that if I choose sync (not copy) option, it will do the job only once. The question is, shouldnt it sync automatically? Like if I change a word file (it gets bigger) does it synchronize or stay until I do it through dashboard? thank you
i want to backup my 12 tb Files from one wd nas to another one, how the Remote Backup works after a complete Backup? is the second Backup an incremental or a differential Backup or it only makes complete Backups?
Hi and thank you for the great video series about this devise. I wish to ask if I can do a back up from my main computer (for example photo's folder) to the NAS and have this as automatic ? same thing for backing up phones to Nas , is that possible?
+Erfan Ali Hi Erfan, humm trough the NAS interface it self i dont believe that is possible at this time. You could off course map a drive on one of your computers and point a backup from the NAS to that folder and then have the One drive upload to the cloud but the computer would need to be on for this to happen as the NAS software does not do that. Sorry RJ
teksolutions719 If they have SSH permission and Port Forwarding options like the WD has will work. I have tested successfully 1 Terramaster and 1 Zyxel NAS and both let me backup to the WD EX2 and EX4100. Hope it helps. RJ
Hi Roberto. Thanks for your video, I really love your approach. I have a really important question about the "remote backup". At the moment I have a WD My Cloud Duo (it is a very basic NAS), www.wdc.com/it/products/products.aspx?id=620 and now I need to Upgrade my network with the EX4100 because my business require this update. Do you think I can use easly my "old" WD My Cloud Duo as remote backup for the EX4100, or there will be some problems of compatibility? (you suggest to use the same machine to remote backup). This is a very important question, because I need to Upgrade my net soon but I don't want to waste money !
L Zo Hi Zo, thanks for the feedback!! I knoe for a fact that the EX4100, EX2100, EX4, EX2 can accept and send remote backups. The My Cloud Duo im not sure but i imagine it can. Go to the network settings and check if you have port forwarding options for SSH and Backups, if you see them there then you are ready to go :) RJ
Roberto Jorge Thanks for your super fast feedback. You are the best ! Unfortunately I don't find in My Cloud Duo option for SSH and Backups. I have also check in the manual: www.wdc.com/wdproducts/library/UM/ENG/4779-705065.pdf In this manual there is a little part about "Port Forwarding", but honesty I don't know if it's correct and I don't know how to set it. It's difficult for me. I have surfed the internet looking for some guide, but I don't find anything about how to set it. You are my only hope ;-) Many thanks for all, L. Zo.
L Zo If you have a port forward section check if there is a option to enable SSH and Remote backups. It should be as the firmware is very similar to the EX2, EX4100. RJ
