Well done on this journalism CB Team✊🏾. It is so important to get this truth out so that parents can be empowered to make informed decisions ✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾 My Heart goes out to Anneka 💔💔💔
I had a birth at a birthing centre. Was induced by the midwife using some drug that also accelerated my labour. The baby was in distress but she was forcing me to push when I was not even fully dilated. I fought her to take me to hospital and when I got there I was told I had to get an emergency C-section. If I hadn’t fought her my baby would have died. 😢
Government hospitals should be investigated too with regards to their maternity units they cause women so much trauma during birth which is why majority of us opt for private midwives or homebirths
I contacted the birthing center in 2022 ..I wanted to give birth there they said it's 15k..I was ready to pay the deposit and on my way to the bank I had a mini panic attack and turned back ..I blocked them and I gave birth at a public government hospital..I dnt regret changing my mind
Home births must be prohibited 🚫 period based on the facts that high death rates of babies, 2 unprofessional let alone not too qualified for emergencies that may arise during birth! Lastly birth at hospital the baby and the mother can be saved as they won't be need to be traveling incase of any kind of situation that mat arise😢
Many mothers and babies die in hospital too. My eldest almost died due to negligence from a nurse not checking on us nor paying any attention when i said something was wrong. My husband ran looking for help if another sister didn't come running with him we would both not have made it. The girl that was in labour next to me almost died.. actually I don't know if she made it. Machines were going off and the same nurse ignored her she had eclampsia and had fits. They had to get the baby out asap. after her husband also ran for help the nurse told her to calm down WHILE she was having fits. By the time we were released 2 days later she was still in a coma. This was at the best high risk public hospital in Cape Town. Where there are strict rules as to checking on patient. So it's not about the hospital or the midwivery you go to it's the people working there. Some are amazing some have no business doing this. Just like i cant blame the hospital for one nurse that was not in the mood to do her job that night you cant blame a whole industry for 1 or 2 bad apples
@stacey-leehattingh6957 Am looking at the fact these midwives have been reported and cartblanche been airing this for so long and still these women are carrying out home births even after their licenses have been revoked, they not jail! All those babies died senseless deaths which could have been prevented, saved when they were in hospitals! Mind you these women are not doctors! I would rather risk it with hospital than home birth, as like you saying negligence of a nurse , 1 pursue and sue that's if they have the resources, money but very unfortunate for those who can't.
@@lindarakobe6527 not arguing with your stance. But remember CB has done segments on hospitals as well that had similar situations... Should those hospitals also be closed down? Proper midwives also go for extensive training. Just like the hospital staff , take action against those committing the crimes. There are amazing midwives and nurses out there we can't punish everyone we need to do something about the rogue ones... Which is hard when the counsil does nothing but then the people that work as bad in hospital also did not get much repercussions... Just saying don't through the baby out with the bath water
I had home births in Bloemfontein and East London and had a wonderful experience both times after having an awful birth in a private hospital. If you're apprehensive and can afford it, I suggest finding a midwife who is recommended and works alongside an obstetrician in private.
😭😭😭😭this episode has truly shattered my heart. This hurts, such individuals must be arrested. Condolences to all families and thank you for this episode 😔
Midwives are supposed to be more efficient and more knowledgeable than doctors/nurses regarding the woman's body and baby. Unfortunately these ones are only money hungry.
Some people want to avoid being coerced into c-sections by doctors at hospitals. For cash-paying moms, it's cheaper than private hospitals and seems a better option better than the public sector.
This is so sad because there are INCREDIBLE birthing centres and women dedicating their lives to this profession. How do women have such a lack of care for other women and their children
This is very scary. I was induced at Kathleens mother and baby clinic. Not only that but i had severe Hyperemesis Gravidarum and the one midwife working there told me to just take a walk and ill feel better. Also told me im so ill because my body isnt accepting the pregnancy. I went to a private doctor who told me my son was measuring small and i was severely dehydrated and my ketones were very high. All was ignored at Kathleens. I still gave birth there as i did not have medical aid and was desperate to avoid the government hospital during COVID. Its scary to know that this could have been my babies fate.
Thank you for mentioning at the end that it is certain midwives who are going against the rules totally ignoring protocols & not painting a general bad picture of the midwifery side of things ⭐
My Baby girl was also deliver by katheleen back in 2011, she induced me, water was brown, but she assured us everything was fine. 12 hours in labour and when my baby was born she was blue and wasn't breathing. She was 5 days old when she passed away.
Births whether natural or C section are risky, but why go to a birthing centre if they is no Doctor on stand by like in Hospitals ? Why leave things to chance. I delivered in a hospital and when the baby was getting distressed, a Doctor was called immediately! Been in a facility with a Doctor in the immediate vacinity is always safer
With midwifery, you are supposed to have a doctor on standby. Usually we work closely with gynecologists at the hospital closest to us, and the patient is also sent for evaluation at the chosen gynie (Usually twice) before giving birth at home.
I keep seeing this every where, more often. The thing is, what if there's an emergency? C-secttion, whatever. A mid-wife can not help you. My baby died at birth 6 months ago, due to this reason. I'm pregnant again, thank Jesus Christ. I wish I could warn every pregnant women against mid-wives. Our government hospitals are excellent at maternity. I dispies midwifes
People don’t do research before embarking upon life risking tasks?😮 honestly I’d rather go to a government facility because their birthing units are safer.
With Kethleen it's all about money, she always pushed for "did you pay?". We lost our R15k over nothing. She did not call for an ambulance but told my husband and I to drive to Joburg Gen after administering these pills with my water having broken for hours.
Midwives are cheaper than private hospitals. A decent service from a registered midwife can cost roughly 15k. In private its about 25k upwards. Aftercare and routine immunizations after birth is also costly with some sessions costing anywhere between R 500 to R2000. In all honesty a State hospital works out better money-wise.
What I dont understand is these stories of shady birth centres and so on is not new its there has been many that warned people but to be mothers still use them instead of a hospital, i just dont understand how are birth centres better then a hospital with real doctors and equipment to deal with any situation. If people stop using these places they will soon not be any birth centres open and everyone would be happier. Stop home birth or whatever its meant to be and use a hospital. I hope those mothers are in a better space now.
Im not sure why someone would choose a home birth. Thee amount of complication that can occur before, during and after birth can fill up a book.... its such a bad idea im not sure why any health practitioner ciuld even suggest it.
Be strong ladies, your little angels are up there with the big man, safe☝️Always remember, u may not get the justice you deserve(failed justice system) but what goes around, comes around😊Those money hungry monsters will pay one way or the other, oneday💪
In my opinion the parents should be held accountable. They don’t have the funds to give birth in the hospital, they use the excuse that the mid wife is better than hospital. But common sense will get you far in life. Obviously the mid wife doesn’t have the knowledge or equipment compared to the hospital.
That's a bit insensitive. Mothers and babies die in hospitals all the time. The point here is for all practitioners to ensure that they follow rules. There are many successful births from homebirth.
Midwives study years to be able to practice. They are incredibly well trained. In South Africa they train first as nurses and then specialize as midwives. I practice in Netherlands, and 70%+ of our women birth at home without complications. Homebirth is also recommended by our government. Homebirths are safe, but nothing is safe when people are only after money and don't stick to their scope.

