There are many authentic sources from where we take the incidents happened in Kerbala or those that led to or preceded the Event of Kerbala. For those who believe in 12 infallible Imamat named by Prophet saww himself (starting with Imam Ali till Imam Mehdi as), the narrations given by or attested by Imam Zain al Abideen as are the strongest because he has the God given knowledge and is a Hadi appointed by Allah, not chosen or elected by people. He lived and wept all his 35 years of life remembering and narrating how his father (Imam Hussain) got martyred along with other relatives and Ansaar in Kerbala. Then, Imam Hussain confided different incidents with his sister, Zainab bint e Ali as who (after being released from 2 years of harsh imprisonment by yazid) arranged majalis to commemorate her brother’s sacrifice and told details among women. After the arrest and during the journey to Kufa aur Shaam, she single-handedly dealt with other women, children of the family and addressed the people in especially decorated bazaars and introduced who this caravan was. Then, yazid also appointed people to write down details of the events to be sent to him. Then, people in yazid’s army narrated incidents to yazid how brutally they killed Aal e Rasool saww with teer, naiza, pelted stones, or even threw hot sand over their injured bodies to claim rewards from yazid. Then, when Mukhtar Saqafi stood up against this tyranny to avenge Imam Hussain’s killing, he captured the perpetrators, asked them what role they had in killing the family members of the Prophet saww and how they killed them and what happened when they killed each of Hussaini ansaar. After listening to the confessions, Mukhtar punished them. Mukhtar got it all in writing and then he got these details double checked with Imam Zain al Abideen as in Madina. No one source could give all details of both sides and at various occasions, thus the multitude of sources and narrators.
