I've never fixed anything on a car by myself before. I always feel so helpless and afraid to go to a mechanic. But thanks to you, I replaced the switch all by myself! Thank you so much for saving me money and boosting my car-fixing confidence :) I didn't have to remove the metal battery bracket either, my lady arms fit around it with only a few scratches lol. Now I just have to replace my upstream oxygen sensor and I'll be in good shape!
Thank you for taking the time to record your work! My D light started to blink in the last year but didn't seem to affect shifting nor did it set off check engine light. However, I've already ordered the sensor and will be replacing it this weekend!
@@ricardocarrasco4629 I replaced the pressure switch with the part from the video by clicking the link below about 1 week ago. Afterwards, I did a 3 quart transmission fluid change w/ Honda ATF and so far the light has stopped blinking. I've probably driven about 150 miles. Seems to have worked! I went thru the driver side wheel well, without taking off tire- just turned it to the left, removed the 2 fasteners and splash guard. It took 20 minutes.
I really apreciate what you explain here.. I had that problem and I went to a mechanic and what he told me was That I have to wait ntill transmission broke down to replace it...
Glad I found this I was about ready to take my Element to the dealer and see how much they would going to work me for to fix this ... I am sure there are a few good dealers but when the manager makes a bonus for sales its Neve tin the customers best interest.
Hey I went to AutoZone to get the part and the part I took off my car looks like the part you have, but both of theirs had two things in the middle and the lady ended up finding me the piece I needed, but it wasn't under the name third clutch transmission Oil pressure switch. It was just called the Oil pressure switch, but it looks just like it. Do you think I bought the wrong part? It has a lifetime warranty so I can take it back. I have a 2002 Honda CR-V
My 2003 CRV just started to have the Drive light "D" blinking when I put it in park... the car is parked but the D light blinks. I think it is the same issue as yours and just want to say thank you for sharing the video on UA-cam. I am going to get that switch replaced :)!
Great Video. I obtained the part from amazon as well and replaced it from underneath by partially removing the splash shield. It's easy to access this way. The only drawback is the risk of breaking and needing to replace some of those plastic clips holding the splash guard on.
Thank you, I was able to access the switch behind the driver front wheel and plastic cover just like Frieder Hafele below. after 5000k the blinking light has not come back. Before I found this video I changed the transmission fluid which needed to be done but did not fix the problem.
Hello...great great videos...Thank you! This is probably an obvious question, but I noticed in my 2004 Element that there's a so-called "flare" (slipping) between 2nd & 3rd gear (going into 3rd gear)...would I be looking at replacing the 3rd gear pressure switch or the 2nd gear switch? I'm assuming I need the switch for the gear that is being shifted into, in my case, 3rd gear...but doesn't hurt to double-check. Thanks!
Sorry J. I'm not the one to help you. I'm just a back yard mechanic who happened to find that there were no clear videos on how to fix this problem at the time that I posted this (I needed to fix my own car and thought I would share my experience). I'm guessing that the 3rd clutch switch does not necessarily affect 3rd gear. You may be barking up the tree sideways in getting your terms mixed up. Just guessing.
Great video .! My 2003 CRV have the same blinking D light started last week. I can feel the shifting gears is so bad and fuel consumption is bad. Ordered the parts from your link , hopefully received it soon and will fix the problem.
A much easier and faster way to get access to this pressure switch is: 1. Jack the car up and remove the front left wheel. 2. Detach the plastic cover, which is covers parts of the wheel well and the front bottom of the car just partly. 3. Bend this plastic cover carefully down to access the pressure switch from the wheel well, which is just behind.
Thanks for posting. Just wanted to add that I did not have to jack up my vehicle and remove tire. I turned wheel all the way to the left and there was easy access to remove the plastic cover and get to the pressure switch.
