- Most Tokyo day-trippers head to Kyoto or Mount Fuji, but there's a third option you may end up preferring! In this video I'll show you around the mountain town of Nikko, packed with World Heritage sites and local treats. I'll explain which trains to take from Tokyo and the best route whether you're holding a JR Pass or not, plus a bonus visit to Asakusa and a nearby cafe for a great coffee to get you started!

Great tips and footage. Thank you! Would love to see some more videos like this - I'll be there next February and really enjoyed and appreciate your information ❤
You're very welcome! I have some more videos from a recent trip to Japan coming very soon!
Thanks you, very clear direction to visit Nikko, I am going to visit Japan in this September (2024) i will visit Nikko.
You're very welcome! I absolutely loved it and will be returning this August. If you have a bit longer, consider also visiting the waterfalls. The bus can take you there.
I really enjoyed it. It reminded me our trip to Mt Fuji
Thanks! Our bus trip to the lakes actually got me thinking about making these! I'll need to do it again though for all the b roll!
Great video! Very informative and interesting! 🤗
Thankyou!
Nice!
Such cool and tall old buildings!
Thanks for watching!
Hurray! More travels with Gordon :)
Hope you enjoy it!
Good stuff👍👍
Thankyou!
Thank you so much for this informative video! I plan to visit Nikko soon. Do you happen to know if there's a train that goes from Nikko to Mt Fuji? That would be my next destination after I visit Nikko!
You're very welcome! I'm afraid there isn't a direct train route between them that I know of. You'd need to return to Tokyo. I recommend taking the bus from Shinjuku to Kawaguchi Go for Mount Fuji, as it's quicker than the train options and cheaper too. You go from the Long Distance Express Bus station in Shinjuku on top of the department store opposite the South exit. Try to buy the tickets in advance or you may have to wait a couple of hours for a seat. PS - Also consider visiting the waterfalls in Nikko on the tourist bus route. PS - look out for a new video from me soon about visiting Gotokuju Temple near Tokyo with all the Lucky Cats - it's really nice!
@@GordonsTravelTips Hi! Thank you so much for your reply! I will keep that in mind. One other question, is it possible to travel around Nikko without the Nikko pass (2/4 day pass) and just pay for buses individually to get around Nikko?
@@carollynntran I think you can pay separate fares, but I just walked everywhere to the sights in the video. You'd need transport to the waterfalls though. Thing is, you don't need to worry until you get there, as the tourist info by the station can tell you if you can buy single bus tickets. Please let me know how you get on, and if it is possible, thanks!
Nice to see this, however I must complain about the name Ieyasu that you (and other Brits) pronounce totally wrong. It’s not “Leyasu” but “Iyeyasu”.
Thanks for the correction, I'd never heard this spoken out, so tried my best. Is it only Brits who pronounce it wrong though?
@@GordonsTravelTips many of hosts of the channels that covered Tokugawa Ieyasu in one way or another had prononciation issues as can be expected but the British were often wrong making it Leyasu … No clue why though 😅
