Lyrics: [Verse 1] When I awake in the night to some old memory Darling don't touch the light just come over here with me And watch the world go away come as close as you can Let your soft skin erase any bad dream I've had [Chorus] And love me back to sleep again tonight you're all I need Put my mind at ease again and love me back to sleep [Verse 2] And when I toss and turn from another sad dream Darling don't say a word to let me know what you mean [Chorus][x2]
Thanks to Lady Jessi for recording my song. I remember the night at The Sound Emporium when it was recorded...and Ralph Moon on steel. I played the song once for Waylon & he said it'd be a great song for Jessi. Thank you Waylon & Jessi forever- Zack Van Arsdale
Thank you for this beautiful song, sung by the beautiful Jessi Colter. What a wonderful 33 year love story she shared with Waylon! In his 1996 autobiography, Waylon’s love for Jessi practically leaps off of many, many pages. I read that Waylon was approached to do this song, but he said that he thought Jessi would be perfect for it - and he was right.
They sure did. I remember in 1995 Waylon was given the CMA Living Legend Award. Waylon called Jessi onto the stage and handed the award to her. He said that he was not dedicating the award to her, but that he was giving it to her. Waylon went on to say that without Jessi, he was sure he would not have been alive to accept the honor.
For Peter .. thank you , for all , the nights , turning into days & days into nights you were there ,, when I was so far away , you kept me near ... you will always remain x
“That’s the Way a Cowboy Rocks and Rolls”. This was a disappointing Jessi Colter album, released in 1979 at a time when she needed a strong album to regain momentum after her beautiful (but ill-timed) Gospel album (‘Mirriam’) had tanked on the charts. This was the first album wherein Jessi wrote none of the songs herself. Her fans wanted her one-of-a-kind “sound”. The covers on this album were also poorly chosen for her unique style. “My Goodness” by Fritz and Oldham was the only awesome track. She needed to get away from country and become the pop chanteuse she always was. But from all reports she was more focused upon saving her marriage than pursuing a major career, at the time.
I found that very hard to believe they loved each other so much and Im sure since she was around in his drug days and didnt run she probably didnt run when he he was so sick and dieing
No, this is not true! It was a nasty rumor that was going around at the time. In fact, Waylon and Jessi had their best years together after he quit drugs in the mid 1980's. Waylon died unexpectedly in his sleep of complications of diabetes on February 13, 2002, while he was taking a nap at the Arizona home he and Jessi shared. The day after Waylon passed was Valentine's Day, and a grieving Jessi answered the door and received a large bouquet of roses that Waylon had ordered for her a couple days before. Jessi had written the beautiful song, "Storms Never Last", for Waylon when he was very ill in the 1970's. It had become "their" song, and they had always performed it as a duet. At Waylon's funeral, Jessi sang the song alone. Waylon and Jessi were married for 33 years. I suggest you read the book that Waylon's son, Terry Jennings, recently wrote about his dad. I believe the title is "Tales of my Outlaw Dad". It's a really great read, and will answer a lot of questions that you might have.

[Verse 1]
When I awake in the night to some old memory
Darling don't touch the light just come over here with me
And watch the world go away come as close as you can
Let your soft skin erase any bad dream I've had
[Chorus]
And love me back to sleep again tonight you're all I need
Put my mind at ease again and love me back to sleep
[Verse 2]
And when I toss and turn from another sad dream
Darling don't say a word to let me know what you mean
[Chorus][x2]

I had heard that Waylon and jessi had split up just prior to his death and she wasn't around when he was dying. Please tell me this wasn't true.
