  • Litchfield Connecticut and the beautiful St Michael's Church, on South Road, I took the opportunity to visit Litchfield a few weeks ago with my good friend Bill Balch, we had a great day shooting the beautiful buildings, being quite close to the Church and using a very wide lens did create some degree of perspective distortion, which I will correct in the Video. I hope you enjoy the video !
    I have been using a rather special filter with a variable ND, and a Polariser has been built into a single attachment. the filter does not exhibit any colour hue, it is true in its colour rendition, which is the first I have found, see the link below for details. Freewell V2 Hybrid Filter System:- www.freewellge...
    Remember to purchase a suitable adapter ring to allow the 82mm filter to fit your lens

    Jamie, I so enjoyed our trip to Litchfield CT and to discover this handsome church. As always, you have succeeded in making a beautiful fine art photo and have left a tutorial on how you achieved it. Many photographers are learning things from your unique methods. Thanks for your willingness to share.

    Lightening and darkening areas, plus adding contrast, turn a 2-dimensional photo into a 3-dimensional photo. It really makes the photo, black and white and color, jump out. I like both color and black and white about the same. The color version has a mysterious look to me. The black and white has a dynamic look to me. A valuable video. Thanks!

      It is a real balance between trying to get everything perfect and not going on for more than an hour 😀 If I do an edit that will be sold or used for public display, I can take as long as 4-6 hours to complete the edit. Doing UA-cam videos is fun, but it is also a compromise 😀

    If you set the stamp tool to darken, you won't accidentally erase any of your subject. Also you don't need to be nearly as precise in removing the halo.

    Another interesting video Jamie. I shoot and develop a lot of black and white film, I have Silver FX , will the adjustments still work on digitized black and white images. Love watching your videos, always inspirational. Look forward to many more.

    • @jamiermathlin
      @jamiermathlin  Місяць тому

      Yes, it will still work on digital film images, however, the real impact comes from sending a colour image to Silver Efex Pro, as you have the colour contrast to play with as well as the grey scale !

    Great walkthrough, Jamie, as usual. I really appreciate for thinking aloud during the process 😇it really makes a difference from viewer's perspective.
    I am just curious - you didn't sharpened the image, right? Any particular reason?
    It is usually a part of my process (at a final stage of editing) to sharpen certain areas of the image and instead of using sharpening tools in Lightroom classic, I use external tool, Topaz Photo AI - it does a wonderful job.

    • @jamiermathlin
      @jamiermathlin  Місяць тому +1

      Lightroom defaults to 20% sharpening, so generally once I have added clarity and some texture, the image is sharp enough. Sometimes additional sharpening can be helpful, but generally, I do not add more. I find the images from my Canon R5 (when taken correctly) are extremely sharp anyway 😀

    Perspective Crop in Photoshop is the best way correct the distortion inherent in wide angle lenses without the shift/tilt mechanism.

    Watched a video the other day who had a tip where select sky affects the top edges of the foreground, eg. tops of mountains, that you possibly don't want. So "if you select sky, then intersect the mask with the Sky" it solves the problem.
    Rediculous, but hey that is editing sometimes.
