    Lovely video, Joe, thank you. My family moved to Swanage in the early 1960s & we used to walk up to Ballard Down via a treacherous path on the side of the cliff. Scared me half to death !!

      Thanks Judith. I can remember a few spots on the coast path from childhood that really wouldn't pass health and safety these days. We walked right over the top of Ballard down on our way back to Swanage. The views from up there are incredible but the climb as it seems you know is not for the faint hearted.

    Thank you so much for posting this walk I love Swanage but sadly can no longer walk far due to a back problem it was lovely to see this costal walk I have walked to Sir Harry rocks a long time ago but not this route thanks

      Jeannette you're welcome. Sorry to hear about your back problem but if you and others get pleasure from watching this then it's worth all the effort filming and editing it. If you took a different route to Old Harry then I'm guessing you must have gone over Ballard down. That's quite a walk in it's own right. Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment.

      It certainly is nice there. I particularly loved the end of the prom where the beach huts are. We were just coming out of the first lockdown at the time, we were able to get a pint of beer from beachfront bars and drink it on the beach. We felt so privileged to be able to do that.

    One of my favourite walks since childhood. It's just very sad that the wonderful Old Harry Rocks have disintegrated so much over recent years.

    • @JoeCoastal
      @JoeCoastal  2 роки тому

      I really enjoyed that walk. I'll be honest though, I've only visited Old Harry 4 or 5 times in the past so perhaps that's why I haven't noticed much deterioration. It still takes my breath away though.

    Your video's are getting so much better in a short time and the weather was back on your side. Stunning coastline as always and that's me all caught up now. I think sort stories on the main video and separate long stories as separate maybe but It's your channel you so what you want😁👍

      Thanks again mate. Thought id get some feedback on the stories thing. Apart from being good market research it also acts as an early trailer for what's to come on here. Having trouble with the research on that though so could be a while off yet. Take fella, speak soon.

    Great video. I'd love for you to add extra history and points of interest in.
    On your way down from old Harry to Studland you pass a small for fort Henry that was use to view training for d day and at one point had Churchill, Eisenhower and King George in on the same day reviewing preparation.

    • @JoeCoastal
      @JoeCoastal  4 місяці тому

      Is that Fort Henry?
      I filmed this about 3 years ago and back then only put little bits of history in. These days I do like to share a bit more of that.

    Swanage was my first trip to Dorset (from Cambridge) 3 yrs ago & I fell in ❤️ with the county.
    I knew absolutely nothing about Old Harry when I set my target on getting up that hill as it can't be seen from the angle of Swanage bay,...what a majestic surprise I got! It's a lovely walk 😀👍
    2021& I am in Weymouth & my fourth (to Dorset) after holidaying in Lulworth & Chesil with visits to Bournemouth, Durdle Door & Lyme Regis the last couple of yrs.
    Plan on heading further westwards to Devon next yr though Dorset will always be special to me.

    • @JoeCoastal
      @JoeCoastal  3 роки тому +1

      To be fair I had a bit of a moment the first time I visited Old Harry. I can't explain why. I'd already visited places like Dursley door a few times before, Stood at the top of the hill on portland looking back at the mainland, (recommended while you're in Weymouth.) on top of the golden cap, I'd even done lands end but for some reason old Harry touched me. Devon is amazing in it's own right so you'll enjoy that when you go. So is Cornwall if you want to add that to your wish list. I hope you enjoy Weymouth though, my favourite town in my favourite county.

      @@JoeCoastal I took up the Golden Cap challenge when I stayed @ the Chesil Beach Lodge last summer & took the coastal path through West Bay & Seatown. Took me all day to get there & back again but the view was worth the effort.
      My last day in Weymouth & back to Cambridge tomorrow 😕
      I had the intention of seeing Portland Bill lighthouse & although I kinda cheated & took the bus to Portland, (my sense of direction is not good!) I came across a few closed signs & diversions along the coastal path & did not find my target ☹️ It wasn't a complete bust though as the view overlooking Chesil was breathtaking & I also came across Tout Quarry along the way 👍

    • @JoeCoastal
      @JoeCoastal  3 роки тому +1

      @@andys8483 To be honest I think the best views from Portland are right there around the Tout quarry/Portland Heights area. Then again if you really want to see Portland bill and Pulpit rock then you'll just have to come back again lol. Have a safe journey home.

      Glad you enjoyed it mate. Yeah I'm always chilled out when I'm on the coast path 😄. I hope the music sequences are ok for you. There not edited to your standards I know. So story's of old in these vids or dedicated vids? I can't decide if it's worth a series of it's own. I thought tell a story whilst walking along the beach near where the story originates from. Would you watch that?

    Thank you for a beautiful video. As you say - what is not to love :-) My friend and I have walked the South West Coast Path from Westward Ho! to Penzance and this year we planned to cover the Lizard peninsula. But alas the Covid-19 had us cancel the walks for 2020. And we have rescheduled to June 2021, hoping it will be possible then. Instead I have done some walks here in Norway this summer, which is fine. But I look very much forward to walking the lovely coastal path of Southern England again :) Sorry, but I don't have any good smuggler stories for you :-) Happy walking. Subscribed :)

      Thanks. Finding your way shouldn't be too much trouble. The beauty of the Coast path is as long as you follow the coast you can't get too far off the path. I often go slightly wrong because I'm too busy looking for the next great shot to spot the signs but I always get back on track pretty easily. Thanks for watching and enjoy your trip to Swanage. I'm sure you'll love it.

    • @JoeCoastal

      Hi. Sorry for the late reply.
      Thanks for your email. I fully appreciate that my videos and channel could be better optimised to get more views and subscriptions and thank you for the offer of help with that. In truth though I think the one thing that has stopped it's growth more than anything is the lack of videos. To date I have put out 28. I suspect very few people have reached monetization in that number of videos. If i want "success" then i need to publish more frequently. I am planning to do just that now so we will see what happens. To be honest though, i doubt this is ever going to become a career for me and that's just fine. My judgement of "success" is when I get nice comments from the people who appreciate my work. If one day it pays me a little money for my efforts that would be nice. But it's not something I loose sleep over. Thanks again for taking the time to comment.
