i am sorry but I do not understand this "biological" perspective. The human race I faaaaaar from being extinct, it is ridiculous to say that it is our duty to reproduce because otherwise the human race is going to end. Makes no sense.
Reproducing is not selfless. You should have kids because you want them; because you would love to be a parent and take care of a little human. Let's be honest, a lot of people have kids, because they a scared of not leaving something behind. They want a legacy. they want to pass on their genes. How is that selfless? (honestly seems more selfish than selfless to me)
if you truly want to be selfless, go out and adopt a kid. There are so so many kids out there without a loving home, giving them love and a future is true selflessness.
And how is being childfree selfish? People without kids have a lot of time, which is often dedicated to their jobs. For example scientists are often childfree. These people also contribute greatly to our society by investing their energy into their jobs. they also pay more taxes usually (at least in my country). A lot of people working with abandoned children, NGOs or social service have no kids on their own. It is very disrespectful (and narrow minded) to say that only reproducing as of value for society.
Why do we have to make a competition out of it? People who raise great children do good for society, and people without children who dedicate their time to other causes are good and important for society.

I see your point! My only response would be that for some, they see reproducing as a duty to the proliferation and continuation of humankind. In fact, some may see it as a selfless act, as many lack the resources required but still choose to from this sense of cultural or biological "duty".
I agree with your adoption argument, in that it is more "selfless", and continuing legacy can, in this sense, be more selfish. I think, when compared to animals (who mindlessly reproduce as a result of impetus) humans choosing not to have children after doing so for thousands of years throughout struggle, wars, famine etc. can seem a bit more selfish to some.

      @@boroughsoundtv thanks for your response.
Yes is see where that comes from. Honestly, i hope i am a child made from love and not from duty haha This is also why i think it is problematic to have kids bc you think it is your „duty“. Having children is almost a lifelong commitment, i think you can only be a good parent if you truly love being a parent (maybe i am wrong here who knows).
In any case it is a deeply personal choice. What i do not understand is the hate and disrespect towards childless people. I only ever experienced people with kids shaming people (mostly women!!!) without kids. A person who is truly happpy with their own life and their own life choices, would not have the need to shame someone who does things differently. Why would you shame people for how they are living their life, if it does no harm to you? I will never understand that.
Everybody is entiteled to their own opinion and lifechoices (as long as it does not harm others) so i do not understand why all that hate and resentment is there against childless people.
I go as far as to say childfree people will be more and more important for scociety bc they will have time and energy to care about other important things in scociety. Like taking care of elders since we will have more old people who need care in the future. or science and research.
