Bob Cousy (pre-Russell days) scoring 50 points in an elimination first round game in 1952 or 53, a game which went to 4 overtimes, with Cousy twice sending the game to another OT period with near mid court shots at the buzzer 2. Long time watcher, first time commenter. I love all your videos. You have some really good ideas and good historical takes on my favorite sport. I would LOVE too see more of the forgotten great games
I mean, even though Irving played so well, he's not the reason Curry didn't play the way he was supposed to play. I'd say the real underrated performance is Kevin Love's one in Game 7. His defense was absolutely crazy.
Dominique Wilkins against Larry Bird in the 1988 Eastern Conference Semifinals. I thought for sure it was gonna be in this video! 😁 Keep up the amazing work. And thank you.
Great video as always. Lebron had that monster line in the JR Smith blunder finals game 1 50 points plus... Obviously Clyde Frazier in the "Willis Reed" game.
Oh I remember Draymond game 7... I was fuming because I thought (having rooted for CLE there) that we would loose to a lucky hot Draymond Green game and I was out of my mind
To this day, I still believe that if the Lakers won Game 6 in 2006, they would have gone to the Finals. Idk if they would have won because Miami was good that year, but man a Kobe VS Shaq and Wade finals would’ve been something to see!
Kevin Love's 31-31, or largely any of the years he carried an injured and ill-equipped Timberwolves shadowing Kevin Garnett before him (also interesting to me was those teams were like the whitest I've ever seen)
can't believe this is the first i heard that story too. i must've looked at the top 10 list for "points in a game". but i never noticed DT's name. i must've assumed all the top ones were Wilt!
Michael Beasley's insane 26 game stretch with the houston rockets in 2016 was the greatest 6th man ive ever seen, that is unless it was Josh Smith's stint in the same place the year before
Curry's 47 Pts-8 Ast-7 Rebs-2 stls perfomance in game 3 of the 2019 NBA finals..On 49 % from the field...52 % from 3 in 42 mins played. His team was riddled with Injury..no Klay, Durant or Cousins.....and it ended in a 14 pt loss....but it was a great performance with all the defensive attention on him
Kevin McHale's 56 Points. It is by far the best game of his career and he was by far the best player for the Celtics as he shoot 22/28 from the field and 12/13 from the free throw line. Compared to his team which shot 29/68 from the field. He also had 10 ORB which is another career high for him. And before that game he only had 8 30+ games with a career high of 33 and after that he only had one other 40+ game (42) which happened the following game after his 56 points.
Agree, gang of Rondo games could be talked about. The 44 in the return to boston, the two games against them in the playoffs with the bulls before he got injured, his 25 assist game where Boogie didnt even know and cost him a couple more, any number of his kings team record setting percormances. Rajon Rondo one of the truly underappreciated greats in basketball history. Living legend. He and Pau Gasol are truly what made those Finals series legendary. No other player in either position would have yielded the same results
Bob Cousy's 50 point performance against the Syracuse Nationals during the March 1953 playoffs. Bob made 10 field goals in 22 attempts and a remarkable 30 of 32 from the line. The celtics won this game in QUADRUPLE OVERTIME .
Really enjoyed this look back. This would definitely make a great and very watchable series, if you become so inclined... Thanks for doing what you do!
It's a huge shame that these games were only decided by a couple of points too, some legendary stat lines in this video! Make this a series please Jonny cause this was a banger of a video
what people dont realize is magic retired while in his prime, people actin like magic is past his prime when he caught that hiv virus but he didnt. imagine the accolades, career totals, awards etc that he couldve been won if he didnt get the virus? im not saying that he could break that stockton record but who knows.
The assist record? Unfortunately for Magic, he never led the league in assists again after Stockton became a starter in 1987-88. The former had one season w/ 13+ apg while the latter had five in a row, reaching 14+ apg twice.
