- This narrow boat was sunk by Ditchford Lock, Northamptonshire after being caught by the strong current on the River Nene and hitting the barrier for the weir which then capsized it. here it is being recovered at the third attempt by the RCR River,Canal, Rescue.

Such a sad sight, this is somebody's pride and joy, hope nobody was injured x
Well done to the team that rescued a narrowboat the suggestion of a pulling it from a rope attached to the top of the boat which would’ve pulled over even though it should’ve been attached to the stern as low as possible thereby reducing the risk of tripping the boat over completely but well done And very sad
Oh my, that's a real nightmare. And it can happen so quickly!
Looks like it still has water in it!
The offset in balance is the ballast in the hull that has moved and the additional water onboard - the recovery is like a bad health and safety video - I hope nobody got hurt🙏
nice goin river canal rescue!
Pump gushes once at 4:15. It is quite a salvage crew that can not run a simple trash water pump. Probably clogged with no filter on the intake. I suspect these guys are pretty good….at farming…..or auto repair…..or something other than raising a sunken boat.
was it someones home? did you refit her or scrap her? hope no one was hurt!!
Once you get it up like this, all you need to do is bridge a 12 V car battery onto the bilge and let it finish off the water in the hull. These guys are trying their best to capsize it again being in a rush.
Bow line away from the lock boys and stern in at the lock end! Were the chuckle brothers in charge of this?
Looks like these guys don’t know what they are doing
That's why we see you down there helping them .right?
I would have pulled it up steam stern first past where I want to take it out. Then I would had moved it across the canal and nose in to the take out. Pull that broad side against the current almost swamped the thing. :)
Lifejackets?
looks like it wants to sink again every time they try to move it..lol
Have you pumped all the water out
third times a charm ;) gj
At first i gave them the benefit of the doubt, but man, those reflective jackets must kill brain cells.
Very sad to see this poor narrow boat disabled buy poor handling , your home almost disappeared into th3 depths so very sad when your whole worldly items are there sinking !
Way too many armchair critics here. Handling such a dead weight threa tening to sink and against a flood flow is far from simple and protecting those involved.
They were fighting the current, instead of using it to work with them. If there had been some waves and wind, there might have been lives lost.
Been boating over 30 years and have done this stuff before. There is such a thing as listening to the older guys because this isn't the first time its been done. You don't have this lean and capsize problem if you properly bilge the water first. Like I said earlier, don't get in a hurry and do it right. And lets not forget they turned it ass end into the current, so they hull hydrodynamics is tossed out the door.
re: terenfro What does "bilge the water"mean? That term is not used among American seamen. Can I assume you mean pumping the bilges? If so, I agree. The water in that boat has as much mass as the boat itself
I may be an arm chair critic with absolutely no knowledge of water recovery techniques, however even someone without the supposedly requisite knowledge can tell just by looking that pulling a point above the center of balance is not a good idea. At some point they should have shifted or added a connection at or below the center of balance like say at the gunwale
.
Rename boat to Titanic Two or Can of Worms -
who wants to buy that now lol
Very poor show, extremely lucky they didn't capsize it completely. You should have got some professional help or at least somebody who knows what they are doing
High viz jackets in case they get run over by a pushbike...sheeeez.
Where are the Indians....?
Brits love that hi-vis shit
Look like a bunch of amateurs!
How would you become an expert at narrow boat recovery? They can't get that much practice.
@@iflick7235 good point, but general boat handling skills would come into play here. There appeared to be no plan, just make it up on the fly, and where in any risk assessment would you say that you'd use people as ballast on a partially flooded boat? That water could shift and pitch those guys into the river in a flash.
@@YellowPinkie ..and that was the third attempt. Nor could I see the pumps actually pumping any water out!!
@@YellowPinkie It's not a river. It's a canal. There is a significant difference.
@@jonathanwilson8951 it is the RIVER Nene, so it is a river. It's a canalised river so it's kinda like a canal with some flow. That makes it harder, but I really don't understand the point you're trying to make.
Sad but it looks like a clown show. First though is that this crew ought to be much better at this than the vid shows.
i bet people say the same thing when watching you work, eh sunshine?
sorry stop being so flippant thats someones home ! what are you laughing at ? its close to sinking !