My original plan was to follow this video and go down from the top. The five bolts holding the battery tray on my Honda were a bit rusty. The top three were easy to remove but the bottom two turned into a big pain. I changed my mind and decided to remove the splash shield and go up from below. I busted a bunch of the push-pin clips as they were very brittle after being exposed to the elements for 17 years. I was able to find those clips very inexpensively here on Amazon. I also opted for a Honda OEM pressure switch instead of the aftermarket one mentioned in this video. Here are the links: www.amazon.com/Genuine-Honda-28610-RKE-004-Pressure-Sender/dp/B005AB0NGK/ref=sr_1_8?dchild=1&keywords=28610-RKE-004+Oil+Pressure+Sender+Switch&qid=1590454743&sr=8-8 www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07DN7RQX5/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
im pretty sure that the one i need..it was flashing D...but after i changed trans fluid it stopped flashing....but getting code P0845..the hinda dealer told me to take it off and bring it in..they have to order it...?? but i see it on amazon....should i get it on amazon...?
I don't know if you mentioned it in the video but those two lower bolts on the battery holder don't need to be taken all the way out. I learned that after losing some skin off my arms. They just need to be loosened and the metal bracket can slide right up.
what are the symptoms of a switch problem? I am having something like it doesn't know which gear to stay between 3rd and 4th gear at around 1500 -2000rpm... I believe it is this pressure switch problem... my car is a 2008 accord 3.5 aut... could you please help me?
Thanks for the video. The worse thing one can do when doing this job is cross threading the hole where the sensor goes. I have seen people doing that because they overtightened to the point of damaging threads. There should be a torque spec for that vehicle.
3rd Oil Pressure sensor Switch. you can get it on ebay for about 45 to 72 bucks, i got mine for 39 +7 shipping... www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odkw=2009+honda+crv+clutch+pressure+switch.%EF%BB%BF&_osacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p2045573.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.X2009+honda+crv+3rd+clutch+pressure+switch.%EF%BB%BF.TRS0&_nkw=2009+honda+crv+3rd+clutch+pressure+switch.%EF%BB%BF&_sacat=0
No need to remove the battery because you can easily access the switch from under the car by removing the plastic shroud under the front bumper. I started to do what you did by removing the battery and what a big waste of time not to mention the headache of having to reset the radio. So for anyone watching this video please don’t go this route and access from the bottom. You’ll not only save you knuckles but also tons of time.
Just got the part from this Amazon page, 29.99 and it broke in the first run, the one from Honda cost like 100 bucks, but it doesn't break... This is insane.
Thank you for the tips... I got the part from ebay and put it myself , but it was too hard through the battery , i went under, which is really easy. didn't have to take it apart all the way, just took out 4 natch and that bolt and get access to it..... thanks Sir. for your information, really save my friend some money :)... one ? tho, how can I get the engine light to go out.
Will you lose 3rd gear if you have this code and don't replace the pressure switch ? My parents 2003 crv has the intermittent blinking D and I got a P0845 code when I scanned it.
+Craig S As far as I know it will just have trouble shifting until you replace the switch. I don't believe there are any other long term effects for not taking action. Its possible I'm wrong though.
I have a 2004 honda accord cl7 my d light is flashing the code i get is p0848 3rd pressure switch curcuit B high is the Same that u change? If so i have change it an the light is still flashing giving the same code
I'm at auto parts store and there is a gray one or a green one the gray is like 60 bucks and the green one is like 200, anyone know which one I need for this same code
I called Honda dealer parts...the guy told me that i need sensor in front by radiator for $117........but yet i can see the video it is just below the trans dipstick.....i tend to trust the youtube teachers since U R actually doing the work.....my code reader says "P0845" ...(was flashing D) .. Book shows "3rd clutch trans fluid pressure switch" parts guy said that is(2nd not 3rd)...
Good video and well explained. I too have seen a couple of other videos on youtube and yes they changed the 2nd pressure switch which is why the old one had a green colar but they said not to worry. One question though. I have this same problem on my CRV. Would this affect the gear change and mood of the engine? I also noticed that I don't see or feel any difference when I I press the O/D OFF switch. Is this also due to the third pressure switch?
Hi, I have a 2003 CRV (with the blinking drive light, which I am now going to have a go at) and I can tell you that the O/D sets the gears to change at lower rev limit. When you toggle the O/D it will allow a higher rev to be reached before the gear change. I rarely use this, but have done a few times when I needed more 'oomph' when overtaking.
D light blinking does it cause any other issue or just the light, because I was driving and mi transmission started give me problems and then the D light started blinking, then I turned off my car and turned on again and light disappeared and transmission started working fine again, do you think is just the sensor?
