Seriously, complaining about a flexible hose that doesn't work with a sprinkler? Doesn't take much understanding about water pressure to figure that one out.
A commercial grade rubber hose will last 25 years of regular use. Bulky and heavy..yes, but will deliver the volume of water for any need. My experience with the expanding and the spiral metal hoses is that you're lucky if you get 1 year of regular use from them, and the inner diameter is too small for many situations.
I have rubber hoses that are almost 20 years old and work fine. Once done watering, make sure you relieve the pressure inside the hose. Otherwise, a hot hose sitting in the sun will expand and split, or crack.
So what's your point? Are you calling the gentleman a liar? I know of a lot of poor people who purchased one of them and say the same thing about it not working.
Must just be a certain manufacturer because I have two of the shrinking hoses and both work perfectly with all attachments. Couldn't be happier with them.
Or certain countries of origin. Personally speaking, I shy away from anything made in China & don't really care if the item in question is an electronic or not. Chinese products being crap seems likely across the board, why chance it?
@@alysdexia This is the third summer for one and the fourth the other. They're both the type with the brass fittings at each end, not the cheap plastic fittings. It is VERY important to get them inside before the first frost in the fall as freezing kills them almost 100% of the time.
I have brought 3 of these over a short period of time, n they ALL burst or either got holes , I was VERY careful when I used them, They NEVER last long, WASTE of money, I,m going to try the new Coil hose, Hope that works !!
The problem with these hozes is that when the nozzle is closed and you open the tap, the hoze expands perfectly and looks like you'll be getting good water pressure. However, as soon as you open the nozzle the hoze's shape collapses and retracts considerably. So not only do you lose the working length of hoze, you lose perhaps over half the potential water pressure. They're clearly not adequate for their intended purpose.
That isn't the problem that all of us is happening because I know exactly what you are talking about. I still got great water pressure from my hose All Summer Long, even with the pressure being a tiny bit inconsistent because of this that you mentioned, all of a sudden now there's barely any pressure going through it at all where before I was getting just as much pressure from this thing as the old normal rubber and plastic hose I was using before.
@@A_Lion_In_The_Sun If you have more than a plant or two, you'll want to water them *with a sprinkler* instead of standing out there in the 90F piddling around trying to do one at a time!
I have had some that lasted, some didn't. It's best not to 1) step on them and 2) as you have indicated turn off the water at the spigot when you are finished and spray out the water in the hose. I'd still rather buy a new hose for $30 or so every 4-5 years than deal with the heavy, bulky hoses that are terrible to wind up and store.
I work in a Hardware store and sell a LOT of these hoses. They're utter garbage but people over the age of 60 just can't stop buying them for some reason. Some of our customers go thru 3 or 4 hoses a year.
When we sell them (different brand) we always recommend the following: don't leave them pressurized, don't leave them sitting in the sun, they are for light use, and to extend their life install a pressure reducer before the hose.

My mom bought one a few years back, and the fabric that covers it tore after being on the concrete in our backyard. Underneath it was a flimsy clear plastic tube so yes, it's a waste of money.
I bought a couple on sale years ago and they both failed about two feet from the spigot after just two weeks of use. They weren’t left in the sun, and the water pressure was not left on. They were drained and stored in the shed after use. Another as seen on TV junk. Thanks a lot Richard Karn.
These hoses truely shine with a well system. They are a lifesaver when using them in the snow to fill the animals water. Definitely a must have for farm owners
Get a zero G hose. It doesnt automatically retract but it is very light and durable. Never had a problem from the one I bought. Runs sprinklers and works with pressure washers perfectly fine.
Same here, Zero G. It doesn't collapse all that much but when drained properly coils up much easier than a conventional rubber or plastic rigid hose. I'll never go back to conventional hoses.
I've gotten one of these and you have to be very gentle with them You can't just be pulling on them and things like that You also need to use cold water no hot water running through them and you're not supposed to leave them outside in the sun anybody who's having problems with them probably did not avoid any of these and did not do with the instructions told them to I've had a few of these over the years They work perfectly fine if you know how to use them properly and how to put them away and everything
A customer of mine had one, and sods law, it broke within a day of me using it. Bought one myself recently, granted it was cheap, but the water pressure meant it just popped off of the quick connect tap connector. I am tempted to buy a more expensive one, but dubious about them. Since then I have paid for better quality ones, and they are great, you just have to be extra careful with them and make sure you do not stand on them too much.
I had one for a few years. It often took me almost 20 minutes to unkink it for use. On top of that, it eventually burst one day. Even before it burst I wanted to replace it. I just hated it. I went back to a rubber hose and I've been happy ever since.
I bought one for a family member it lasted about 5weeks it was bought from asda the very friendly and helpful staff said they are rubbish and had loads of returns and complaints so they sold them all reduced to about £7 from around £20 because they where crap lol😂

The second time we put water through it, one section clogged and the inner layer of the hose filled up, ripping through the outer skin in the process. I shut it off just before it could burst. That was definitely a waste of money! We got a different expandable hose many years later and it has held up much better. If I recall correctly, we still have it.

These types of hoses have been offered for sale in the UK for quite a while, and we're a nation of *very* keen gardeners. I have only seen about one or two of them in gardens around here, which suggests to me the overall design probably doesn't meet the standard expected by British consumers.
