    Great video Tim, my qth suffers with s7-9 most of the day, and I was at a point of giving up,and after watching your video, I took the plunge,dug out my tent! And headed out to a campsite, an hours drive away, using a tri mag mounted on car, and Ampro 20 meter antennae, tranny in tent, I discovered just what I had been missing, it was an awakening! First copy was to Iceland,and then dozens of contacts around Europe, and following morning Australia.
    As you said, if you suffer from noise on the bands, get yourself out n about.
    So good, iv even booked up my next camping trip in a few weeks time!
    Cheers Tim

    Thanks Tim I bought a slide winder coil and Mil whip from M1ECC after watching your last video, I tried it with my ic-705 with a ground spike from my super antenna the other day and it was very impressive :)

    Pure pleasure Tim, I agree!!👍 Usually great view (static mobile) on surrounding hills, chasing DX all over globe & minimal "footprint"...all what left is filled LOGbook and smile of operator /M.
    Stay well! S51X

    Super Tim. Not mobile here but i would get outside the ground floor flat with your set up. Only 10 watts at the moment as am new Foundation licencee aged 68 lol. Have the Xiegu G90 which, so far. has worked miracles from my front room with a Wonderloop into Europe. 73s from M7CUN Bristol.

    Awesome Tim! I don't think you can say it often enough, CALL CQ!!!!! the results are so often pleasantly rewarding. the other old adage which is equally true is if you can hear em you can work em! 73, Tom.

    Good one Tim,.. Works a treat, I will be ordering another, for A9 I left my coil in LZ, I did see some corrosion on the male threaded side, left it out for a few days set up with my 1979. Worked US from LZ, grey line, while portable, It always works well, all the best, enjoy yr radio. 😊

    I am enjoying this series of videos, Tim. I hope it inspires others to try a similar setup. A few years ago I mounted a Buddipole coil with a 40" whip on the roof of my car. I was very doubtful it would work and I was astounded to make contacts throughout the U.S. and into eastern Europe on 20M (at the end of the solar cycle nonetheless). With only a 40" steel whip, it is a setup that can be used by a passenger while driving. (I think the level of distraction makes it too dangerous for the driver to operate.)

    Cheers Tim, always look forward to your videos, good old normal operating. I'm one of those folks who live in a terrible area and struggle in my valley bottom position so most of my operations are mobile, parked on a hill in Yorkshire somewhere. As you say, it's surprising what you can hear and who you can get back to once all the noise it out the way even on relatively low power. All the best, M7BXR

    Nice one Tim. Great demonstration to others that you can work DX with a very modest setup. If the propagation is there then you are 90% of the way to making the contact.

    Very encouraging and I’m glad it works so well for you. I struggle with high noise floor and limited space for HF antennas at my QTH. It can be quite demoralising! I would be interested to see how you get on with the telescopic whip too, both with/without the slidewinder coil (e.g. for higher bands). It would be interesting also to see how successful the spike ground mount is and if radials help or not. Lots of fun stuff to play with! Cheers and Tim and 73’s

      I use a lifepo4 22ah in the passenger footwell Andy and yes just as good (I suspect given it’s extra length it beats the Ampro a little bit).

  • @oldpreach

    Great job, as usual. I wonder how that whip would do against the 17 foot MFJ-1979 Whip.

    • @timg5tm941
      @timg5tm941  2 роки тому

      Good point. I suspect the fact that the whip can be adjusted to be a resonant 1/4 wave from 20-4m would mean it may have a SLIGHT advantage over using the coil. However, it is heavy to put on the car much more than 3m fully extended, so that is where the Chameleon wins. 73

    Hi Tim. Will the coil work and match with any size of whip?

    • @timg5tm941
      @timg5tm941  2 роки тому

      Yes, within reason. I think a 6-7 ft whip should tune 40-10

    New to my slidewinder Where on my coil would I put the slider for 10m
    Any suggestions please

    • @timg5tm941
      @timg5tm941  Рік тому +1

      Hi Liam - if you are using any whip greater than 8 feet long then the best you can do for 10m is to slide the collar to the very top. With my 9ft tank whip and the slidewinder I managed to get an swr of about 1.9:1 this way. Still totally usable. 73