Go to AutoZone or Advanced Auto Parts to read the code (it's free!) instead of wild guessing. As otherwise you may end up ordering the wrong part or doing the wrong service!
how important is it to replace this part I know to keep things tip top repairs are necessary but how long can it wait? What can happen if I let it go for a while?
Your video is an inspiration for us folks who get a little nervous about doing our own auto repair. Very nicely done. I have one question. I didn't see if you used the new washer when you installed the new switch. You probably did, but I want to be sure. You didn't just use the old washer, did you? Thanks again for your video.
The Frugal Berry thank you for the tutorial, can I assume the flashing D light will be the 3rd clutch pressure sensor fail? I have the same year car and I don't have the diagnosis tools. Cheers.
Excellent :), thank you for your response. I will go buy one (same as yours, from the provided link) and will get my hand dirty as soon as it is delivered.
Many thanks for your video. Today I repaired my Honda CRV 2004 D flashing issue. The new part from Honda dealer is 28610-RKE-004 (3rd Pressure Switch sensor), but wired for me is that no code inside, car D light will be flashing after some driving. I feel not very smooth, anyway I replaced it. After 50KM test driving, no that issue. It is not too easy remove battery bracket due to two screws below it.
GREAT VIDEO AND A VERY EASY FIX THAT ANYONE CAN DO AND SAVE A LOT OF MONEY BY DOING IT YOURSELF. NOW A DAYS IF YOU HAVE ANY CAR PROBLEMS YOU CAN GOOGLE IT AND FIND SOME HELPFUL VIDEOS ON UA-cam !!
+antonio tito This is the way it starts. It will likely come back again and get worse over the next few months if you don't replace the 3rd clutch pressure switch.
When I look up the 3rd clutch switch for my 03 Crv on Hondapartsnow I get a different part #28610-RKE-004?? 28610-Ray-013 is still available to purchase though.
Don't buy this cheap and junk part as it'll break sooner or later. I bought one and the plastic connector broke from the metal part a year later causing the flashing D problem. A Honda OEM part costs roughly $60 (28610-RKE-004).
Sorry But Thats Wrong U Can Do It All From The Bottom Of The CRV 3 GN All U Have To Get Is A Long Neddle Pliers And 7/8 Wrench U Dont Neet To Take Anything Nothing From The Top
Much easier to do from underneath ua-cam.com/video/CCFLMCGCILY/v-deo.html And I'm pretty sure it could also be done from the top without removing the battery & tray.

No. I havent a clue what the o/d does. I've used it but dont see any difference

This is the way it starts. It will likely come back again and get worse over the next few months if you don't replace the 3rd clutch pressure switch.
Honda could have made the battery bracket mount a little easier to remove :(...
Sigh just changed the sensor and the d started flashing again on me
28610-RAY-013, is the correct part - 3rd Clutch Pressure Switch for 02-04 CRV
Can confirm that after a month this has resolved my issue and my car is shifting smoother and quicker. Now I need to replace the other switchs.
Where did you buy it?
When I look up the 3rd clutch switch for my 03 Crv on Hondapartsnow I get a different part #28610-RKE-004?? 28610-Ray-013 is still available to purchase though.
Drinking game! Every time he says "uh" or "um" take a shot!
Don't buy this cheap and junk part as it'll break sooner or later. I bought one and the plastic connector broke from the metal part a year later causing the flashing D problem. A Honda OEM part costs roughly $60 (28610-RKE-004).
The 2005-2006 autos were less troublesome .......
Ive had the parts to replace this but damn its such a pain to yank out that battery plate and replace this. T_T
If that part was OEM it would have come with washer separately. That’s a knockoff.
Sorry But Thats Wrong U Can Do It All From The Bottom Of The CRV 3 GN All U Have To Get Is A Long Neddle Pliers And 7/8 Wrench U Dont Neet To Take Anything Nothing From The Top
Much easier to do from underneath ua-cam.com/video/CCFLMCGCILY/v-deo.html
And I'm pretty sure it could also be done from the top without removing the battery & tray.
D Light continues to flash even after replacing part. Should I flush transmission fluid as well?
I doubt a fluid flush will help things. Did you do an error code reset on the computer? If so, I would try it again. Otherwise, no suggestions. Sorry.
