THIS CLIP
Rainer Hersch, 'the funniest conductor alive' with his Orkestra, live on UK prime time TV in 2000. Rainer and team play the 'Ode to Joy' theme from Beethoven's 9th Symphony (The 'Choral') op.125 in D Minor. The notes they are playing appear in this form in the original score but were not, of course, intended to be played on a children's toy. The Stylophone en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stylophone was manufactured by Dubreq, and first went on sale in 1968. It was relaunched with a digital copy, the Dubreq Stylophone S-1 in 2007. Subsequently other models were added, including the Dubreq Stylphone Gen X-1 and the Dubreq Stylophone Gen R-8. The Stylphones Rainer and his Orkestra are using are 'original instruments', which had been collected by Rainer and dated from the 1970s.
This is one of the Rainer Hersch Orkestra's first TV appearances. Originally seven instruments, it is now composed of violins, violas, cellos, double bass, clarinet, French horn, piano and percussion. They play live and tour, particularly in the UK and Germany. Together, they create the funniest classical music on the web. Check them out on UA-cam and at www.rainerhersch.com/orkestra. Please subscribe to this channel and spread the word. THANKS!

Great hair, that Mr Hersch...
Yeah. AND sideburns. Still got most of it. Well, probably 80%
@@RainerHerschUA-camIn a box??
I've heard of many odd ball instruments, but this is the first I've heard of a stylophone.
Plot twist: It‘s actually made out of styrofoam
I got one as a Christmas present a while back and now have reason to pick it up again lol
It's pretty popular these days, look some new stylophone artists on youtbue :)
It's cool, isn't it?
Haha. Never looked inside. You know, you may be right.
This proves that great music remains great music regardless of what it' s played on. Love the brilliant Rainer Hersch!
If the Stylophone is good enough for David Bowie and Rainer Hersch, it's more than good enough for me!
Yup. Bowie used and a few others including (apparently) John Lennon, in rehearsal, and Kraftwerk.
Dont forget Dr Dre used it 👍
I love these people
Thanks for watching.
Something i didn't know i needed, an entire stylophone orchestra.
Yeah. Forget the Berlin Philharmonic, this is the way forward.
I just bought a Stylophone after seeing one on the Beatles Get Back documentary. So far I can play Happy Birthday reasonably reliably...
But after watching this video, I am inspired. I vow to practice for 8 minutes a week instead of 7 minutes.
PS They are available on Amazon for $29.95. Of course Amazon will sell you one...
It just goes to show: great music will survive any attack you can throw at it...
Do you know what? I couldn't agree more. Like the 'Lovers Concerto' sung by the Toys (google it if you don't know it. Based on Bach. the Bach is still there.
@@RainerHerschUA-cam Yeah, you're right, menuet, if I'm not mistaken...
Ah yes, THANK YOU. Another completely unexpectedly enjoyable youtube channel to find and indulge in, thanks in huge part to the very entertaining conductor. A truly unique comedian too, how refreshing, big thumbs up!
Wow, thank you!
This clip is really 20 years old? Thanks for dusting off this gem and sharing it with us!
Bravissimo Maestro Hersch... The Berliner Philharmonie calls like no other... Oh no it's that man Hersch... We will pardon him with that surname.. Bring home the Stylophone Band. Thanks Rainer You and Jacob Collier would make an awesome twosome.
Yeah! Let’s do it.
Crescendo!
Aaaabsolutely. Haha.
That was stylin'!
Glad you liked.
TwoSetViolin reacted to your wine gurgling opera, Mr. Hersch! You're amazing!
That's great. Maybe we will do a tour together one day. They prob need a conductor, right?
Hi! May I ask for help to find that video? I have just found out about TwoSetViolin and would love to see it.
Brilliant, please say you still have them...
I the loft. I think about half of them still work.
Its the pianist crescendo on one note🤣🤣🤣
That was delightful Rainer. Your obvious youth is rather delightful too brother! Cheers!!
Thanks. Just as young. Actually, I think I am going backwards.
I used to have one of those XD - hours of hideously sounding fun (Edit: I received it as a Christmas gift around aged 9, and I am now 53 - it's still here somewhere :-D)
Sounds great. Now's the time to hunt it down. You can play along.
My Stylophone still works!!
Priceless.......
Very glad you liked it.
😃 that's what we like....good old fashioned comedic annoyance
Amazing wow
Thanks a lot 😊
I'll tell you what I want - that stylophone
You can still buy them. But they are not the steam-driven ones of the 70s.
cool! I hope it doesn't tune on a small aeroplane 😂😂😂
Erm, yes. Unfortunately, you have to buy that too. Never get it in tune otherwise :-)
Krebasanem
Great
I love how he pronounces "Freude schöner Götterfunken" (I'm German)
Danke schön!
Einfach göttlich😂
Thank you for this magnificent spit of joy in the day of my wife and I.
Glad you enjoyed it
Great!!!! That was very interesting.....
Glad you enjoyed it!
Awesome.
Thanks.
So with this instrument we can save ourselves
from a bear attack?
😂
Nice
Sounds like Rolf Harris doing the TV Advert. You're a brave person putting that on
He was a disgrace. Sorry for his victims. Those that thought of him as the friendly guy from the TV of their childhood are also victims of a sort.
Hahahaha.....amazing! Beethoven would have said:"Hey....let me try this!" Really....!
We like to think so!
If you have 5 working ones!! Then I must have the other 5 working ones including a 350S!!
すきです!
ビデオを見てくれてありがとう。
Спасибо! Всегда оригинально и весело! Выдумщик!
Большое спасибо. Спасибо за просмотр.
epic :D
Cheers. Thanks for watching
This is absolutely brilliant! However it did make my ears bleed! 😂😅🙉
More pain, more gain.
ABSALUTELY RAINER!!! 😂⭐️😂
Wow! What programme was this?
I wanna really, really, really wanna zigazig ah
My partner had one & decided to give it away as a x-mas present to someone I know extremely well about 6 years ago or nearly I wonder if not only do they have e it ( I very much doubt it) & would it still work! 😒😕
That defenitively was an Ode enjoying a spark of god ;-)
Yes it was!
Burloni🤣🤣🤣
Jigglypuff would be honored to hym along
5 of the only stilofones in brittan nowadays sold as a card
Rolf Harris used to advertise those. Was that his voice?
I believe it was. They might have modified the soundtrack so as not to make it obvious.
How old is this
2000. London.
Shortly after the invention of batteries and shortly before the discovery of ear plugs.
O Freunde, nicht diese Töne! 😏
Aber natürlich.
1:52
Is this the Frankenstein version of a xylophone ? Still, it was a stylish performance.
Sort of a poor man's ondes-martinot.
Now, that is exotic.
I think that my ears are bleeding now.
And I thought Otamatones were bad.
Astonishing. Take the crumbiest instruments possible, add decent musicians and it's almost Beethoven.
Thanks. Actually, we agree. We hope this is fun but, actually, the music still survives. Amazing.
Great fun and Beethoven is indestructible. Thanks.
@@RainerHerschUA-cam YESSSS! the song remains the same ... (led zep citation) or you can edit, cripple or re-edit a piece of music for fun, but you can never cancel the first original draft!
