It is just a rescinded goku black. And storyline-wise it makes sense. Gohan fought hit instead of Goku (which was what the U6 Supreme kai and zamasu were watching together), and Gohan fought Zamasu instead of Goku.
Wasn’t that crazy to me compared to how people were hyping it up. Gohan beating Frieza and tapping back into Ultimate was more cool than reskinned Goku Black
I really like the Gohan what if, but they really should have saved it for after Beast was released. If he goes Beast while Black/Zamasu tell him what happened to Pan and Videl it would've been insane.
I was thinking the same thing when playing through, it felt he was about to transform in that moment but since ugohan is the strongest in this version he doesn't. I still think the what if was very good though.
Eh, Goku didn’t transform either, so I think they were just sticking with the canon, even though it didn’t make sense lol. They want to keep the transformations for things that happen in the character’s vision
They cooked hard with Gohan Black, I think it provides a lot more psychological conflict for Future Trunks. I'm saying the obvious, but what a concept for the man Trunks idolized and respected to now be the strongest singular threat to his family and happiness

Guys, xbox online doesn't work and hasn't been since early access started, I'm only sharing this to gain traction since I've seen no youtubers in the community mentioning it, it's on reddit and IG and stuff but no one that actually has an impact has mentioned this, like it's broken completely all modes
They BETTER, im pissed that they made all that but didnt put through the tiny bit of effort in to give us the damn character, thats what mods are for i guess. They cant ever fail me

I got a theory why Gohan Black didn't go Rose. In the past, Zamasu saw Goku going ss blue and quickly adapted to it in the anime/manga. But, in here, Gohan doesn't have that form which cost Zamasu to tap in to Gohan's ultimate form but with th aura of a kai. Which is why, this version of Zamasu is wiser cause he is not in Goku's body and knows more than what he did originally. Similar to when Super Buu absorbed Gotenks AND Piccolo, giving him the brains from Piccolo
I think the Gohan Black was WAY better than the anime and manga versions of the Goku Black arc, in my opinion. Not only this made Gohan a more pragmatic character, actively preparing for the worst at the first chance he got rather than taking Beerus’s word at face value about the erasure of Zamasu like the anime, but not only did he learn the Evil Containment Wave, but actually succeeded in using the technique, which was the key factor to victory and actually saving Trunks’s timeline, saving us from another garbage, meaningless ending! This also doesn’t undermine Trunks’s theme; that together, mortals can overcome difficult odds, even if said obstacles are gods, but Zamasu almost merging with the universe, and needing Grand Zeno(the God of Gods) coming in and erasing everything, including Trunks’s home, just takes a dump on all that and made the entire arc pointless!

What’s sad about those Gohan what-ifs is that they’re all much better than the canon story. Especially the Gohan Black arc. Sure, we still have an ignorant villain with a dumb motive, but at least he’s actually defeated, there are no retcons, and Gohan doesn’t make any of the embarrassing mistakes Goku made in the canon arc.
This is probably my favorite storyline wish he was playable though! Hopefully they add a beast gohan what if or another piccolo what if extension the possibilities are endless!

It took me quite a bit to unlock this what if (Frieza was aggravating) but the Gohan Black What if was totally worth it.
