Woodturning - A PEPSI Can

- Resinturning a Pepsi can from epoxy resin with a 3D printed hidden Back to the Future diorama.
After woodturning, watch me cut the resin Pepsi can in half in order to complete the project. I've designed a few of the 3D printed pieces in FreeCAD and the rest were obtained free (see links below).
If you want awesome and complex art projects, which may involve some wood and/or resin, are willing to suffer the occasional "dad" joke, then you've come to the right place!

Question of the Week: Which project did you prefer - this Pepsi can or the Coke can? Let me know why!
Coke . It was all your own work and it tastes better x
@@Tinatortoise I cannot vouch for the taste difference, but the Coke project for me contained more unique aspects. Thanks for your feedback Tina! All the best. Ray
@@Tinatortoise Hi Tina. I couldn't figure out a decent way of getting the logo chopped out of wood. Then decided to 3d print everything else. I'd still like to try and make clay models for the diorama in future projects and not totally rely on 3d printing. Thanks for your input! Take care. Ray
@@RayWhitbyCreations I have to add, I didn't realise one of the Ps had the Pepsi logo in it until you made your can x
Ray - As a bona fide member of the local Magical Mystery Union, we recently voted to answer your question - the vote was split 50-50. Ba duh dum.
I was thinking you could try a surface layer of sculpting epoxy (Milliput or similar) or even try it 100%. Or get better at the Ender. We do appreciate both projects👍 Thanks for sharing🙏 Take care. -Mike😷
Ray that is modern art at its best. Amazing idea .your eye for the small details and your patient makes you a great artist.
Thanks so much for you encouragement Ahron. Really appreciate your thoughts. Take my friend. Ray
Back to the future!
Brilliant as always, Ray!
Well done Dynsdale! Thanks for your feedback too. Much appreciated. Ray
Interesting. Thank you for sharing. Have a great day and stay safe.
Thank you for watching and commenting Glen!
Love these projects you have done . The coke can and Pepsi can . Great work .
Thanks so much Jose' Luis!
Nice project Ray.
Thanks so much Ken!
Love that peepseye can!
Thanks Leonardo!
Okay love that you did something like this. Great work.
Thanks Jen. Appreciate your feedback. I'm excited to work on this series, though I fear that some regulars may feel it's too much of a departure from previous work. I've modified the channel name and hopefully will be able to grow the viewership again. All the best. Ray
great to see every detail
Thanks so much for watching and commenting! All the best. Ray

Desain 3d yang luar biasa kawan 👍👍
Terima kasih!
@@RayWhitbyCreations sama-sama kawanku 👍
I knew it was a Back to the Future Theme when I seen the self lacing shoes.
Oh yes!
Stinkin’ AWESOME! ✌🏻🎨☕️
Thanks so much Susannah!
I think its perfect, nobody else is going to have one thats for sure.
Thanks June, really appreciate your feedback. I'm going to try a few more in this series and see what happens. All the best. Ray
Hi Ray, Superb work mate. You just keep raising the bar on your projects.
Take care Ray. Cheers, Huw
Thanks Huw, you are too kind! Appreciate you watching and commenting! Take care. Ray
Awesome idea! Not that I like sweet beverages anymore, I drink mineral water, a swedish brand called Loka, or maybe I drink tap water if it's really cold!
But this can with a hidden diorama inside is so well done, cool and cute at the same time, I loved the films, and it's fun to remember them via those cute shoes and the sign on the wall of the can!
Great Scott, this was awesome!
🤩❤❤❤❤❤👍
Thanks so much Ann, really appreciate your feedback. To be honest I'm not much of a fizzy drink drinker, except sparkling water, but was hoping that the iconic brand would be recognisable and draw in viewers. Anyway, will try a few more and see how they turn out. All the best. Ray
Awesome Ray! Funny I did think of BTTF when I saw the "sneakers" but dismissed it! I won't comment on the Dad joke either! Lol. Cheers, Dave
Cheers Dave. BTTF sneakers - maybe the 3d print wasn't too horrific after all! It was a good starting project for the series, but I sense it may take time to grow the audience for it. All the best. Ray
Nearly got it! Great project, great film x
Thanks so much for watching Tina!
