Hope you get something affordable for US home use b4 my old frig conks out. I guess the Coolar would have to be stored outside so venting the heat wouldn't turn the house into a slow cooker? Still under shade would probably be good if the solar part could be extended beyond that. I'm thinking covered porch.

A better question would be to see Q versus delta T curves. There's plenty of things that can get down to insanely cold temps (e.g. Peltier junctions) but they can only move 1W of heat or less, so they're only useful to e.g. cool a CMOS sensor. A practical fridge on the other hand needs to be able to move 100W or more of heat to prevent spoilage.

What temperatures can it cool to? And does it work equally well on hot and cold as well as dry and humid climates? Evaporation cooling usually struggles with high heat and humidity. Also, how do you control the cooling temp range? Awesome idea.

The only downside I see to this is that you have to use live steam to dry the silica. Which means installation in any developed country HAS to be done by a certified boiler operator ($$$), even if it's just to tighten two compression fittings together. So...maybe relax the "no electrical power consumption" constraint just a little and allow for the two silica streams to be transported between two otherwise sealed units. Then anyone can do the install, significantly driving down ownership cost.

Absorption cooling is not new, some refrigerators use natural gas for heat source and ammonia as the refrigerant. As you know, industry uses this method too in co-generator and waste heat transfer. Who is going to leave a refrigerator out in the sun? And if you mount the panel far away from the refrigerator you are going to have high heat losses. I realize this is a bit critical, but electricity is efficient and more practical combined with a solar panel then this method.
