We do use helicopters of same size as Canada on our frigates and destroyers they are the Merlin’s in Canada they are cormorant T45 uses a 48 cell VLS with space for 16 more cells if required the main weapon is sea ceptor T23 has a 32 cell VLS which is double the capacity of the Halifax also the main gun on a T23 is 4.5inch as opposed to the 3in on Halifax’s Azi pods can be used on any size vessels indeed the bay and Canberra classes use them The hunts use a voith schnider system The victoria class submarine ex upholder class they were cheap because Canada didn’t want them refitted in the UK and handed them off to their own yards which had no experience refitting this particular type hence the problems The Royal Navy is looking to expand the fleet with new frigates and royal fleet auxiliary vessels plus the T45 replacement
The frigates are being built in Canada and Australia. Not sure about the Canadian shipyard but the Australian yard is a subsidiary of BAE Systems@@EnglishScripter
Both Canada and Australia are adding significantly more area air defence capability to the design. Both are still referring to it as a frigate, but it will be larger than any destroyer either has ever operated and have capability (if not capacity) similar to many modern air defence destroyers.
HMS Diamond has Aster 30 capable of hitting targets 120km away. HMS Richmond's Sea Ceptor has a range of approx 30 miles. The Type 45's are the most capable anti-air warship platform in existence. A Type 45's radar can see over 400km and can track and classify over 2,000 targets travelling at mach 3 the size of a golf ball. The importance of being able to track something showing the size of a golf ball at extreme range refers to detection aka a stealth fighter (showing up with a very small radar signature). The 4.5 gun discussed at around the 13 minute mark is primarily for NGS (Naval Gunfire Support) but can shoot at other ships, air targets etc. The Missile silo design is more effective in saturation type of attacks as having to turn to shoot isn't workable in those situations. The Royal Navy found this out during the Falkland's war when ships were getting swamped by fighters. The Archer class ships are pure training ships.
The Royal Marine Commandos are Special Forces in the UK. Like the Parachute Regiment. An Elite part of the Navy and Army respectively. Many of the Sas come from The Royal Marines and the Para's.
Yea sorry, the marine vs infantry comparison may be true for some military’s but definitely not for Royal Marines. The training is harder and longer by a significant amount, also the mission set is very very different. Royal Marines recently have moved more towards a SF role than an infantry role. The idea is that Royal Marines commandos will go behind enemy lines covertly to disrupt logistics and infrastructure. That is not normal infantry stuff.
Proud of the Navy but embarassed by the foolish position and actions of successive Canadian governments who stall increasing the size and capability of our Navy. The largest coastline in the world, the Northern Passage melting, and we have almost no capability to protect our shores!
RN vessel’s are modern or have been modernized over time and all frigates and destroyers also carry surface and subsurface warfare capable helicopters. Sadly the Canadian larger combat ships are going back to late 80s weapon systems, there is no comparison between HMCS and HMS even at class of vessel. Thankfully the type 26 and type 31 frigates Canada has ordered (from UK) will modernize them❤🇨🇦❤🇬🇧❤
Canada has become dependant on American protection and they flatly REFUSE to complying with the NATO AGREEMENT that nations should apply 2% of their GDP being for a consistent reserve fund to protect countries belonging to NATO. CANADA FULLY AGREED TO THIS MEASURE, BUT NOW FLATLY REFUSES TO COMPLY.
Well let's look at the Royal Marine Commando's for a start 3 commando brigade are all commando trained which is a standard above most regular infantry units and even the USMC marines will say as much themselves and they are the worlds primer Marine Corp in terms of size and resources. We the UK have a great working relationship with both American and Canada. However Canada Doesn't have anything like our Para's or Royal Marine Commando's at Brigade plus size that it can deploy. hell most of Europe doesn't bar maybe the French and Poland in the future
I will disagree with you on the Paras. The Canadian Para's are top notch, and I am told the new CSOR carries on in that tradition. But as I have said in the past, My first hand knowledge is 30 years old, so I am out of touch with much of today's military.
@@DarthTigger That was not the point I was making I was saying you don't have Elite Infantry at Brigade Plus size that you can deploy I was not knocking ability please re-read comment thank you

Yup, just heard the part - he said it 😑 So aside from many differences outside of simply how they arrive to battle; the royal marines have to do a much longer, harder training process than any other units in the forces (outside of the regiment). I think they even do a few weeks longer training than the paras.

Canada along with Australia are building Frigates based on the UK Type 26 design
I thought BAE is making them? And they are not just based on the type 26 design. They are the type 26 design, just with different weapons.
I think there is a proposal to extend the Australian Hunters to allow an additional Mk 41 VLS @@EnglishScripter

How you can say the only difference between a Royal Marine and a infantry land soldier is the transport to where they fight is so funny.

Point taken. I am coming at it from the point of reference that I had when I worked with the Royal Marines back in the early 90's
@@DarthTigger understandable. The RM we’re definitely more infantry focused in the 90’s and throughout the war on terror.

Type 23 HMS Richmond (F239) at the start of the video was one of my ships! 😃
Very cool!!!
Don't Forget all Nato Navy's are used to working together. Has a joint Force .Japan and Australia as well.
It's called the river class, because they're named after rivers.
I figured, it was just funny. :)
From a sailor, your comment "I am an infanteer so I can't talk intelligently on the situation" just about summed everything.. 🙂
Fun video, thanks!
Yeah Doesn't even know the Range of T24 Missiles........
Great video! Really enjoying your content!
Thanks so much!
The modcare going for a 24 des Frigate navy but can you believe them it probably work out at 6 45s 8 26s and 2 31s a total of 16 plus 2 carriers.

No argument there. The current size of our forces (all 3 branches) is embarrassing in the extreme.

Could be, with a ship in it.
It is possible. I could not place it.
There is no such thing as the British Roayl Navy. It is simply the Royal Navy.
By bad. I did that for the Search algorithm.

The Royal Marines are special forces on par with the Seals and are very different to the US marines.
