Hood River Fly In (sorta) Part 2 | Smoke didn't Stop Us From Going

Kim and I both had planned to go to the 2024 Fly-In at Hood river. The wildfires in the area had other plans. We divided to drive instead of Flying. It was nice hot having to set up a tent and have a real bed, but at the cost of a 8 hour round trip drive. The smoke did take the life as Stearman collided with a ridge on Friday. Our condolences to who's families were affected.

Love the video! One of my favorite quotes about pilot judgement... "superior pilots, use their superior judgement, to avoid demonstrating their superior skill" turning back and deciding to drive isn't always the fun choice but its a great example of good decision making.

Aviation is a very unforgiving venture even to the smallest errors of judgment. Disappointment is a hard dish to serve. Yet with the correct approach people will appreciate you looking after their best interests.
