    Good one. I figured the slots for the tabs had something to do with removing the cover, but much better to confirm before bodging something up. Now I can proceed with confidence. Thanks

    I had the exact same shifters as stock equipment on my Dahon Vitesse folding bike. I've since replaced the whole drivetrain with Tiagra 4600 parts and trigger shifters, but this is still a good peek at how to replace the cables. The only real downside of the SL-RS35 is the rubber collar that surrounds the grip shift - when it gets old it tends to move on its own and not mesh with the shifter any more.

    Stainless gear and brake cables are preferable to galvanised, especially if they may get exposed to road salt and my favourite cables are Jagwire Slick, they are noticeably smoother if you run a finger along them, and run smoother in use.

    • @RJTheBikeGuy
      @RJTheBikeGuy  8 років тому

      You can try taking it apart, I am more familiar with SRAM GripShift shifters. They have a small plastic or metal ratchet part. These may have something similar. But if it is broken, it is broken. I doubt you can find a replacement. But maybe it just slipped or something. Worth a shot if the alternative is replacement anyway. Personally I like GripShift shifters of Revoshift shifters. Better yet, I like trigger shifters over twist shifters.

    Hello
    I have a revoshifter but I find it very stiff when I’m going from gear 7 to gear 1
    Is it the design of the shifter that I have to go one by one (for example 7-6-5 etc up to 1) or I have a flaw in it?
    Now if I am on 7 and if want to go to 3 it’s very very stiff, I have to go gradually before I reach upper gears

      If you really want to replace the inner wire without cutting it (although I don't know why you would) it's just a matter of undoing the binder bolt on whichever derailleur it goes to and pulling it through the shifter. But RJ is correct. The inner wires will stretch over time and should be replaced periodically.