I always loved the Magic Johnson 13pts, 13 reb, 13 assists in game 6 of 1982 final. Doc J said Earvin was only one who could dominate a game taking 3 shots. Magic was 2 for 3 from field. 9 for 9 ft
Bill Russell's 30 pts, 40 reb and 8 blocks on 59% TS% against the Lakers in game 7 of the 1962 finals Baylor's 61 points (finals record) and 22 rebounds on 56% TS% against the Celtics in game 5 of the 1962 finals Wilt's 29 pts, 36 reb, 13 as and 7 blocks on 63% shooting against the Celtics in game 5 (last game of the series) of he ECF of 1967 to deny Russell for he 1st and only time in his career the Finals West's 42 pts, 13 reb and 12 as on 57% TS% against the Celtics in game 7 of the 1969 finals Frazier's 36 pts, 7 reb and 19 as on 71% shooting and 81% TS% against the Lakers in game 7 of the 1970 finals (when Reed was heavily injured) Rick Barry's 55 pts, 12 reb and 5 as against the 76ers in game 3 of the 1967 finals Baylor's 63 pts, 31 reb (record for a sf) and 7 as against the Warriors of Wilt in december 8th 1962, being this the only 60/30/5 game in NBA history Wilt's 78 pts and 43 reb against the Lakers in december 8th 1962, being this the only 70/40 game ever as well as the only 60/40 game ever as well as 1 of the only 5 50/40 games ever (all 5 by Wilt). So in the same game 2 opposing players made a record still unbroken (and most likely never to be broken) but what is crazier to me is how mundane Jerry West's 30 point triple-double in that same game looks next to those 2, like it is an average game and many more I don't recall right now, many many games, players and even decades go very under the radar and get none of the recognition they deserve, so amazing games like these and the ones in the video there are dozens and dozens, one just has to keep looking and they never stop popping out, sometimes where we don't expect them to be
I can't recall the performance, but take a look at Bernard King trying to carry the Knicks. I'm sure you will find multiple heroic losing efforts for your series.
One of my greatest performances no one talks avout,I was having stomach issues. I had to let one RIP, and I swear it was 20+ seconds. It was AMAZING. Longest fart I have ever heard. Guiness book style it was epic. And I hate saying the epic, but I'll never forget it
Lamarcus Aldridge in 2014 against the Rockets in the 1st round. Everyone remembers Lillards .9 shot, but people forget Aldridge had like multiple 40+points and 15+ rebound games that series. He dominated the Rockets down low.
Kobe’s 65 point game vs the Blazers in 2007. The Lakers were coming off a 7 game losing streak, and they needed EVERY SINGLE ONE of those points to win this one. Kobe had to score the second most points of his career and hit some of the toughest shots you’ll ever see just for them to win this game. This also kicked off his streak of 4 straight 50 point games
Kevin Garnett 2004 Game 7 WCSF He dropped 32 points, 21 rebounds, 5 blocks and 4 steals Keep in mind, the final score for both teams was 80-83 The league average RIGHT NOW is 113ppg. Using Proportions, that would be the equivalent of a guy in 2022 putting up 44 points, 29 rebounds, 7 blocks and 6 steals on 65%TS
Maybe you should continue the series not just with players but with teams as well. I really liked this btw. Makes you appreciate these players a little more
You make great videos man. As someone who is a diehard basketball fan, you make some of the greatest videos. I've learned so much watching. I appreciate it. Also just so everyone knows, Jordan is the goat
Even tho they won the game and the series, ppl tend to forget about Klay Thompson's Game 6 performance against the Thunder in that amazing 2016 playoffs where he made 11 3's setting a playoff record, team down 3-2, and down the whole game is criminally under-appreciated.
It’s kind of crazy how people consistently think Vince Carter isn’t top 50 but if he actually won that game where he dropped 50 against Allen Iverson he would’ve went to the finals. And if he did that all the stories we hear about AI will be switched to Vince Carter except him change in the NBA with his style and handles
Antawn Jamison, Mo Williams, Omri Casspi, Anderson Varejao, Isaiah Thomas, Marcus Thornton, Nikola Mirotic... I've witnessed a lot of "obscure" players absolutely pop off
Lebron's 49,6 and 8 game 1 vs the magic in 09 is very underated, heck his entire 2009 playoff run was absolutely magnificent yet nobody ever talks about it

2. Pete Maravich 68 points in a regular season game vs Knicks in 1977
3. George Gervin wins 1977-78 scoring title with 63 points, including 53 in first half. His 33 points scored in 2nd quarter was a record which lasted until 2016 when Klay Thonpron scored 37. But Gervin did it without benefit of three-point line!
