    Excellent vid as ever , wonderful finds along the way .Never fails to amaze me the effort they put into building stunning structures to resolve the simplest of issues .
    The farm track wit the two damaged bridges I would guess has been damaged by the farmer travelling along the track .
    Did watch this when it was released on YT but just watched again .
    Looking forward to your next escapade .

      Thanks for watching and your kind comments. It was such an over engineered railway I think it was always planned to be expanded in the future but those days sadly never happened. Thanks again 👍

    Great video Middy
    This is my neck of the woods so I know it quite well, it’s slowly disappearing as time passes so it’s good to watch your video. I can tell you that between the M6 and the Newton bridge, there was another bridge called Bromwich bridge about where you were standing asking if anyone knew what that brickwork was. Bromwich Bridge was just a over bridge for cattle and sheep. It was demolished completely in 1969 when work started on the New M6.

    Great video and thank you for sharing. Can't believe the amount of trees that are growing on the bridges and will no doubt make them redundant with the structural damage that will be caused.
    Maybe an opportunity for someone with a chainsaw to obtain some free wood and preserving some of our heritage at the same time

      Thank you I am glad you enjoyed it. The opening shot was too good not to use!! I am the same, the fact they still look so good after all this time is a r5eal credit to the generation that built them. Hopefully now back to strength and more GCR (and others!) to follow. Thanks for your support!

    You`ve done it again Middy that was fantastic.What a great way to start the new year and Happy New Year to you and your wife Sam and not forgetting Daisy,your lovely Westie.We used to have a westie when we lived in England in Derby. So, I was just wondering if there is anything left of Derby Friargate station? I remember that the bridge was still there that passed over the road,but as regards the actual station,I`m not sure.There was also a big goods shed yard and a small loco shed along Slack Lane,but that is probably long gone.Anyway,I`d be most greatful if you could explore around Derby Friargate some time in the future as it would remind me of my younger days,now living in Australia.

    i live in shawell. there is a footpath near shawell manner that leads into fields towards the quarry . you will see the railway line again and can follow it to see a few more bridges . some in bad condition. if you follow the stream towards newton there will be a cool underground tunnel . and if you jump the fence and climb the hill that the tunnel follows into your see some interesting areas. it is quote steep trough :)

    Good to see you out making more videos again. These old bridges would obviously last even longer, if nature wasn't allowed to take over and get into the brickwork. I can't believe they dug the buried Newton road bridge out. At least they did something right, so we can all see and enjoy it.

    • @MiddyExplores

    Fantastic mate, great video, I needed cheering up as FB have disabled my page, so no postings from me for the time being. They haven't given a reason, just a message telling me I can't use it!!! I've seen the relic @32:20 it is an old signal post, I saw it when I was down there last spring. I do hope the bridge on Lutterworth Road(bridge 430) doesn't get demolished as I have every intention of paying it a visit fairly soon.

      @@MiddyExplores Same applied to the canals when industry changed and towns and cities were getting bigger by the decades. People would move for a better way of life. Motorways etc were developing rapidly so people took to buying vehicles and less passengers taking to the rails. The GCR could of been in good use as relief roads probably in the last 40 years. Now I think it's to late and towns and cities are swarming with vehicles.

    • @MiddyExplores
      @MiddyExplores  Рік тому +1

      @@greywebs1944 totally agree but the answer wasn't to rip them up and make people rich off the scrap etc. These lines should have been mothballed or used for freight until such time (now) that they were needed. We were handed a very thorough and usable railway network from the Victorians that with some tweaks would have been so usable. The minister's who ordered the destruction were only interested in building roads and selling cars. No thought was given to the future unfortunately.
