"We blasted it with bass to aid in the finishing process!" >name whiskey after opening track of the album notorious for having the bass squashed in the mix :p
The Conor McGreggor Proper 12 review brought me to this channel and I'm happy that it did. These reviews are very well done and fair. Now if I could only get the $24.99 back for buying that whiskey to get Blackened.
Thanks Tyrone. Australia is a whiskey ecosystem I haven't explored yet. I've had a few recommendations, but you probably know more about them than I do!
Haha well the truth is I’m only 18 and have yet to really try many whiskeys and bourbons but maybe I’ll find a good one to enjoy because at the moment it’s all too strong :,(
You should pickup some Waterview there in AUS. Maybe you can still find a bottle of the stuff that had music blasted at it too (classic 80s rock bands.). Yes, the Aussies did it first!
So true. The first time I watched one of your videos, I didn't really know what to think. You could have easily gotten boring. But now I watch quite a few of your videos. It's hard to make solo videos. Talking to a camera alone is tough stuff, but you do it well. You've gotten a lot better at it too. ;)
Speaking completely bluntly I've been feeling really comfortable lately. I'm sure it's coming across in the videos too. The spike to subscribers lately has really motivated me at a time when I needed a bit more motivation
Saw the Proper 12 review and loved how you thought to explain to those, like me, who are new to these type of reviews. I never knew whiskey reviewing could be so intriguing. Subscribed.

I'm also a huge Metallica fan, still playing a lot of Metallica when I get a chance. Hopefully I can taste their whiskey someday, unfortunately it is still not available in South Africa.
Hmm, don't know if 'gulpable' is a positive descriptor of a whiskey in my book, lol. And the whole blasting the barrels with Metallica is super gimmicky too. I'd rather have a more complex, non-gulpable whiskey, while I listened to some really good music, but that's just me. You did a really thorough and comprehensive job on your part of this review though. I really feel like I would know exactly what I was getting, and I appreciate the heck out of that!

I can see that! Buy "The Ecstasy of Gold", this "Whisky in the Jar" "All Within My Hands" made by "The Four Horseman" you all know. This "Sweet Amber" is a great "Fixxxer" for any "Damage Case". "The Wait" was worth it, I have "No Remorse". "The More I See" now, "It's Electric" and in the finish "The Memory Remains" of this whiskey, but that in "The Eye of the Beholder". Act fast and be "The Hero of the Day" because it is released in small batches, "Sad But True". I will take it "Wherever I may Roam" because "Nothing Else Matters". 😂

I am normally a Kettle over ice with lime drinker. I have recently decided to develop a taste for whiskey and bourbon. I have watched several videos and subscribed to yours. Keep at it Whiskey Dic, I feel like whiskey is in the process of blowing up again. Hope your channel stays out there and gets them subs! Also would you recommend Jameson Caskmates Stout for someone starting their journey into whisk(e)y?
I love these videos. And I hate whiskey lol. Watching you talk about all these flavors in these whiskeys made me want to give it another try. Went out to the local liquor store looking for four Rose's and couldn't find it. Then I saw makers mark but it was like 45 dollars which was a bit steep. Ended up on this E&J Apple flavored brandy cuz it was cheap. It wasn't the worst stuff in the world but I've had better. Anyway just wanted to leave this comment to let ya know what you're doing is awesome and u got the personality to draw someone who doesn't even like whiskey into your videos. Good shit man.
Try Wild Turkey 101 , great bourbon at a lower price point. But yea in whiskey you get what you pay for. A lot of it is time in barrel or use of finishing casks that drive price and quality up.
There is a Cognac which is sailed around the world for a year, the idea being the sloshing spirit takes on more if the wood and also picks up a touch of the "sea air". There is now a champagne that spends a year in the Gaelic Sea after bottling.
Hi Bill, thanks a lot !. You said something like "MGP it is not (thankfully)".Now I've had lots of products sourced by Midwest grain products and they seem perfectly good, specialy Rye. So, what's wrong with MGP?
Mostly the bad wrap that they get. When I was editing the video I found myself wishing I had phrased that differently. When I review whiskies that are MGP sourced, they tend to get a lot of flack in the comments as well. (It's part of the reason I did my video on MGP a couple months ago).
That was a unique uncorking, sounded like the frigging AFLAC duck. I just ordered two bottles. Can't wait for the FedEx dude to roll up in 3-5 business days!
Do you have videos about the basic stuff? Like what makes bourbon and scotch different and how aged should a whiskey typically be before it's considered aged enough.
I do have some videos like that but probably not enough. I have two videos on what bourbon and scotch are and general info half written but maybe I'll make them more of a priority. Thanks for the idea!
ADF Audio it wasn’t a nod to cliff. It was a dumbass decision made by lars. This is actually what happened. Lars told the producer “Try turning the bass down to where you can barely audibly hear it”. After the album was finished and the band listened to it, Lars asked: “Is there any bass on the album?” I’m not fucking kidding. Not a tribute
Awesome reviews. Proper 12 brought me to your channel lol. Recommend me your top whiskeys in the $30-50 range and one that I should ball out for. Please hehe.
Great review again Bill! I like your title animations. Have you thought about including an animated logo to the beginning of your videos as a title screen? I think that would look great!
Yup! I considered it but my analytics show me that people want to dive right into the content. I dont blame them, we are all busy :) I used to have intros but found that folks dropped off during them
@Ridogg81 its not bad, but its not great. Tastes really good with coke. for the price (i paid $25) I would buy it again. I actually prefer this with coke over jack. I think they're next run will be the one to look out for, it tastes really young
Excellent stuff! As a Metallica fan, I'm also glad this whiskey is worth the purchase! However, I cannot find it for the price you mentioned, on their site it says $70 a bottle. Would you still recomend it at that price?

