- With countless people working out of their homes, does it really matter WHERE they live? According to Tulsa, Oklahoma, no! The city of 400,000 that has plenty of hip coffee shops, bustling bars, and a thriving arts district also wants more telecommuters, and is willing to pay you $10,000 to relocate there. Conor Knighton talks with people who have picked up and moved to the Sooner State after signing up for the Tulsa Remote program.

This just reminds me of Chandler from Friends when he had to move to Tulsa lol
Hahahaha
this is smart for now. get in on the ground floor. be sure to buy a home with a nado shelter and have insurance
If you can work from anywhere, why have a house at all? I moved out of the USA for a while and just travel while working. If you can work from anywhere, at least pick a no tax state like Florida, Texas, North Dakota or Washington.
How can I travel and work??
Chandler's working there now
Omg I live in Tulsa, Oklahoma

Tulsa does have a lot to offer for people of all ages. You should come visit us before you make the move to Tulsa. You can buy a 2,000 sq. ft. house for what you pay for a one room apartment (a sleeping room) in New York.
Yea, but it’s NYC..the center of the universe
It may be cheap to live there but the crime level is high. It's high is NY as well but still. If I'm moving anywhere if I had the money I'd be out of this Country so fast.
@@neogigo yeah , but the center of the universe can grind

I love Tulsa. Went to school there and had my first adult job there. I at one time. - hoped to retire there. The Red State craziness turns me off.
Michael Bruchas I’ve never been to Tulsa or Oklahoma, what specifically is so crazy that turned you off?
@@66gtb He referred to red state craziness. One can assume from that a war on women's freedom to choose, obsession with guns, demonizing of LGBT folks and hostility toward people having healthcare. That's an environment where a very specific type of person is going to feel most comfortable. When you live in a state you pay taxes that support the priorities of that state.
@@FirstHillSeattle I'm appalled that you've assumed Michael's gender :)
You gave MSNBC talking points while I was asking for something "specific."
@@66gtb Guilty! Ok....understood. I wasn't trying to speak for anyone, but I'm sure you can agree that different states suit different political views and lifestyle choices. But those will be vary based on the individual. And I like Rachael Maddow so lay off! lol
CaliforniaHuman Yes, I agree about the different states generally. I was/am curious if Michael’s opinion of Tulsa’s red-state craziness was born from actual events or just a general feeling from watching too much MSNBC. And for the record, I’m Libertarian and see the too much MSNBC and FOX News people as two sides of the same crazy coin...generally.
I would love to see a follow up on those who were accepted. How do they like their move?
OK has a state income tax. But compared to TX property taxes are MUCH lower. I may move there.
Texas has no state income tax. Oklahoma is stingy about giving veterans benefits. I live I should know. In Texas I would be doing a lot better.
@@raquelalhaqab5994 Not if you own property and see your tax bill go up $1000 every year. You'd be singing a different tune. Own some property down here first and then let me know if you feel the same.

Any work from home jobs that offer a living wage (30s or higher) AND comprehensive health insurance? I haven't found one yet, but I really need such an opportunity. Open work plans and harsh lighting and people's scents demolish my ability to concentrate. My medical expenses make freelancing or working for under a living wage or without health insurance not possible.

Tornado alley. That scares me.
Roger Whiting Meteorologists have determined that tornado alley has been shifting east. I’m at Tulsa native. I can say there are much less tornadoes than there used to be. Haven’t been highly destructive tornadoes in many, many decades.
@@mdwfmom good to know. My brother used to live somewhere in Oklahoma and he hated it. Every part of the country has its downside.
There are so many cities that are in the rust belt just crying out for renovation and for people to move in and take back neighborhoods this would be a wonderful trend and it would move people away from high stress areas that your Southern California Nevada Arizona where is way too populated based on what resources they have available especially water
I think the money would have been better spent on local people. When I worked for 211 I regularly spoke to people who got hired for remote jobs but needed help upgrading their internet access or their computer. Also, can we please get a news story about our state without referencing the musical? That trope is a dead horse that had been turned to ground meat and served at a French restaurant.
And for those who don't know, 211 is a free call from any phone and they can help connect you to social services and government programs.
I think it will be interesting to see the long term affect of remote working on salaries. Right now you can get a job in San Francisco but live in Tulsa (or somewhere else that is much cheaper). So you get a San Francisco salary but have Tulsa cost of living. I wonder how long it will be before companies adjust and realize that they can pay a remote worker a lower salary adjusted to where they live. If that happens then remote working won't be as attractive.
Some companies are already starting to doing this.
It won't happen soon. Remote workers have such a wide range of choice (literally anywhere) that there's less bargaining power on the employer side.
Well, they've realized it now for sure
Take it internationally.
Tulsa Remote does nothing for Tulsa people.
Exactly. There is something sinister with that Kaiser Foundation.
Yep
They're counting on some of these people eventually quitting their stay at home long distance jobs and putting their skills into local jobs plus high income tax earners.
Really? They aren't new customers for local, independent businesses?
Lol. It brings on people with income and jobs and a new tax base that can spend money in Tulsa of which Tulsa doesn't have its own employment need base to attract people in in the first place. People spending money, paying taxes, and bringing noteriety into the city.
So many negative comments from miserable people about Tulsa. First and for most if you haven’t even been to Tulsa or Oklahoma then you don’t have any thing valid to say. With lots of trees, rolling hills, lakes, Arkansas river, booming development all around and a thriving downtown I don’t get why you can’t like living here in Tulsa. It’s really not that bad
Plz go live somewhere outside the south.. and then you’ll see
neogigo I’ve lived in LA and Washington state. My point remains the same.
Adam Ingram 👍🏻 props to you, but some us out had to get out of there..
@@neogigo The problem with living somewhere more "exciting" is that you better love it because you can't necessarily afford to do much else. I grew up in Columbus, Ohio but have lived in NYC, LA and now San Francisco. I have a good job and am somewhat comfortable, but I don't have a lifestyle anywhere near some of my friends in Columbus who paid off their homes by the time they were 40, drive nice cars and travel the world on vacation. I'm stuck with my $6000 mortgage on a small condo and staycations for the most part. Different lifestyles. Sometimes i think it might be worth going back to Columbus or somewhere like Tulsa.