1980s and 90s
1. 1980 Finals Game 6: everyone talks of Magic and his 42 points but what about Jamaal Wilkes with his 37 points and 10 rebounds?
2. Also in Game 5 of that series, Kareem badly sprained his ankle but scored 40 points including winning three-point play with a dunk while being fouled by Dr. J with 30 seconds left. All forgotten.
3. 1984 Game 5 Pistons vs Knicks 1st round: Isaiah Thomas scores 16 points in 90 seconds (!) to send deciding Game to OT, but Bernard King scores 50 to lead Knicks to victory
4. Charles Barkley 44 points and 24 rebounds in Game 7 of 1993 Western Final, or his 56 points in 1994 first round game vs GS Warriors with rookie Chris Webber
5. David Robinson's 71 to clinch 1993-94 scoring title
Mj's 49 in game 1 versus the 1986 Celtics which is why his 63 pts was even more amazing given the Celtics were focusing on Mj.
Long time watcher, first time commenter. I love all your videos. You have some really good ideas and good historical takes on my favorite sport. I would LOVE too see more of the forgotten great games
Kyrie Irving in 2016 Finals. Everyone just acts like it was only Lebron, but Kyrie dropped 41 pts. with Lebron and guarded Curry.
I mean, even though Irving played so well, he's not the reason Curry didn't play the way he was supposed to play. I'd say the real underrated performance is Kevin Love's one in Game 7. His defense was absolutely crazy.
@@llawliet3972 yea his defense was crazy for one play lol
@@bit1149 Nd that was the play they needed
@@nicoli-thenextup9866 the 3 wouldnt have mattered u forgot that it was a 4pt game ? with 2 seconds left on the clock once speights got the board lol
in the 2016 playoffs bron led the cavs in blocks, steals, DBPM, Defensive win shares and defensive rating
Prime Rando so amazing to watch his passing was👌
Dominique Wilkins against Larry Bird in the 1988 Eastern Conference Semifinals. I thought for sure it was gonna be in this video! 😁 Keep up the amazing work. And thank you.
You should do more of these. Love this type of content.
He played probably best game of his career and If Curry, Klay or any player hit anything they'd probably win
Didn't know that about Draymond. Great information here
Love this channel, and love the videos, somehow you always manage to make a video that I never thought i wouldve wanted and theyre bangers
1996 finals had some amazing Rodman games once you look at everything he did.
There was an outside chance of him being Finals MVP. He was very valuable in that series against the Sonics.
To this day, I still believe that if the Lakers won Game 6 in 2006, they would have gone to the Finals. Idk if they would have won because Miami was good that year, but man a Kobe VS Shaq and Wade finals would’ve been something to see!
Basically every non-Dirk Maverick in the 2011 Finals, particularly JJ Barea
17 points on game 5, Barea had guts not gonna lie
great video as always brother
I’m a simple man. I see Jonny. I click thumbs up 💪🏾😎
I like this video Jonny. You should do another video like this to make a series!
I think people need to look back at what Shaq was actually doing in Miami and be impressed.
I hope Kobe’s 65 are on here. His 4th quarter and overtime are unbelievable
I’m assuming his 62 in 3 quarters qualifies as enough attention
Kevin Love's 31-31, or largely any of the years he carried an injured and ill-equipped Timberwolves shadowing Kevin Garnett before him (also interesting to me was those teams were like the whitest I've ever seen)
the mavs are giving them a run for that title
@@fkcct6967 mavs have always been white, its their schhhtick
Bird’s Celtics were pretty white, and the best white team ever.
welp guess someone forgot that one.