Metallica,..... Never heard of this band before. Do they sing the catchy song Mmm Bop? Could you please do a review on Old Grandad. Hi Bill , what is happening with the subwoofer is a transmission of very low frequencies ( think Bag End sub`s ) < 10 Hertz. Any frequency < 10 Hz causes massive molecular disturbance . What you are getting into is called Psychoacoustics , that is the science of sound and the affects of sound at the molecular level : Wiki Link : en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psychoacoustics So the next time you are rattling your home theater , if you have a deep frequency sub < 18 Hz , your home is changing , but you might never know it !! Also , for personal reference , do not sit in front of a subwoofer that is capable of < 6 Hz , paristalsis will take place !! Link > en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peristalsis Take care , thanks for the video , I just love science !! Later , Gary
That's awesome info Gary! Thanks for clarifying! I read a little about the molecular disturbance but didnt know enough about it to talk about it with authority.
I like the consistencies of your videos, BUT I have just one pick to bone with this one. If you watch "My Bourbon Journey's" Video on this product, Dave Pickerell states repeatedly that the vibration of the music is not intended or result in accelerated aging, but to enhanse the flavor. He states that it draws deep caramel flavors from under the char layer of the barrel staves. I am only pointing this out because Dave Pickerell makes such a point of this.
So glad it's better than McGregor's shit - saw your review on that too. Huge Metallica fan myself, will definitely purchase a bottle, seems to have the things I like in a whiskey, given your description.
To me this tasted like a blend of Wild Turkey 101 and some MGP rye. Not bad, we're probably paying an extra 10 bucks for the gimmick, if they were blending Maker's and Whistlepig it would be more expensive unless they bought some young barrels or off-barrels. Oh and I read on Punch that Whistlepig gets their starter from MGP... most rye is coming from there, not a bad thing they make a good product for the price
The Whiskey Dic I live in Alberta Canada, hoping it shows up here. Just started drinking whiskey a few months ago at the age of 55. My wife thinks I'm crazy, because I'm bought 35 bottles so far. I'm very thankful for UA-cam and that a newbie like me can learn fairly quick
What is your definition of "craft whiskey"? Somehow mixing whiskey from two major distilleries (Maker's Mark and Whistlepig) doesn't meet my idea of craft.
Good point and honestly I've been asking myself that question too... in general it's just new brands but at some point I'll define it to myself a bit more solidly
Alright, the most important question... Favorite Metallica Song. Go!
Fade to Black
I'm going to go Battery. That song will get me freakin' pumped no matter what's going on. I usually skip the first 30 seconds or so though.
Eye of the Beholder. Hon. mention to Whisky in the Jar for purposes of this thread (although I like Thin Lizzy version better)
No leaf clover - S&M album
Ooo good one!
Please warn me if any batches used St. Anger so I can avoid them.
Hah! I almost made a similar comment :)
Bwahahaha
Paul Sousa those will probably be the best blended because of the snare
With the drop c tuning and how heavy it was, probably wouldn’t be bad. Maybe even the wonky snare would help lol
The snare!
"We blasted it with bass to aid in the finishing process!"

