I have been running my house on a similar setup for about 3 years. My AIMS 48v 4kw inverter charger is supported with a nissan leaf battery bank, 2.3k of solar, and a troy-bilt 6250 generator. I'll be adding the aim 6k generator to help on rainy days.
@Gavin’s Garage Is there a cheaper product I can buy with the same functionality? A automatic on and off generator with inverter battery charger? These products you have cost more than my van.
@Gavin’s Garage I found your channel when searching for info on this particular generator and at 7:09 it clearly shows the engine number. This corresponds to what appears to be nearly identical models produced by Xingyue Group Co., Ltd in China and AIMS just added their auto-start to the front panel. I have been trying to find reviews on the generator engines to determine which, if any, are using a powerplant that is known to be reliable. Aside from Honda and Yamaha, are any of the portable inverter generators powered by engines that are known to be well manufactured, or have full pressure lubrication? The general population seems to be fixated on dB and weight, however if I'm spending several thousand I'd like something that would have some longevity. The Onan in my old RV was at 1700 hours and still going strong when it was sold so I was looking into Onan/Cummins inverter generators but was disappointed to find their p4500i is a rebranded Ducar D4000is which is also the same as the Westinghouse 4500i. I've seen a lot of reports of the newer engines on the cheaper (non Japanese inverter generators) not lasting anywhere close to 1500 hours. I'm guessing you've explored this a little, what are your thoughts?
The only generator I know that have forced lubrication and forced cooling with oil filter is a Genmax Forced air cooling and forced lubrication is the number one reason a generator will outlast the others That’s the number one reason Honda and Yamaha last so long Heat is the number one thing that kills generators they need to be forced to cooled.
@@GeneratorReviews thanks for the response, I'll look into those! Generac has it on some portables, but not their inverter models. Have you measured harmonic distortion from any conventional portables and found it to be acceptable?
if you were to do a review on their 6600, you would literally be the ONLY video on youtube covering that model. REALLY want to get one but with absolutely no reviews online anywhere, I am very skeptical . their 6600 has been out for at least 3 years and still no body has uploaded a single video (the only video we see for their 6600 is put out by AIMS themselves)
My input: Do lithium preferably LiFePO4. Also, I couldn't find any literature on the matter of the Amps/Voltage limitations of solar input for the unit???
If this is going into a mobile application I would go with LiFePO4 lithium batteries. If it is going to be static some decent quality AGM's is the way I would go. That said, with anything larger than a 2kW inverter I would go with at least 24VDC as the 12VDC current draw gets pretty insane.
@@GeneratorReviews maybe you can load test some of the battery powered generators too like the Bluetti 5500 and the Green Solar Machine with 12,000 watts of power
I have a question for you hopefully you can answer it..... So if I get a inverter generator, and I want to run 220v-240v items like from the UK, can I convert the unit to support it. I have been trying to find information about but nothing really stands out. I hope you understand.
Hi Dameion Unfortunately not because in the USA it’s 240v 60 hz but you could use as transformer to get it to the correct power 230v 50 hz for Europe power spec.
Do you know of any stand alone inverters to add to a standard generator for clean AC power? Or are you better off just buying a new generator. I have a westinghouse 7500 and it's only a year old, wish I had known about dirty and clean power before hand.
Sorry to say but you’re better off buying a new generator. If you’re going to add a sine wave inverter You’re not gonna get the benefit of eco-mode ultra quiet operations and your generator won’t have to run as hard, only running hard when it needs to match the power output
Nice setup but couldn't help but notice some brown spots in that beautiful lawn of yours. Did a neighbor get mad because of all the generators making noise and send in the dogs to punish you? 🤣
I own this generator with 550 hrs and It has been nothing but problems. There are no spare parts. Best advice I can offer someone, look for a generator parts available to order before deciding on the generator.
AMG it because most use it for a bigger bang for the buck! Did I miss how you can connect the inverter to the generator to start automatically? I know you can hardwire a plug to most inverter(s). But an inverter starting a generator? That typically happens when generators are connected to the grid system.
Yep! This one can connect to the generator and start it without connecting to the grid. You can also program it to run off generator primary or secondary meaning that it would come on charge the battery to a percentage you choose then shut off I’m going to get into more detail in the next video can’t release everything video will be too long

Thanks I will do it

There isn’t any solar input for this unit it, has to be a separate solar charge controller connected directly to the battery.

Yep I got 12v for the Rv but I prefer 48v for home backup like you said the draw is insane.
I think Aims has stepped up their game lately as their inverters from the past were questionable.
Will thus keep your air conditioner running and shut on and off automatically? (I am new to RVing!)
It can be with a large battery bank
I was hoping to see the aims 6600 watt generator to see if that generator was gonna hold a load of 4800 to 5000 watts