So happy I watched this. I'm currently pregnant and was going use the second birthing center, I'll definitely stick to my Dr and go to a hospital.
Please do, this is scary.

Please don't. My baby died at birth 6 months ago due to a midwifes negligence.
I'm having a home birth next month government have traumatized me enough
Can this midwife’s be criminally charged..?
Sincere condolences to the parents. RIP sweet little Angels.
Please investigate this nursing council with regard to annual fees for nurses ,
Also waiting for an ambulance, in South Africa is a joke.
I'm so sorry to the moms
South Africa has become SO UNSAFE in all spheres 😢😢 cry my beloved country
Lol we always crying these days yoh
Even in spheres that we would normally deem to be safe😢
So sad! 😞 I am so sorry!

I'm in Rustenburg, and as far as I know, Bingle Birth is now closed, THANKFULLY.
CB needs to be protected in all conners
You can trust Carte Blanche to gid, follow up and invistigate to find answers and expose the lies , Well done Team you doing a great job
Heartbreaking stories to hear😢May the widwives be held accountable for these babies deaths. And the emotional trauma on these moms and families
The way I wanted to have a home birth but now I'm terrified!
Trust me the hospital is the best
This is your sign not to do it.

If they aren't allowed to administer Oxytocin, where do they get it from?
Black market. Cytotec is also used by back door abortion places to induce abortions. It's readily available on the streets.
My question is, why do people go to such places/people and not to hospitals?

Poor Gabriella Jooste passed away on my birthday! This midwifery must adhere to the rules! It’s disappointing

RIP 💐 , my heart breaks 💔 I pray for healing and stenght. ❤
As a parent, I struggled to watch this.
So much incompetence and greed in the birth process.
Its extremely saddening. 😢
How do this midwives get hold of this drugs
This is really sad to watch
The lack of oversight is beyond infuriating and despicable!

Is it cheaper to get a midwife or use that same cash for a private hospital? Does anyone know ?

South Africa becoming such a scary country
Take ur chances in the hospital it's far better equipped to help the thise homes that are money driven.
What is the average fee the midwives charge for a home birth? That is important when you make a video about home births.
about 15k

Child birth is very dangerous its a matter of life and death we woman we are strong enduring the pain that comes with those pains😢😢😢😮

I gave birth at Kathleen and got the best service there, beter than any hospital.
But even a private hospital dr did the same to me do they can take me to c section
My niece had an infection & a midwife adviced her to just drink "slow mag". She miscarried.
Slow mag is magnesium

No, it helps with aching bones and to sleep better. I drank it through my whole pregnancy