Owasso, Jenks, Broken Arrow, Bixby etc. You don't have to live in Tulsa to work in Tulsa. Plus these candidates would most likely be living in South Tulsa or Tulsa Hills anyways so they wouldn't have to worry about. They wouldn't be moving to East or North Tulsa.

California has infested Arizona, Colorado and is now working on Texas. We don't need that here.

Its not that great
Before anyone goes rushing to Oklahoma, please remember that Oklahoma is not known for spending much on education. Teacher strikes, poor pay, and low teacher retention make this town affordable but not necessarily optimal for families. Keep that in mind as you consider this state. Or at least demand better funding for education.
he was onlyyy 24 hours from Tulsaaaaaa

Yeah work in Tulsa and live near it. It ain’t all that great. Crime is on the rise. Roads are crap and so is public transport. There is always construction blocking major interstates that never seem to fix or achieve anything. Only good thing we got is strong beer, medical weed, and open carry when licensed.
Matthew Hendrix now that I know you can carry a fire arm there I will definitely not be coming to your city.
Matthew Hendrix open carry is not appealing to many of us. Lol With all of these crazy shootings happening daily, that's an incentive to NOT want to move there. 😂😂
Do people misuse guns after having too much strong beer and or weed?
Busses actually stop at stops and run more than twice an hour? That beats #Sacramento the capital of California aka one of the world's largest economies -for the rich
Strong beer? Oklahoma is beer limited to 3.2% outside of liquor stores last I knew. My uncle goes across the border to MO or AR for his beer sometimes because of this, unless they changed it.

Yeah, but outside of big cities, you lose diversity, culture, food scene, and ambition. Sure, you might have small pockets of that in small cities, but it's nothing compared to the sheer amount of it in places like NYC, LA, and SF. It gets old in small cities in the middle of the country. I should know, I've lived my first 28 years of life in Ohio and Illinois. My life didn't really begin until I loved to NYC in 2008.
You wouldn't be saying that if you were in NYC the first 28 years of your life. Thats why this guy switched it up. I'm from SF and I've been here my whole life. The rent is expensive and the hustle and bustle is getting old. Mind you, a house would cost a minimum of $800,000 so I have to ask myself, do I want the culture, food scene and diversity at that cost? The ambition is already there and will continue to be there, only, my surroundings won't have as must which I understand.

I'll take small city any day over NYC, Houston...

NYC or SF and you move to Tulsa.... Just to afford a house? People you need to do your homework. Just the grand lack of infrastructure and industry alone is enough to make anyone who knows how to build and grow a company pause. Austin, I get but seriously people know what you are getting into before you make a move like this..... And yes, I know what I am talking about as I grew up there during the good years then watched it fall to pieces by poor city management, lack of funding, and the migration from down town to the south. Before jumping face first into an empty swimming pool take a look at what the community is like. Poor schools, an over population of churches, one of the most racist states in the country, statistically one of the lowest education rate in the country, etc... Hiring to grow a tech business? Good luck finding local talent. You want to raise a family and educate your kids in Tulsa........? Do your homework.
How about this elderly woman who just had a retired Televangelist makeup artist do her face up, then only to have a wardrobe assistant cut up her old dirty wrinkly sheet to wear as a top. Little did she know as she said "supposedly trendy cities" everyone watching this clip would smirk in a doubtful way that she has any idea what she is talking about. I'm certain this woman is educated and savvy about a plethora of things, just not this.