So clever!
Thanks so much Mrs Whitby! x
To answer your question of the week: Both are outstanding but I like the colours of the Pepsi can. Second question: “What could go wrong?” Ray, you are a very clever and patient man with a sense of humour similar to myself. And I should have known you are working through 1 Corinthians 33 with your other projects 🌞
Thanks Ray, always appreciate your feedback. I still feel I have a long way to go in developing patience! Take care. Ray
Hi Ray, personally I loved the Coca Cola can, the Pepsi can is resin and 3d, I love wood. Loved the dad joke about the magicians, 50/50. Thanks for sharing another great project.
Hi Jim. I understand about the wood. Alas I'm in a bind. I'm not getting great traction with wood-based videos (too many amazing creators out there that are setting the UA-cam algorithm alight) and I couldn't figure out how to cut the Pepsi logo from wood. I think I've hit my current limits with wood creations, though will not fully abandon them. Always appreciate your feedback! Take care. Ray
I'm really enjoying your vids, man. I've always wondered how these were done.
Glad you like them Charles!
your very creative and you have skills very well done 👏 good job you always do a fine job keep it up .
Thank you so much 😀
Hi Ray, wow, anothere Ray-tanstic project. You make me both astonished as very happy watching your coverage! To be complete honest with you, I didn't guess it, overwhelmed by your attentiona and work you've put into it. Wonderfully done! by the way, I've responded to your email, just checking that it not again ends up in your junk-folder.
Take care, warm regards,
__Frank
Hi Frank. Thanks for your feedback! It was a fun project to work on, albeit involving no wood involved. Now I have to decide whether to try the next in this series or go back to something wood-based. Will pick up your email soon; thanks for letting me know. All the best. Ray
Totally beautiful, Ray. I still dont like Coke... or Pepsi... I mainly like Mountain Dew! My father died in the Cola-Wars, ya know. :-)
Hi Summer Storm. Appreciate your feedback. I guess the subject matter is not going to work for everyone, but hopefully they'll appreciate the methodology! All the best. Ray
The skateboard reminds me of back to the future. I may be wrong or old. 😂
Spot on Jen!!!
For printing small parts, check 3d resin printers.
Hi Matic. Alas resin printers are a little too expensive for me at the moment. If the channel would perform a little stronger I can save for one. I really like the finish on resin 3d printed miniatures. All the best. Ray
Once I saw the hover board , back to the future
Spot on Casey!
Back to the future
Sport on!
Absolutely brilliant, Ray. Except that, as I am a COKE drinker, my wife was slightly aghast at my watching this. It may take me a day or two to get over it!! 😃😃😃🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦👍👍👍
Thanks Gord. I apologise for any inconvenience caused by viewing of the "other" cola beverage! You might wish to watch the next hidden diorama from behind the sofa! Take care. Ray
That’s great!
With regards the 3D printing, have you considered a resin printer as from what I’ve seen these seem to give better results when printing thinks like miniature figures etc. Note: I’ve no experience of either, just from what I watch on UA-cam :D
Hi Richard. I've just looked up some samples from a resin 3d printer and I'm impressed with the quality of the finish. I need to raise some funds to be able to afford one! Alas things with the channel are slowing down rather than gaining momentum. I'll keep trying to develop a niche that excites viewers (and something that excites me too!). Appreciate your input on this. All the best. Ray
HEY RAY how about soda sprite drink ?
Probably would do a Mountain Dew at some point, but I've got too many projects in the to do list already
for prints this small you need a resin printer. It will give you way better results. Great work tho!
Thanks Yannick. I hope one day I will be able to get one.
A resin printer is the best thing for those small parts.
Hi Green Katana. I agree. A number of viewers have also suggested this and I should invest in one someday soon. Alas, I cannot yet afford a 4k large area resin printer, so will struggle with the FDM for a bit longer. All the best. Ray
@@RayWhitbyCreations you don't need a large 4k printer dude at least not for these type of projects i have a 2 k one and i get amazing results.
