- As we round into our last few weeks of gestation on our winter lambing group, the watch is on!
Fortunately, so far no signs of pregnancy toxemia... unfortunately, we've got a ewe babying her front right shoulder.
It took me a bit to realize this was a ewe who injured her shoulder after getting her head stuck in a gate... she had literally gone unnoticed since then, not even showing signs of limping, so I had lost track of her. Until now.
Ruby Sue is another uphill battle that I feel I'm losing.
Corn harvest is in full swing, and we couldn't ask for better weather!

Those ewes in the creep feed saw Sandi and said, quick! Mom's here! Get out!
We debated whether to get a puppy. We discussed that at the age of 70+ we would be dealing with all that comes with an advanced age dog's final days. Now he is blind and diabetic and incontinent. We are helping him navigate, even in our house. He doesn’t seem to feel bad, so we limp along. My heart goes out to you and Ruby Sue. This is the hard part that comes after the joy and laughs a pet afford us. 😢
@glenjones883 my husband and I have stood where you are standing. We had not only had senior dogs we adopted, but also were long time owners of 4 fjord ponies. Over the past few years the senior dogs were given the last act of kindness and cremated, when their health dictated it was time. Then one by one each of the ponies either naturally passed or due to long term illnesses that could no longer give them a good quality of life, they were also given the last act of kindness. The last pony passed 9/9/2024 and when we buried her, we placed the ashes of the 4 dogs that had previously passed with her. I’m crying as I write this, as it has been since 1988 that I got my first pony, she was 3, she passed at the age of 28. When we were down to one dog, I believe the Lord directed me to our local city animal shelter’s website which had just posted a picture of 2 young (2-3 yr olds) dogs surrendered, I think from a puppy mill, that needed adopting together. After getting the ok from my husband we did a meet & great the next morning. Our old gal loved them and they her & we agreed to adopt. The shelter still needed to spay the female and when that was done we brought both home. 2 weeks later, the 16 yr old, blind and arthritic old pup let us know it was her time, we were in good hands with the younger pups and she was ready to join her buddies. It was 2 yrs ago we brought them home and they are doing great. God gives us such a big heart to love animals that I believe when it is our time we will see them again, healthy and happy. It is so hard to go through, the barn & pastures are empty, but we are blessed with these cute dogs that comfort me daily. At 73 I won’t get anymore ponies, but I can still love on these 2 dogs. I have such empathy for Sandi, we know how difficult this is, but not for a minute would she do differently, nor should she. She has a heart of gold, with a loving husband by her side. I know the struggles you are dealing with and your pup is in good hands, make sure you get a plaster imprint of a paw when the time comes, it is good to keep the memories. I'm doing the same for my dog she is blind and deaf and eats or doesn't so I hand feed her and potty problems but is still a puppy at times and we find a way to enjoy our days I love to watch her be so proud of herself sometimes and get happy for water she's still fun

I adopted an older three legged pound hound. Gus was just Gus, lazier than a lazy hound dog. The vet tried to convince us that it was time, because Gus just didn't seem to have any umph. Nah, that's just Gus being Gus. Then came the day we know it was time. They just let you know.
I can't get over how quiet the lamb barn was.

Grief is the price of love. Be assured Ruby Sue knew how much she was loved.
It's hard to loss a animal that you love them so much. But, there's one thing we can say about you. Your animals all have love and the best care. You makes sure their all loved and well feed.
Watching you with Golden Girls touches my heart!
Each one has a special memory for you, and you bring those memories to life for us!

My husband doesn’t watch your channel, but I talk about you and your sheep all the time. Today when I saw your title, I said, “Oh no, one of Sandy’s sheep is down!” And he replied, “Oh no, is it Ruby Sue?” Sandy, I know you will do what you can to make her comfortable. Your sheep are very lucky to have you for their shepherd.

I understand your feelings about Ruby Sue. I have a 16 1/2 year old Yorkie that I am pampering. My husband passed last year and this was his dog. Just kind of the last living attachment to him. I know I need to do something soon though.😢

Your ability to handle all types,and sizes, of machinery should make you proud. My favorite was the day you moved the big fertilizer truck, which you had fun doing.
