The real story of Heera Mandi, on which sanjay leela bhansali made a netflix series. Heera mandi h is a historic red-light district in Lahore, Pakistan. which has a long and complex history that dates back several centuries. The area was originally known as Shahi Mohalla, which means "royal neighbourhood," and was located near the Lahore Fort. During the Mughal Empire, the area was a hub of music and dance, and was frequented by the royal court and the city's elite.
In the 18th century, the area began to attract courtesans or "tawaifs," who were skilled in music, dance, poetry, and conversation. These women were highly respected and played an important role in the cultural life of the city. They performed at weddings, festivals, and other social events, and were often patrons of the arts. In the 19th century, the British colonial government introduced a number of laws and regulations aimed at curbing prostitution and regulating the sex trade.