@@Im_K4tana I did see a recent YT vid comparing 2K, 4K and 8K and I was surprised as the tester how well a 2K printer can turn out if properly tuned. So perhaps I should get on with it and get a 2K resin printer. What brand do you recommend?
@@RayWhitbyCreations WOW Sorry for the long time reply well i have a anycubic mono se and it hasn't failed yet here's a figurine i did preview.redd.it/feclfpg8b6j71.jpg?width=1816&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=15c9d33d478b471cdb0804ea430746a6bacf6da5
Coke or Pepsi?
I'd say I'm split 50/50.
I'd say I was more Coke and yet I still fail the Coke vs Pepsi challenge!
Marty McFly
Bingo!
Light up Pepsi
Needed strongly lights inside I think. Thanks for watching Rosemary.
I had watched the coca cola project and I like any kind of drinks but this is back to the future With Michael j fox
Did you prefer the Red Bull project?
@@RayWhitbyCreations I watched the first soda project, then the Pepsi one and then the Red Bull one
Looks like you are enjoying the benefits of your 3D printer Ray and you keep coming up with these great ideas. This is a great project 👌
Thanks Jojo! Alas one issue is that it didn't have a great impact, so I need to decide whether to push on or go back to the original idea of using wood in the projects. All the best. Ray
I recommend one of those resin 3D printers.
Hopefully one day soon! Have you played with one?
Amazing amount of work
Many thanks Mr Zhou!
Very cool project. I thought the Nike sneaker with the colored button/heel, was where I thought, "Is he doing a Back to the Future thing?" Sure enough. Can't wait to see what you dream up next!
Thanks so much Jay! And well done for guessing so soon. I'll try a couple more in this series and see how they go, but there going to take a lot of time. All the best. Ray
That looks great Ray! Both projects are very cool but I like Pepsi better than coke !
Thanks Bruce, appreciate your feedback!
3:51 rewound and had a good luck. Boot, leg? Surfboard? Don't wear boots. Skateboard, no wheels! Hoverboard? Marty MacFly's leg?
Great logic Tina!
That is awesome Ray. Love the diorama.
It took me a while to get the joke about the magicians guild split 50/50
Thanks Jiggsy. Sometimes humour is too subtle. Not sure my kids get me all the time! Appreciate you watching. All the best. Ray
@@RayWhitbyCreations but sometimes dad jokes are just the best
3.57 a skateboarder ? hoverboard close l.o.l I should have took more notice of the video title And as a out of work magician due to Fibromyalgia I cringed at the magic circle 50 50 joke. I do like the fact that the videos I have watched you throw in the odd joke or two.thanks for posting
Thanks Michael! Really appreciate your feedback. All the best. Ray
@@RayWhitbyCreations Your welcome just continue been creative for us all to watch
Super Awesome Project….love it…great Diorama Artwork.
Thank you very much! Appreciate you watching and commenting. All the best. Ray
Out doing yourself yet again Ray! That's an amazing piece. By chance, have you been watching Nick Zammeti lately? He's a big fan the BttF movies too.
Thanks Kraigist. It's a new direction that may impact viewers expectations, hopefully not negatively. I've not seen much of Nick's work lately, though I do like his creativity. I've subscribed to around 70 channels in the woodturning area and try to keep up on a weekly basis. And I wonder why I have no time and no energy! All the best. Ray
Skate boarding figure 🤔?
Marty McFly!
Ray that is phenomenal. I didn't guess your diorama. Your projects get more and more exciting as the weeks go by. That must have taken hours of work and such patience. I love it. (Being a secret Pepsi fan!!)
Thanks so much Brenda. It was a good project to cut my teeth on and hopefully can spend time refining some techniques for upcoming projects in this series. All the best. Ray
@3:48 Back to the future
Correct! Thanks for watching!
8:00 terrible joke 🤔
Only the worst!
Cool, love it. Thanks
Glad you like it Hantie! All the best. Ray
Love your videos, so cool!