LeBron in game six of the ecf facing elimination against Boston without Kevin Love:
46 points
11 rebounds
9 asiststs
Cavs win by 10
5:23 wow that is amazing, what a night for the NBA! can't believe DT's game wasn't televised 😭 if that happened now, it would have been so crazy!
can't believe this is the first i heard that story too. i must've looked at the top 10 list for "points in a game". but i never noticed DT's name. i must've assumed all the top ones were Wilt!
John Stockton had 29 points and 20 assists in Game 7 of the 1988 Western Conference Semifinal against the Lakers.
Dis vid was Priceless.Loved it.
55 seconds in and I already need this one to be a series lol I can watch about 10-15 of these videos
bro, your videos are amazing. Hope you'll never stop making them
5:12 - I just love that 73-7-73.7% stat line 😁
Michael Beasley's insane 26 game stretch with the houston rockets in 2016 was the greatest 6th man ive ever seen, that is unless it was Josh Smith's stint in the same place the year before
Curry's 47 Pts-8 Ast-7 Rebs-2 stls perfomance in game 3 of the 2019 NBA finals..On 49 % from the field...52 % from 3 in 42 mins played.
His team was riddled with Injury..no Klay, Durant or Cousins.....and it ended in a 14 pt loss....but it was a great performance with all the defensive attention on him
Yes!!!! This needs to be a series!!! Please let’s make this happen!!!
did everyone forget about wilts 37 and 55 rebounds
Make this a series please Jonny cause this was a banger of a video
another banger by the homie johnny :)
Rondo dropping a 44 pt triple double in the ecf was a marvel to watch
what people dont realize is magic retired while in his prime, people actin like magic is past his prime when he caught that hiv virus but he didnt. imagine the accolades, career totals, awards etc that he couldve been won if he didnt get the virus? im not saying that he could break that stockton record but who knows.
The assist record? Unfortunately for Magic, he never led the league in assists again after Stockton became a starter in 1987-88. The former had one season w/ 13+ apg while the latter had five in a row, reaching 14+ apg twice.
Thanks for this vid... It is always gud to b reminded of some historic performance of other players... Keep it up n God bless.
I always loved the Magic Johnson 13pts, 13 reb, 13 assists in game 6 of 1982 final. Doc J said Earvin was only one who could dominate a game taking 3 shots. Magic was 2 for 3 from field. 9 for 9 ft
Great topic. I hope I am smelling a new series🙏🏼
Bill Russell's 30 pts, 40 reb and 8 blocks on 59% TS% against the Lakers in game 7 of the 1962 finals
Baylor's 61 points (finals record) and 22 rebounds on 56% TS% against the Celtics in game 5 of the 1962 finals
Wilt's 29 pts, 36 reb, 13 as and 7 blocks on 63% shooting against the Celtics in game 5 (last game of the series) of he ECF of 1967 to deny Russell for he 1st and only time in his career the Finals
West's 42 pts, 13 reb and 12 as on 57% TS% against the Celtics in game 7 of the 1969 finals
Frazier's 36 pts, 7 reb and 19 as on 71% shooting and 81% TS% against the Lakers in game 7 of the 1970 finals (when Reed was heavily injured)
Rick Barry's 55 pts, 12 reb and 5 as against the 76ers in game 3 of the 1967 finals
Baylor's 63 pts, 31 reb (record for a sf) and 7 as against the Warriors of Wilt in december 8th 1962, being this the only 60/30/5 game in NBA history
Wilt's 78 pts and 43 reb against the Lakers in december 8th 1962, being this the only 70/40 game ever as well as the only 60/40 game ever as well as 1 of the only 5 50/40 games ever (all 5 by Wilt). So in the same game 2 opposing players made a record still unbroken (and most likely never to be broken) but what is crazier to me is how mundane Jerry West's 30 point triple-double in that same game looks next to those 2, like it is an average game
and many more I don't recall right now, many many games, players and even decades go very under the radar and get none of the recognition they deserve, so amazing games like these and the ones in the video there are dozens and dozens, one just has to keep looking and they never stop popping out, sometimes where we don't expect them to be
Definitely turn this into a series
its crazy that people dont talk about a lot of these
Make this a series !!
I can't recall the performance, but take a look at Bernard King trying to carry the Knicks. I'm sure you will find multiple heroic losing efforts for your series.
