I always remember this film for this scene. Great scene. Earlier I was talking to my friend Pat who had a bowl cancer threat a few years ago about my Mrs who has had a tumour removed and has just come home after spending a month in Hospital. Dad died just before Christmas after going into Hospital at the beginning of November, so you could say that I've spent a lot of time around Doctors and surgeon's. I told Pat that I've noticed that any like to say thier piece and don't like being interrupted or questioned (unless they ask the question "Any questions?"), she replied "Yeah, that think they're God at times". That made me immediately think of this scene after all these years and so I'm here. I've been very humbled by what I've witnessed these last few months, so I can't imagine one ever thinking of themself as a God but I will tell you this; When things got close and I was waiting for those 12/13 hours when she was in theatre, I was praying like nobody's business and if that surgeon had asked me for anything, I would have given it to him. I'm a spiritual person but if he had asked for my soul in return for her life I would have given it. I think he knew after I saw him recently. Or maybe he gets that a lot. I really don't know. So apart from the great performance by Alec Baldwin, I wonder if there's more to just the performance. Do they really feel that way? and is that why they come across as arrogant? or are they just so busy with very important work to do that they haven't got time to explain but just let them do thier thing because they know what their doing? I came here all these years later because my mother just got done with surgery and I was highly stressed an sort of an emotional wreck. I thought to myself too that this scene is based on reality. The level of knowledge and skill they have to have is mind blowing. They literally hold our most precious loved ones lives in their hands.

I like it but I don't understand why he was almost whispering. He was really intense but I felt maybe if he could have raised his voice a bit to show just how irritating he found someone judging his profession it could have created an over shadow of what happens later in the movie and creates a more sinister character for Dr, Jed. I see it as a good scene but it has so much potential to be a movie monologue that holds a place in cinema history.

He's not wrong, better off preying to the doctor/surgeon than a god/God. Doctors actually exist and actually save the lives of loved ones, not imaginary friends.