Sad but true...
No Justice for Jason. LOL
its called Blackened becouse they even have Blackened records also its got best Intro for metal song
They missed the chance to put the whiskey in a Jar-O!
I figure that was too expected. Metallic - "In the Jar-o"

Hah!
That's why I always try to watch a review before spending my money. Even if my opinion differs, at least I have a starting point that way.
That's what you get for buying a whiskey for the brand name.
Hmm, interesting. Brings into light their old nickname, "Alcohollica"!
Blackened. My favorite song by them. Not even a whiskey drinker but I’ll try just because of the name.
great tune and sadly off the last quality album they released.
TheHypernaught Hardwired is good though.
I enjoyed it
Remastered will be out November 2nd so I can't wait to listen to that.
I don't listen to Metallica, but this video was EXTREMELY interesting. Thank you for the deep analysis and the details.
I'm glad you enjoyed it!
I am so glad this is a good whiskey. Now I can go out and buy one. As we both agreed proper twelve sucked hard.
You'll enjoy this one for sure :)
Finished with bass frequencies ironically unlike the And Justice for All album in which Newstead got shafted

Thanks Tyrone. Australia is a whiskey ecosystem I haven't explored yet. I've had a few recommendations, but you probably know more about them than I do!

When I first saw the title of this video. I was tempted to run around the house yelling IT'S HERE! IT'S HERE! I've been waiting for this!
Hah! I've been so excited too! This was one of my favorite reviews and I spent like 4 hours editing the video
Bass helps Whiskey to become Whiskey, If Cliff was alive, this would be one of the most frequently produced whiskeys =P
Hope it comes to Europe soon so it can colour my world blackened

Any frequency < 10 Hz causes massive molecular disturbance . What you are getting into is called Psychoacoustics , that is the science of sound and the affects of sound at the molecular level : Wiki Link :
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psychoacoustics
So the next time you are rattling your home theater , if you have a deep frequency sub < 18 Hz , your home is changing , but you might never know it !!
Also , for personal reference , do not sit in front of a subwoofer that is capable of < 6 Hz , paristalsis will take place !! Link >
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peristalsis
Take care , thanks for the video , I just love science !! Later , Gary
That's awesome info Gary! Thanks for clarifying! I read a little about the molecular disturbance but didnt know enough about it to talk about it with authority.
Hi Bill , I am happy to help :) Take care , and thank you for your awesome videos !! Gary
How do you know the batch of your particular bottle
There is a black label at the top. You wont miss it!
I'm new to this channel.. What's your favorite overall whiskey and then what's your favorite bargain whiskey(we'll say $20 and under)?
I honestly have no favorite. I drink so many different kinds I break it up by year. Last year it was four Rose's small batch
$20 and under... you're not going to find much in that range.
I said the same thing. I said it's not for aging, it's for finishing.
So glad it's better than McGregor's shit - saw your review on that too. Huge Metallica fan myself, will definitely purchase a bottle, seems to have the things I like in a whiskey, given your description.
Could you please check out Bains Cape Mountain Whisky. It's a pretty good whisky from my home country of South Africa.
Aha just did a little more research, MGP rye is only iin some of the Whistlepig blends not all , my bad. Still , thats what I tasted in the Blackened
I agree though. I'd be shocked if MM and WP aren't in here
Thanks for the great videos and being so honest
No other way to be :)
Awesome! Wives will always think we are crazy for one reason or another. May as well enjoy it!
4:14 No Whiskey in the Jar.
What is your definition of "craft whiskey"? Somehow mixing whiskey from two major distilleries (Maker's Mark and Whistlepig) doesn't meet my idea of craft.
Good point and honestly I've been asking myself that question too... in general it's just new brands but at some point I'll define it to myself a bit more solidly
an ultrasonic bath would be ideal as that's whats the going thing for steeping flavors in vapes
10k views! Great review, bud.
Thanks Nolan!
Apparently Jason contributed some flavours to this but you can't taste them because of the band mixing.
Four horseman- easily my favorite Metallica song-
