It's actually really good despite it sounding ridiculous. Don't watch the anime either, as it doesn't even cover last 4 arcs/episodes/chapters. At least read the manga if you have no time for the visual novel. Read Higurashi before Umineko. Umineko references Higurashi a lot (Battler at the start of EP 1 makes a reference, and at the end of EP 3, Lambdadelta says she is reading it.) (There is also a character which is literally a walking talking references to Rika Furude, a character from Higurashi).