Glad to see someone mentioned Bernard King. He was unstoppable.
@@miked1400 seconded!
Nick Anderson: Magic vs Nets 1993, Willie Burton: 76ers vs Heat 1994, and Dana Barros: 76ers vs Rockets 1995.
One of my greatest performances no one talks avout,I was having stomach issues. I had to let one RIP, and I swear it was 20+ seconds. It was AMAZING. Longest fart I have ever heard. Guiness book style it was epic. And I hate saying the epic, but I'll never forget it
Kobe !!! All time favorite
Lamarcus Aldridge in 2014 against the Rockets in the 1st round. Everyone remembers Lillards .9 shot, but people forget Aldridge had like multiple 40+points and 15+ rebound games that series. He dominated the Rockets down low.
I am a Houston fan so I do have a biased but I feel like we have some of the most underrated players.
As a thunder fan, its the westbrook's 43 points in the finals, after magic talked down him the first few games of the series
I would probably go with KD in game 1. 41 on Lebrons head and I think 17 in the 4th quarter 🔥
Draymond Green's game 7 truly got lost in that cavs epic comeback
Kobe’s 65 point game vs the Blazers in 2007. The Lakers were coming off a 7 game losing streak, and they needed EVERY SINGLE ONE of those points to win this one. Kobe had to score the second most points of his career and hit some of the toughest shots you’ll ever see just for them to win this game. This also kicked off his streak of 4 straight 50 point games
Kevin Garnett 2004 Game 7 WCSF
He dropped 32 points, 21 rebounds, 5 blocks and 4 steals
Keep in mind, the final score for both teams was 80-83
The league average RIGHT NOW is 113ppg.
Using Proportions, that would be the equivalent of a guy in 2022 putting up 44 points, 29 rebounds, 7 blocks and 6 steals on 65%TS
Played good defense. Sad that the kings couldn't compete anymore. Post webber ACL
Miller and Rose both dropping 40 in game 5 of the 2000 finals
Maybe you should continue the series not just with players but with teams as well. I really liked this btw. Makes you appreciate these players a little more
You make great videos man. As someone who is a diehard basketball fan, you make some of the greatest videos. I've learned so much watching. I appreciate it. Also just so everyone knows, Jordan is the goat
What about Hakeem's
38 points
17 rebounds ( 10 ORB)
6 assists
7 steals
12 blocks
Best all around performance of all time
Even tho they won the game and the series, ppl tend to forget about Klay Thompson's Game 6 performance against the Thunder in that amazing 2016 playoffs where he made 11 3's setting a playoff record, team down 3-2, and down the whole game is criminally under-appreciated.
Great video. Make this a series!!!!
Video suggestion: the most random players to drop 50 points
That would be sick
It’s kind of crazy how people consistently think Vince Carter isn’t top 50 but if he actually won that game where he dropped 50 against Allen Iverson he would’ve went to the finals.
And if he did that all the stories we hear about AI will be switched to Vince Carter except him change in the NBA with his style and handles
Great video bro, looking forward to part 2
From 2010 to 2012 Rondo was a top 5 point guard in the game
5:20 His face kind of looks tmac lol
Antawn Jamison, Mo Williams, Omri Casspi, Anderson Varejao, Isaiah Thomas, Marcus Thornton, Nikola Mirotic... I've witnessed a lot of "obscure" players absolutely pop off
OL'🐐👑WILT CHAMBERLAIN'S QUINTUPLE-DOUBLE(53 POINTS .. 32 REBOUNDS .. 24 BLOCKS .. 14 ASSISTS .. 11 STEALS) ..
Lebron's 49,6 and 8 game 1 vs the magic in 09 is very underated, heck his entire 2009 playoff run was absolutely magnificent yet nobody ever talks about it
Elton Brand against the Suns in the playoffs GM 1: 40 PTS, 9 REB, 3 AST, 4 BLK, 82 FG%
Good call on that Draymond game. I remember watching game 7 and thinking, "holy crap....the best player on the court right now is Draymond." Dude couldn't miss
